I found the play place to be pretty small and tight compared to others I've been to, especially considering the price. My 2.5 year old had fun, but everything felt geared to even younger toddlers/babies...and that's who was mostly there. I didn't order coffee so I can't comment on that. However, you do have to wait on the same line for coffee to check in, even with an online reservation. It was frustrating to have a set time to be there (with a 2-hr play time limit) and then wait in line for 15 minutes just to go play. read more

We came to this cafe to attend a birthday party event. At first look, the cafe appeared really nice and comfortable. The children play area is absolutely stunning with all parts of it designed with beautiful interior and decor. At floor level there are play area, climbing wall, a small market and in upper level there's make believe home, walkway to the giant slide. The children's party table is in the back. Also two restrooms including a family one. They have cute small sink and water filter for the kids too. Few sitting spots available around the play area to watch the kids. Through out the party the cafe employees assisted with handing out pizzas to the kids, organizing the cake cutting ceremony and finally wrapping up left over. They are strict with hours, so everything was wrapped up right on time. The cafe has their own hot and cold drinks, bakery goods and to go wraps. The cupcakes at the party were dry and hard. So I didn't have good impression of their food. But I'll surely recommend the play area to others. read more

Very cute cafe, my 2.5 year old had a blast! I found the open play pricing to be appropriate for 2 hours of fun. I enjoyed a delicious southwest chicken wrap and latte, while my daughter picked on a few snacks they had available for purchase. The facility was clean, a bit on the smaller side. Our visit was 12-2 on a Thursday (some schools on spring break). The first hour was VERY busy, the second hour was slower & more relaxing for the parents. It seems that they allow 20 spots for each 15-minute time interval. Considering that all children require 1 parent, most children had 2 parents, and there are some babies that aren't included as one of the 20 spots, the place can feel very crowded. I do wish the maximum capacity was lower, but I will just keep this in mind when planning my next visit and shoot for later in the day. Overall, my toddler and I both enjoyed our time! read more

Parking in complex is available. Checking in is easy. Reservations are encouraged for the two hour play limit. The space is the best for kids under six, which is advertised. The space is great - perfect for two hours. I was able to see both my kids as I sat and watched with another mom and we enjoyed lattes with paper plane coffee co. When the girls wanted a break they had great options for adults and kids, from quiches to sandwiches to grilled cheese and meal boxes from sweet n fancy emporium. This spot is very clean and the bathrooms too. There are two bathrooms so it's great for the amount of people they limit during the time slots, I had no complaints at all. Highly recommend for your next mom/dad date if you have kids under six! read more

This is a newly opened cafe/ indoor play center for kids! Came here with my friend and her 2 kids- 4 year old and 6mo old. There is a gated area for toddlers of crawling/ just walking age. The rest of the play area is a tiny town to replicate a supermarket, a kitchen, a garage, a music center, a fire department etc. Everything is brand new and clean. The rooms are filled with props and toys to stimulate creativity. There is also a small slide that goes to a ball pit and a climbing wall. Make sure to reserve a play time online because the place does get packed quickly, even on weekdays! There is an area you can sit and watch outside the play area, however if you do decide to go in you need to wear grippy socks. They have an assortment of drinks and snacks, even some baked goods from a nearby bakery in Westfield. Although I wish they had more variety for food items! read more

An absolute GEM for both kids and adults! I've been to this spot multiple times--whether it's for birthday parties, open play, or just to grab a quick coffee--and it never disappoints . The environment is always welcoming and SO CLEAN, making it a perfect place for families. ...and the staff? Incredibly friendly and accommodating every single time. They go above and beyond to make sure everyone feels at home, which makes such a difference in today's day and age. We love Small Town Play Cafe! I hosted both my daughter's birthday, and my son's birthday party here. From the moment I booked, I didn't have to worry about anything except sending out the invitations. The entire team could not have made planning these parties any easier. From the decor, to the balloons, and to the food, they took care of every single thing for me. All I had to do was show up. Aside from the birthday parties, my kids love coming here for open play, and I love it too since the coffee incredible. The team is always so helpful, and kind. BUYER BEWARE: Rules and regulations for this cafe are subject to change whenever people who work here feel like it. I realize that this does not apply to many families, but I am very upset by my experience today. I am a tired mother of two who just wanted to be able to get coffee with a friend while her children played. My three year old was in school and I was with my 8 month old baby. I did not feel comfortable having the baby play in the play space due to severe illnesses this season and older children being around and possibly playing too rough around him. I went and ordered my $10 coffee and walked towards the back to sit with my friend. I was told that I was not allowed back there without a reservation. I understand if I was trying to sneak a play aged child back there, or if I did not purchase anything, but that was not the case. I had been allowed to do this previously with another friend and her baby. Today, I was told that they must have allowed that as a courtesy. On the contrary, the last time I did this, I had asked if it was allowed and was told it was. Even today, the first woman I spoke with had told me it was not problem, but then someone else told me I could not. So if you buy a coffee here, you must leave. I would recommend not buying coffee here since it was not very good anyways. On another note, my friend informed me that another family brought 3 adults to the back room with one child's reservation. My friend had 2 children's reservations for our party of 2 adults. Glad the rules don't apply to everyone. Only when they feel like it. In addition, there are no signs stating number of adults to child ratio or who can and cannot sit in the back room. There were stroller signs up stating that they are not allowed which I admittingly did not follow because I have a current elbow injury, but when asked to remove my stroller, I still obliged. Very poor experience. I will not be bringing my children back and will be advising others to avoid. Poor business model to deny a tired mother to drink her coffee at the table in the place it was purchased. read more

It's a cute, clean, and fun place for the little ones. I saw some 1 star reviews and I can't imagine this place getting less than 5 stars. Sure it's small, but at least I can see my toddler from everywhere I stand or sit! I'd rather it be more intimate and safe than big. The coffee and treats are typical bakery items, but I'm going there for my child to play. The staff is nice. I've seen the owner multiple times and wish she'd say hi sometimes, but not going to fault them if they're busy. All in all, this place has everything your toddler would ever need! read more

My grandson CJ had a wonderful 1st Birthday gathering at this restaurant and the food and drinks were fantastic. I loved the separate play area for the children. It was so well configured -you could spot your child by simply walking up and down the seating area, which was larger than I expected considering the size of the café. if you wanted to, you can take off your shoes and go in and help guide your child along, but the children were interacting so well with each other that there was not a need. We really enjoyed the party as adults we got to chat, and the children had a very good time and the layout and toys encouraged the children to use their imagination. The young ladies that were serving the children and the adults were very attentive and made sure that everything went well and I loved that they were very detailed when cleaning up the play area; while the children were enjoying their meals. read more

If I could give a big old goose egg, ZERO stars, I would. I had my daughter's birthday here a few weeks ago and during the party it appeared as though the staff did not communicate with each other -- i was given conflicting directives from one staff member to the next and it was just so disorganized. They rushed us out but i tried to give them the benefit of the doubt because we had the 1pm slot and there was a party right after. They were so rude to all of my guests and their behavior was SO embarrassing. They literally played CLOSING TIME twice in a row. Disgusting. They don't give enough time in between parties to clean up the previous party and set up for the next, that is for sure. Also, that SUPER NARROW "alley" where where the parents are supposed to sit is so poorly designed. you're literally stuck pinballing back and forth just to go to the bathroom or walk from one side to the other. Like I said I tried giving them the benefit of the doubt since there was a party after us. But we went to another party and we went to the 5pm slot, which is the last party of the night and their staff was so rude to all the guests AGAIN, kicking everyone out. I understand you want to get home and all of that but there's definitely a better approach instead of being so rude and nasty to everyone and so unwelcoming. I DO NOT recommend this place at all. It's cramped, the staff is rude, the organization is poor. If you want to have a party there, you should make sure you're only inviting like 5 kids total and one parent for each kid and if you love to be rushed out in such a nasty way and have all of the staff members be so blatantly rude to you and your guests, and your favorite song is closing time, then i guess this is the place for you lol. Save your money and go to MIMA in sayreville or chuckecheese in middletown instead where the kids and parents actually have space to move around, the prices are comparable, and most importantly, where the staff is isn't nasty and rude AF to your guests. read more

They rushed through everything, did not cut and serve the cake! The girls that worked there were the unfriendliest workers I've come across. I came to Small town as part of a birthday party. Upon walking in, the place looked nice but very small. The walkway is narrow and the play area was closed after the first 50 minutes of the party starting and remained closed throughout the remaining time. For a children's place this made 0 sense to me, the space was very small and tight so not much for the kids to do outside of the play area. The staff was rushing everyone and we didn't even get to cut the cake and hand it out. I know timing is not their fault, but allowing the kids to play would have made more room and space for setting up between food and cake. I will not be returning to this location. We've been to so many great kids parties at kids play settings and none were this bad. I truly felt bad for all the kids and parents. read more
