Kaiser Permanente referred my child here. I was provided an appointment and canceled on time. This office is clearly money hungry. They are sending me to collections for $65. Why couldn't they bill the kaiser insurance if they wanted to get paid so bad. My son was seen at kaiser panorama city instead and this place is still trying to collect money. I called the place right now too, it's Friday and it's closed. What kind of community facility closes on Fridays. I'm going to consult with an attorney. Horrible experience at this place! This is clearly fraud. Update: I filed a complaint with Kaiser for referring me to a place that commits fraud and they reimbursed me for the $60 this place ended up charging me for a legitimate cancelation excuse. Kaiser apologized and told me they will make sure not to contract with this place anymore! If you were referred to this place by your medical doctor, file a grievance or complaint with them and they might be able to pay the fees, reimburse you or stop contracting with small talk therapy so they can stop charging people illegally. Life happens people need to cancel and the least that can be done, is to give people an opportunity to reschedule once without charging them any fees! I'm happy Kaiser listens and they will follow up and file appropriate complaints with the state licensing board. read more

This is the worst place in the world to receive services. They are only worried about a check. I the activities do not help measure growth and the the therapist makes up fake signs for sign language which could potentially cause a none speaking child to be confused later on. My son was going here when he first got diagnosed with Autism to help with speech and OT later on . He had an amazing therapist Miss Vera. The office staff was very friendly even though they went through front desk like candy. Everyone was very sweet and easy going. His therapist Miss Vera was with my son for a little over 3yrs. She left and unfortunately that left my therapy up in the air. We were on a wait list for a new therapist what felt like 3 months. He was also on the list for OT. When he was doing speech and OT did stay with one consistent speech therapist but had gone through two different OT therapist. When the change came he was just put on a list. It was upsetting because I felt like we had been there for such a long time. We have seen therapist come and go, front desk change so much, but we stay hoping that they would find something for my son right away but they didn't we just another family vs how we felt when we first started there. It's didn't feel warm and welcoming like before. My only option when I got a call for a new therapist was he can be seen his normal 2x time a week but with two different therapist. I felt like that was not going to work for him or even for the therapist themselves going back and front on my son progress. It's sound to complicated. I never got a callback about 0T. We finally got one therapist availability who was able to do his 2x a week. The first session it's didn't feel right. She didn't introduce herself. She didn't ask about my sons concerns or goals we have for him as a family . She didn't give us any idea of what she would like to do. All she did was give him an iPad where he can push the button and it would speak for him. So at this point we left small talk in a whole. We had been there for over 3 years and felt like they didn't care about getting my son back on track with his sessions. read more

My 2 year old has been attending for a couple months now and her speech and skills have improved tremendously. She's hitting all of her milestones with the help of each provider. My daughter has been going here for almost a year and has enjoyed her sessions at small talk therapy. She does speech therapy as well as OT and I feel like her progress is thanks to the therapy she has been receiving. The therapist are very friendly and patient with her. Her speech therapist Kate is amazing. My daughter took to her instantly and her ability to connect with her made made the sessions that much more enjoyable. I'm upset to even have to write this review. My son received 3 appointments in total, first one was with a therapist who was leaving the company the next week (why do the FIRST apt with someone who's not even going to be there to continue the service) at least she had a room with little to no distractions to work on focus with my 20 month old at the time (mind you iv been on a list since he was 12 months) His second appointment didn't go so well for the fact the therapist didn't have time to clean up the room in between patients (which is odd because I thought they had to throughly clean the toys in between kids...) so with toys literally everywhere he had no need to focus on what the therapist was trying to do. She knew this and still his 3rd apt he was in a room FULL of toys everywhere all over the floor. My son has a few signs down from me using them consistently, the therapist make up their own signs (now how does that work when they switch the therapist every appointment? Definitely not using the same ones. I only use ASL signs so his communication isn't made up crap no one but I can understand. I tried to ignore all those issues and understand the $75 copay is worth it. I get a call Feb 4th explaining that they didn't verify my deductible before my Jan 3rd appointment and the $75 I paid wasn't enough and I owed $33 more as well as informing me the appointment we had Jan 23rd was not $75 anymore it was $108... now any, and every doctors office I've ever been to has always verified insurance and deductibles/co-pays in the beginning of the appointment before being sent back. They had stated that they call the insurance company and realize the price they had given me on January 3 and the 23rd were incorrect. The problem is I did not agree to that amount If I would've known that that was the amount in the beginning of the appointment I would have made sure my finances were able to afford it.. they called me telling me I owe them $141 and his appointments from January and moving forward are $108 each for a 30 minute appointment. So that would mean his next apt I would have to pay $249 because their front desk workers did not do their job and verify the deductible owed at that time. The owner of the company threatened me with collections if it's not paid. Stating the amount charged before the appointment is an "estimate" iv never been charged an "estimate" at a doctors office. I'm saddened at how this company works and takes advantage of people. Unfortunately I no longer have help for my child because I cannot afford to pay. Iv asked to speak to someone higher in the company rather than the secretary but they refuse. read more

I received a bill over a year after service. I'm not going to delve into details, but if you go to this place make sure you get your billing questions in writing. I spoke to several people on the phone and honestly seems like the owner is more concerned to squeeze every penny out of their patients and their insurance. read more

My 6 year old has been going to the Lancaster location for about a year and a half now for both speech and occupational therapy, and we've had a great experience! He currently sees Emily for OT and Mariah for Speech, and both therapists are so good at engaging him and making therapy fun! Horrible place! Every specialist I've ever been referred to has a grace period for being late. I was less than 10 mins late and I was refused service and I was advices that I would still have to pay a cancellation fee! I did not cancel I was told they can't help me. Our son has been receiving speech therapy for over a year here as well as OT(occupational therapy). In that year he has had 3 different speech therapists. The first one, I changed because the few sessions that we had, she literally had him watch some YouTube videos that were related to speech therapy, then when they were over she asked him what he thought. He was 6 at the time. When I pressed her about his initial evaluation in regards to a treatment plan and strategies; she read his evaluation aloud to me, and it was very apparent that she had never even looked at it before that moment. Not even a glance. She was absolutely terrible. I demanded a new therapist and got one. Though that particular "therapist " is STILL THERE! No standards. Our second therapist was great but she left for greener pastures (I don't blame her). Our third therapist was also great but the lack of organization and the very thinly veiled money grab that this place seems to be overshadowed her abilities. They would cancel DAY OF on NUMEROUS occasions. When I asked that they send over my son's evaluations to his pediatrician, they NEVER ARRIVED even after I was told that "they were sent". My son had his yearly evaluation and HIS ACTUAL THERAPIST HAD NO IDEA NOR DID SHE EVEN GET A COPY OF IT. Also I had to pay for that evaluation as well. Last straw was a phantom appointment set by my wife(she never deals with them and never called them). I called to cancel said appointment TWICE because I caught the error and was argued with,TWICE that my wife had scheduled it. I had to call a second time because the appointment WAS NOT CANCELLED THE FIRST TIME I CALLED. when I asked why, I was told "oh I must have been preoccupied and forgot". My son started therapy here in July 2020. They seemed to be kind, until 3 months later the cancelled my sons appointment, the day of. The said I needed to get another prescription from his primary doctor to send in to his insurance. I called his doctor and they sent it right over to their office. I called Small Talk again and was told they'd get back to me as soon as it was approved by his insurance. After a week of nothing, I called his insurance myself, to find they had already approved it. I continued to call and was never answered or received a call back. I decided to switch his place of speech therapy immediately. Here we are 4 months later(since they cancelled his appointment and never returned my call) and get an email from Abigail saying I owe 536$. His deductible (200$) was paid before he even started receiving services and the copay (7.50$) was collected each session. They tried saying the invoice was for feb. 2021, but he hasn't been there for months. I called to see what the issue was and they couldn't even give me the dates of service they are trying to bill me for. After talking with my sons insurance, I found that EVERY claim sent to them WAS PAID. read more

I am not sure the previous review is talking about the right Small Talk. This place is literally brand new and immaculate! I am the mother of a 10 year old boy who came to me with concerns about his speech and the idea that sometimes he thinks that he says words wrong. I looked for a solution for him. I came across Small Talk who presented an opportunity to assess my son's speech development. From the onset the company was curteous, welcoming, and extremely professional. Mr. Steve performed the assessment. He instantly gained rapport with my son. I was presented with the results which were explained to me in detail. My son was given a treatment plan and assigned a Speech Therapist who worked with me to develop a scheduled that worked with my son's busy schedule. Each week after therapy I was given an explanation of progress and some follow up steps to do at home. His Speech Therapist, Mrs. Ericka was always happy to see him and worked hard to build a relationship with my son to optimize results. She was encouraging and supportive and kept him informed of his progress. My son was in Speech Therapy for 4 months and graduated. His success is highly attributed to the experts at Small Talk. They work with families to set goals, support progress, and celebrate successes. I highly recommend their services. They even take most insurances.
