I've used the Slug & Lettuce for eating during the daytime and drinking in the evenings, you get two completely different experiences here. I much prefer eating here, the menu has a lot of choice and food is well prepared. The staff are helpful and I don't usually have to wait long for my food which is handy as I usually only eat here during lunch breaks. I try to avoid drinking here on busy Friday & Saturday nights, there are so many pubs in St Albans I don't see the point in queuing forever to get served (if you can even get to the bar as many groups just seem to congregate there and get in everyone's way) and standing around unable to chat over the music. In my day (here comes some nostalgia) groups of blokes and groups of girls would go out, have a few drinks and have a bit of banter with the opposite sex, regardless of whether the intentions were to go on the pull or just have a laugh. The Slug & Lettuce is the type of place where the modern day youth spend their evenings standing around pouting, checking themselves out on the mirror and not engaging with anyone outside of their own group.
