The food is bought during the harvest months and preserved and then you get it in the winter. I am far too lazy to actually do this myself, so this CSA is perfect for me! I've gotten corn, strawberries, blueberries, cranberries (awesome for Tgiving dinner), raspberries, pumpkin puree, tomatoes, squash, peaches...tons more that I can't think of off the top of my head. Yes, it is not cheap. I am about the cheapest person I know and even I will pay for this because the quality is that good. I also spent some time at the warehouse this summer and I saw first-hand the hard work that goes into the process of preserving this food. I will also say that I just paid $8 for a quart of blueberries. If the average price here is $7 per bag, I'm getting almost a full quart (I think it was 12 oz) of blueberries for that price. So I'm really only paying a little bit more and I don't have to actually freeze them. (Yeah I know it's not hard to freeze blueberries...did I mention that I'm not only the cheapest person I know, but the laziest??? :)) Seriously, this is a cool business. Check it out.

I was skeptical about the quality of the food being offered. After all, when you buy frozen…read morevegetables and fruits at the grocery store, you usually end up with something watery and/or mushy. And the cost was also an issue. But Rena did a smart thing: She let people buy a sample package just before Thanksgiving without making a commitment for the whole season. And as soon as I tasted their frozen sweet corn, I knew I had to sign up. I handed over my money, picked up my first batch of fruits and veg and have never regretted it. Everything's relative, so unlike a previous reviewer who is always surprised at how little food she gets every month, I'm always surprised at how MUCH I get. Whatever freezing process they use, it works. Asparagus was nice and crisp, and the fruits retain so much more flavor than the frozen fruit you pick up in the grocery store. These foods are not fresh--they ARE frozen--so you can't expect them to be the same as fresh when they are thawed, but this produce comes as close as I think is possible. And it's so nice to be able to taste these delicious flavors in the dead of winter.

They have an INCREDIBLE selection of teas, pastries and assorted home goods. Fueled by local artists and tea lovers, their gift-shop is the perfect place to get a unique gift for a loved one. Fun fact! The owners helped co-write "Tea for Dummies"! Several gluten free options- I had the almond cake and it was to die for! Staff is very helpful and will let you smell all the teas you'd like. We ended up going home with several 100g bags to stock up for fall. The Tea is available in 50g, 100g, and 200g amounts and priced by blend. Most of them are between $6-10 per 50g. Very reasonably priced! Parking is street parking. There are meters directly out front, and around all sides of the building.

Honestly, I was a bit overwhelmed when I came in. There's a tea bar area, the loose leaf tea wall, pastries and other desserts, swag, a tasting area, and apparently it was trivia night tonight. I experienced all of this in just the first minute or two of entering. And it was packed! I really appreciate the time taken to explain the shop to me and walk me through many of the teas. Although they were busy, I didn't feel rushed (there were 2-3 people working the registers) and it felt very personal chatting. I was able to smell a bunch, and could really tell the differences in them. I ended up getting 3 50g bags and 2 sample bags, plus some stickers and pins. Really excited to try these out. Their range goes from darker to lighter, and they have a wide variety of black, green, rooibos, and herbal teas/blends.

First I was so excited to see strawberries in stock, given they have had such a rough crop this summer. And not only did they have them but they had quite a bit! They're small but mighty delicious! In particular I'm mightly geeked that they carry Bird Dog Baking from Ypsi (love their rye teacake), White Lotus Farms (my husband can't stop raving about the pistachio blackberry croissant I brought him), Why Not Pie?, Harvest Kitchen, and more. And of course, my beloved Crust. Everyone here is so kind. The mission is so important. And their products are so great. Love having them so close by!

My boyfriend and I sold our football tickets this past weekend and decided to go on a tour of all…read morethings fall in Michigan this weekend! We wanted to do a hayride, pumpkin patch, and corn maze (peak fall activities!) and this place had all 3 things! I was very impressed with the prices- $16 per adult. That included the corn maize, hay ride, and small farm. I will say, make sure to have cash because this place (along with the Dexter Cider Mill which is just down the road from here) is cash only. They do have an ATM machine on the property, but you do have to pay a convenience fee. The corn maze is a lot of fun and there are options to exit in 3 different places if you don't want to go through the whole thing. I wasn't sure how hard it would be, but it proved to be pretty challenging! We got stuck in a loop for probably 10 minutes lol and the whole thing took a little over an hour. There are 8 number signs that you follow throughout the maze which are clearly posted and even have the QR code to a map if you get lost. Me and my boyfriend kept commenting how fun (but scary) a haunted corn maze here would be! We asked the staff if they ever hosted any haunted events and they told us not right now, but maybe in the future. I think that would be awesome and for what it's worth, I would be the FIRST one to come if they made a haunted hayride or corn maze! The hayride was ~20 minutes and took us on the side of the corn maze and pumpkin patch and through a small loop in the woods. It was a great ride to relax after going through the maze for over an hour. Lastly, the pre-picked pumpkin patch towards the entrance of the space was so cute! The prices were amazing- $1 for 2 small pumpkins/gourds and $3-$5 for pumpkins depending on their size. We paid $4 for 5 pumpkins (3 small pumpkins, 1 small gourd, and a larger one to paint). These days, pumpkins at the grocery store are SO expensive so this was so nice, especially for small families and kids who want their own pumpkin. As I had mentioned above, it is also a 4 minute drive from the Dexter Cider Mill as well so make a stop there on your way home! They do sell concessions- donuts, cider, and lots of food here at Blast, but I'd recommend taking the short drive to a classic cider mill well-known in Michigan for their cider and donuts! I appreciated that this place wasn't as commercialized as other places in Michgan (Wiards, etc.). It was fun to be surrounded by a variety of people- young families, kids, other couples, and even other college students. There was something for everyone to do and all the staff were so friendly and helpful! Easily lots to do here and can be a whole day activity! We were here for ~2 hours but could've spent longer if we had walked around more. We will be coming back and think this place would be a fun tradition to come to each fall, especially since they change their maze every year so it will always be a challenge!
