Hooray! This year was a GOOD year for cherries and I was so excited to get out there and pick some of those ruby red jewels! The yield on the trees was abundant and I picked a good 5lbs (the minimum, FYI) and they were SO delicious! I took them home to process and turn into tart cherry jam, a jar of which got swirled into some homemade vanilla ice cream with an oat crisp, making it the most delicious cherry pie a la mode flavored ice cream! They also had an great crop of gooseberries and black currant when I was there. Red currant was on the horizon as were raspberries. Unfortunately they're probably done picking now but in just a few weeks we'll likely have another round of raspberries and, of course, delicious apples (and cider and donuts, natch!). so pleasantly surprised by Wasem's! we usually go to Dexter or Franklin but we wanted to bring our pups and wanted more space to walk them. Wasem's has a lovely u pick orchard! Standard varieties. Love that they also have different varieties of donuts - apple, blueberry, chocolate, pumpkin with different glazes/toppings! My boss and I were doing our annual Michigan Trial Garden Tour and wanted to stop at a farm to get fresh fruit. I stumbled upon Wasem during my google searches. We went right around when they opened which is the best time to go since the donuts are the freshest and still warm. Safe to say this find was a huge bonus to our business trip. The employees were super friendly and welcoming. Very cheery environment. They had multiple flavors of donuts from apple to blueberry to cherry to raspberry. All mouthwatering options so made it near impossible to choose. We tried a mix of flavors but the one that stood out to me was the raspberry donut. They had just pulled them out of the oven and we ate one right there in the shop. It was beyond words. Best donut my boss and i ever had. I haven't even had a donut since then. It was raspberry season at the time so i wanted to try some fresh raspberries. The employees were super helpful and kind. They didn't have raspberries available right that moment but they walkied someone in the field and had the pick them fresh off the bush for me. You can see the raspberry field right when you park your car. The donut shop is inside an old looking barn giving it rustic vibes. I love to pick apples but I'm not an expert at the different farms in the greater Ann Arbor area. This was my second place. We chose this farm for two reasons: good reviews and they allow dogs. My dog loved it! And I enjoyed it too. The positives: the apples are really tasty and lots of them! The cider is extremely good--the best cider I can remember ever drinking in my life. The donuts are good, but not great--nice texture and very fresh but could have more flavor. The staff is really nice and helpful. Negatives: There were not a lot of Apple varieties available to pick, I think 3, and only 2 of them tasted good. It was a couple of weeks into the season. There's also not a lot to do other than pick apples and buy stuff in the small store with limited inventory. Some other apple picking places have more much activities and items to buy. Also, the min. size bag is a 1/2 bushel which is a lot of apples. We picked around 50. It was super fun picking them but wasn't sure what to do with them all--gave most away to friends, coworkers and acquaintances, and cooked an apple crumble (delicious!). But in closing, the 2 apple varieties (Gala and Macintosh) they had were very tasty, my dog loved it, the cider is insane, and I enjoyed the experience, so in the immortal words of Arnold Schwarzenegger: "I'll be bach." read more

Awesome family farm, and right now they have u pick (sour/tart/pie) cherries (next day is July 7 as of now per their site). See their website for details, and do bring a basket or light bucket. I had never picked cherries before, and it was a great time. Many were edible off the tree, and not too sour, even though they are NOT SWEET CHERRIES. They also have ladders for you to use to get the ones that are higher up. If you want to get some steps in /exercise, park by the building at the front. If you have small children, or people who don't want to walk 10-15 min, you might want to park closer to the cherry trees. read more

Wasem's is a solid option if you're looking to get some cider and donuts near Ann Arbor! I stopped by one weekend and found that it's a nice little spot for hanging out, and they're really doing their best during this pandemic season. For 2020, you-pick apples aren't available, but they do still offer all of the standard commodities you'd expect, inside the building. The pumpkin patch is still open, and you'll likely find a bunch of young families hanging out there. Wasem's is good about having clear directions for people to follow as they move through the building (to pick up cider, apples, donuts, etc.), and they're enforcing mask wearing and social distancing inside the building as well. The one downside about this location is that there is almost no outdoor seating (sitting on the grass is certainly an option), and I've seen cider mills that are offering distanced picnic benches, etc. The cider and donuts taste great so it's a good value overall! read more

If you are looking for an Apple orchard to get good fruit I would definitely recommend this place. They have excellent cider and donuts as well but I came for the apples and I got what I was looking for! Very few places are "you pick" anymore and this place was! They also had other fruits (plums), you pick flowers, and they just opened their you pick pumpkins on October 1 so that was also available. Everyone was super friendly and helpful and one of the ladies even helped me carry out Apple cider when my hands were full. They really seem to care about their trees and everything was well maintained. Definitely will be going back and would recommend it to anyone looking for a great orchard experience! read more

Wasem fruit farm was all that I had hoped it to be. I was looking for a small place just to pick apples from my apple butter, pick up some cider and donuts, and avoid the hordes of people that normally crowd cider mills in November. This place was really no frills, just a handwritten list with things crossed off that you were able to pick. You go in to purchase a bag for $0.50 and then find your way to the Orchards to pick your apples. The half a bushel we got today was $12 since it was the end of season but from the hand-written list it looks like they're normally around 16. The orchard itself was pretty small but we were able to pick half a bushel in about 30 minutes while taking time to goof around and of course eat a few apples. I think we ate about 4 apples my favorite being the Granny Smith. The reviews talked about having the best donuts and I think I have to agree. We got a dozen donuts for $9 and I wish I had bought one more. Unlike other cider mills that restrict you 2 Apple donuts and plain Donuts they had multiple varieties. With pumpkin Donuts you can choose from plain, sugared or glazed, you get your choice with blueberry, plain, sugared or glazed and the same pattern follows for the Apple Donuts they also have plain Donuts as well for the non adventurous. I'm happy to report back that they say they're open in the winter time on Fridays with cider and donuts and you better believe that we will be back. $7 a gallon for apple cider is a pretty good deal to when you're paying $10 at most other places around. read more

What a fun place to visit! While I think it is a must-do for families, I can see it also being fun for just about anyone. The ground is pretty level throughout so there is easy, safe access to everything and even those not so steady on their feet should feel comfortable being outdoors here. Don't fret about the line in front of the building, unless you want donuts (but who doesn't want donuts! and these are awesome!). If u came to pick (this is a u-pick farm), then you can walk right up to the register and buy a bag and get the spiel about which rows to pick from, what varieties are available and what to avoid. The bag is mandatory, that's how they set the price for the apples. 50 cents for a bag. $16 to fill it. Tip: bring some plastic bags and a marker to segregate the apples you pick by variety. Believe it or not, when they all get mixed together, a Macintosh looks just like an Empire to a novice! I don't know much about u-pick prices so the price may seem a little expensive to some, but here's how we looked at it: There was no parking fee, we could stay as long as we wanted, the kids had plenty of room to run and explore nature on a beautiful fall day and we got way more than $16 worth of cool family photo ops! Tip: wear something red. Against the apples hanging in the trees, this could be your next Christmas card pic! We saw a couple of kids in red shirts and overalls being photographed in a tree. Kodak moment! We snapped a picture of a little one in our group sitting on a crate that said "Macintosh" at the end of the row. Too cute! Don't let the exterior fool you. This hidden gem was recommended to me by a cashier at Trader Joe's on a recent trip. She claimed they had the best donuts around and she wasn't wrong. I'm a sucker for apple cider donuts and always try them whenever I can. So far these are the best in the area without having to drive two hours north to my favorite place near my grandparents. I had never been cherry picking before so I wasn't sure what to expect but I had best time! They make everything very simple for you and easy to follow. You check in at the building and then they give you some buckets. Thy tell you what areas are available for picking and you drive your car down into the farm (follow the signs)! They already had ladders out so you could pick cherries from the top of the trees, or the bottom if you prefer. It's so relaxing! My friend and I had a great time. A great fruit farm and orchard that is just that. They don't try to be everything all at once -- no distracting haunted houses or sideshows. I don't mind that I can't get fudge or wine or a bunch of other things that seem to be edging their way into the cider mill experience. In fact, I found it really refreshing that Wasem's seems to stick with the basics -- great apples, including the option to U-Pick! Plenty of cider, some popcorn, pumpkins. And donuts. Oh, maaaan, donuts! You can watch a whole team of ladies makin' these donuts as you stand in line. Pumpkin, blueberry, apple cider and plain -- in a variety of glazes, or with cinnamon and sugar. You can even ask them to powder-up your donuts too (though I don't know if you really need that!). The building is nice and simple -- with sweet fruit-themed decorations painted on cinder blocks -- totally charming. Sure, there may be a line to get your goodies, but it's nowhere near as long as some places, and I can pretty much guarantee some great kid/dog/general people-watching! Great no-frills u-pick orchard with cider and donuts, and a few picnic tables outside (where kids and bees like to congregate). Apples, raspberries, pears, pumpkins, sunflowers to pick in season; plums and other fruits off-limits (but available at the Ann Arbor Farmers Market). They have instructions and a map in front; be forewarned that a half-bushel bag is the minimum for U-Pick, so be prepared to fill it up! We spent about $20 for more apples than we know what to do with - they make great gifts, though! :-) The grounds are pretty, well-kept, and manageable - not so big you'll want your car, and not so small that everything gets picked over quickly. There's a corn maze next door at Talladay Farms I've never been to; not the kind of place to go find hayrides and mazes and animatronics (e.g. the Disneyfied experience at Three Cedars Farm). read more

My first time doing U-Pick apples and Wasem Fruit Farm did NOT disappoint!! When you enter you are greeted by the smell of fresh doughnuts, beautiful fruit, and cider. My fiancé and I decided to buy a half bushel bag and head out to pick! All the had left was Red Delicious, and Idareds, so we went for the Idareds. I have to say, these are some of the best Idareds I've ever had!! Plus a half bushel was only $19! ( It's ALOT of apples..) When we finished we decided to grab a doughnut and cider to go. We chose the pumpkin glazed doughnut. Wow... It was incredible! It had really great pumpkin flavor, not too sweet, and a nice crunch followed by delicious warm doughnut-y goodness. The cider is also outstanding! We got a half gallon jug and I don't see it lasting very long around our house! I would definitely recommend this place if you're looking to pick some fresh fruit, get some cider and a doughnut, or just enjoy the nice fall weather. This was my favorite cider mill when I lived in Belleville after I attended on a kindergarten foeld trip. I would buy cider at the end of the season and freeze it to drink warm in the winter. There are three types of donuts with a total of about 9 varieties total. The cinnamon apple cider are good.. So is the pumpkin flavor. They're made fresh right behind the counter. I recommend bringing bags because they won't bag them separately. Apples are a bit pricey but not unreasonable. They also carry pumpkins and squash for purchase. Dirt road and portajon. Love it. I LOVED this place! I just moved to Michigan for my new job and my coworker told me I had to come to Wasem's. He went there growing up and they had the best apple donuts around. He was not wrong, we only got 1/2 dozen donuts and finished them by the time we got home! The picking was really nice, though it was picked over but there are still apples toward the back of the rows. Social distancing and masks were enforced and there wasn't super large crowds so it was very nice. We felt safe and loved our first apple picking experience in Michigan!!! This fruit farm was pretty disappointing. There was hardly anything around. They said they close at 6, however, when we arrived at 5:20, they stopped apple picking. Also, they kept telling us that if we wait in line, we might not be able to get any donuts. They've been saying that from 5:20 until 6:30 and people who were there in between those times were able to purchase donuts. I'm not sure whether that was their tactic to make us leave, but I was disappointed. I really wanted donuts but they said the moment we get inside, we won't get any donuts. I wished I waited in line. If I plan on going to a fruit farm, definitely not coming back here. read more

This will ensure that you find the best apples, the shortest lines, and the least amount of obnoxious undergrads throwing apples at each other. -- They have ladders-- Dont be afraid to use them! As with finding a mate, don't just go for the low hanging fruit. The better ones are harder to get,and require some effort, but are always worth it in the end. -- Save room for doughnuts at the end. (This might just be a problem for me). I had so many apples when I was apple picking that by the end, when it was doughnut time, I almost done gave myself diabetes. -- ignore the bees, try not to step or swat the wasps and you will be fine. -- $5 for a big ass box of raspberries is a steal. The catch is you have to either herniate a disc in your lower back or get on hands and knees like a peasant to gather them. I chose the peasant route. -- If you try to buy donuts after 5pm, they will not let you. But if you ask nicely, bat your eyelashes, and/or cry, they will let you buy some in their reserve batch. No, these are just the right size to tear in two, nibble on one while the other half cools in your fingers. Pumpkin spice was magical, fantastical, deliciously and deviously good. I think the beau and I had three gone before we actually reached "town" and we resisted as best we could until we got home. Such is the nature of the apple cider doughnut adventure (or pumpkin cider doughnut, which is delicious): it taunts, teases, and seductively lures your senses into self-destructive, wanton bliss. Prices are good for the doughnuts, fair for everything else. My husband and I decided to go to this farm during a rainy fall day. It didn't look all that impressive when we first arrived but we were delighted when we saw the orchard in the back. The donuts were the best I've ever had at any other farm in Michigan. Perfectly crunchy and sweet. I could have a dozen in one go if I don't stop myself. We picked beautifully, tart raspberries which I made into wonderful raspberry jam once I got home. We decided to not pick apples since the Granny Smith (my favorite) weren't in season yet. Instead we bought tiny red tart apples that had already been picked and they tasted like fresh cherries. My mouth is watering just thinking about them. Best donuts in the area, hands down. Seriously - eating a Wasem donut is like a religious experience. The apples are great, too. I recommend reading all the descriptions of the various apple types so you get the right ones for your needs (sauce, pie, etc). There are few things better in life than having a Wasem donut and cider early in the morning under an apple tree. One sidenote: The Yelp description says they don't take credit cards.
