The staff and the food are good, it's the other patrons that are the problem, unfortunately. It is SO LOUD out there, any hopes for a peaceful or romantic dinner on the patio are ruined. No, not the restaurant's fault, but each time we have gone, there has been loud & obnoxious tables that ruin the vibe. Patio desperately needs a power wash. Lovely views though! Dark. Really dark, after you've been out in the sun and snow on the ski runs. After your eyes adjust, you can see that it's a fairly nice place, with a fireplace and ski-gear-on-the-wall-as-decorations motif. The red bucket chairs on casters are really, really comfy. I'm sure they have booze there, 'cuz there were some people talking with that loud voice you only get when you're a bit ... expansive. But we were there on a mission: refuel, warm up the toes, then go back out and ski like maniacs until they close the lifts and tell us to go home already. Our waiter made us feel at home. She didn't rush us, and came to check on us often enough. Great service! We decided to split a Reuben sandwich. The corned beef was not too salty. The sauerkraut had been warmed on the grill. Sometimes, they keep it cold, but we like it warmed up, 'specially in the winter. The bread was swirly pumpernickel rye. The waitress brought us each our own basket, and we each had a pickle and crunchy homemade ripply potato chips (awesome!) along with our Reuben. It was plenty for me. Don't want to eat too much, then feel sluggish right at the top of a challenging ski run! Only about ten bucks, plus tip. A great deal for lunch at a ski resort. And you don't have to wade through the crowds, like over at the Boyne Highlands cafeteria. read more

The restaurant was pretty busy so we grabbed some seats at the bar. We were quickly greeted by a friendly bar tending wearing his mask. We asked for recommendations for a light dinner, and he recommended the Cubans sandwich or a pizza. We decided to build our own pizza with pepperoni, sausage, and jalapeño. The bartender said the pizza was the best in northern Michigan. I love pizza, so I was ready to give this pizza a try. Boy was he right! There's some sort of garlic butter that they put on their crust, and the pizza was just amazing! Grab some ranch for the crust. You won't regret it. read more

There's a new chef who is taking the food into anew direction. The food is more fresh and made from scratch. I had the cubano sandwich with their chips which are made inhouse. If you're coming in to warm up, this sandwich is a great choice. It has a bit of spice but nothing over powering. read more

Had a great pizza and drinks. Hubby said beer was super cold! Yum. Wine was a bit expensive but it is a resort location.

I have been coming here for years (unfortunately). This is the only real option for lunch at The Highlands. I want to be honest, nothing bothers me more than this incredibly bland, lame menu. There is truly nothing that intrigues me or any friends/family on this menu. If there is anything I could recommend for this place - change your menu and put some hooks under tables/on the posts for people to hang ski gear. Also, 6/8 meals we ordered today came to our table room temp, at best! Don't eat here unless you need to. read more

I like to mess with favorites, kick em up a notch, and I love most of the adult grilled cheese sandwiches I've seen in the past few years, since Panera introduced it to their menu a few years ago. But the grilled cheese at Boyne Slopeside, which appears to share a kitchen if not only a menu, with the main dining room, doesn't leave me satisfied nor wanting more. It was expertly crisped, and the bread, a 9-grain wheat, is inspired, even though I'd prefer a rye or pumpernickel. Somehow, though, the white cheddar with a tomato "fondue" (also inspired) and mayo butter, just don't pull it off. Maybe the mayo butter is to blame, causing sharp flavors to mellow to mush and slush. Whatever is going on in the flavor kingdom, it just ain't working here. I'm posting the new menu since it seems there's a new chef and new menu since the last. I kind of like the old menu better. Who doesn't love a Reuben? Then again, I hear the area is known for pasties, a Michigan version of an empanada perhaps. Why aren't those on the menu? I do think the smoked whitefish sounds good, but think it might work better as a dip, not on a sandwich overpowered with Bermuda onion. We'll have to see what others have to say about that, I might not have many chances to try the food here again before I leave tomorrow. Lots of pizza and lots of takers. But it's a really pleasant space to sit and watch the skiers and snowboarders or the tv's, have a drink, and get some real food. Prices are decent. A few but not too many families, kids. Great ambiance and tasty food- my go-to is their Bloody Mary (absolutely delicious, the best in tkwn!) and the Cubano sandwich (the best you'll find anywhere). Love when local bands play here, there is plenty of room for dancing! Avoid weekends during the Christmas holidays when drunk skiers are falling all over themselves! read more

My son and I wanted late night snacks and were pleasantly surprised with quality of the food. Although we ordered kind of heavy appetizers mozzarella sticks, sweet potato fries etc, they were not greasy and gave us no after burn. The waitress was super accommodating. I went in to purchase a Latte, and I decided I wanted an iced latte It cost 5.75. When I had read the chalkboard pricing the cost was 3.75 . Heather, the barista told me that she had to charge me 2 extra dollars for ICE? I paid for the latte to be nice and decided to wait a while and then call and ask how much the same iced latte I had purchased earlier would cost. when I called Heather told me it was 3.75 with the ice. long story short I marched back in and told them what I had done and what had happened. HEATHER ignored my presence and the nice ginger guy behind the counter apologized and was really nice about it and gave me my 2 dollars back. I don't trust there pricing so I will not be going there again. read more
