    We left our vacation rental early. We are repeat customers of Sloane, coming to OIB over 15 years. We rented the same home Sept 2017. In that stay, we had modest issues of occasional roach and the AC went out. The roaches weren't a big deal. AC repaired same day. Now, fast forward to May 2018. Strike 1:Arriving at the home we found 9 dead roaches of multiple types. Most were clearly dead a while and in clear/obvious locations dead center in the living area and bedrooms. Either a cleaning crew did not stop by or they were incompetent. Either is disappointing. Sloane called as we were cleaning. We shared our experience. She was apologetic but clearly complacent in reassuring us that all rentals get palmetto bugs and she can send housekeeping. She stated the house didn't rent the week before and housekeeping didn't come in prior to our arrival, subsequently the property manager noted they did come and potentially missed. Either way, service did not occur or was unfathomably poor. We cleaned then went to the grocery and bought traps and spray, still optimistic in our vacation. Strike 2:2 days later, when getting dressed, the door code goes off and a guy WALKS right through the door. No knocking, identifying himself as a Sloane employee, NOTHING. Standing in the kitchen my husband tries to stop him from coming as my child and myself are not dressed. He states he needs to fix something and thought the home empty. He asks us how long we are staying and we tell him Saturday. He wouldn't leave standing wedged in the door in eviction mode. Finally tells us sorry wrong location and should be at a similar address. We called Sloane to ensure our lock code was not to be deleted. They stated someone will call us back:Nope! Again Sloane numb to our experience. Strike 3:May 30th, ~10pm my daughter is getting ready for bed. I hear her start yelling she has a bug on her. It's a BED BUG! I immediately get her out of that room. We call the "after hours emergency line". They tell us someone will call back. Same lady calls back that Sloane will call us at 8am. What? Checked the other beds and found other signs of an issue (Shredded skins in the other beds. The oncall service stated protocol, email Sloane. We asked for the BED BUG protocol and she said THERE IS NONE! We tried to convince the lady to contact Sloane for instruction. No event calls to contact Sloane. Fire? call the fire department, Sloane not to be contacted. Plumbing breach? Disable the water, Sloane not to be contacted. AC out? Sloane not be contacted. She was not empowered to contact Sloane using her judgement to distinguish between routine bugs, handled in the morning, and bed bugs. I would not expect assistance from Sloane outside of business hours. Assume it's not a help line, but an answering service. Without help, we were willing on 0hrs sleep to drive 8hrs back home. 930am the property manager called us to say she DOES see the same layman signs of BED BUGS and we shouldn't have left. They have a pest control company coming. She did convey Sloane did have experience and protocol that does leave the consumer in the home. She called back later to tell us their exterminator identified no signs of BED BUGS and we must have had a BED BUG that decided to hitchhike. At that point, it then appeared Sloane planned to do nothing for the health of that house. So worried! We are certainly not confident in the assessment. Strike 4:The property manager offered us $100.00 from Sloane. We tell her we would like a full refund. She goes on and on to say we CHOSE to LEAVE. WHO WOULD STAY? Would you stay with your child in a place with Bed bugs? What did they want us to do when the 24 help line provided us no help? I had to remove my daughter from an unsafe/unsanitary place. She said her superior would call the following day (didn't call). She said she was going to call the owner of the rental to ask if they would be willing to refund us the nights we weren't there(never called back). We lost vacation time, the most precious. We lost fiscally, much greater than the rent. We tossed our luggage and belongings. Sloane failed to meet expectations. I do not fault the owner. They hire Sloane as a service to manage contracts, manage a home that is clean, safe, and to provide outstanding customer service. We believe we AND the homeowner should be refunded. Sloane become complacent and unfazed to customer service problems and incapable of distinguishing between small issues that can be deferred and large issues that meaningfully impact. My concern…read moreis with one of their properties: 20 Leland St. When we arrived on Saturday the house was not cleaned very well. There was no picture of the front entry stairs in the listing. The stairway was curved which made it hard for people with disabilities. Our disabled person had to go up the back way to get safely into the house. Stuff found under furniture and under cushions. Inside the kitchen cabinets were dirty. Glass top on the coffee table was dirty underneath. Large window blind in master bedroom was not functional. Shower door on one tub shower was not attached at the bottom. We had to call maintenance to replace nine light bulbs and clean out sink and bathtub drains. Dishwasher quit working so we had to hand wash the dishes the last four days of our stay. When on vacation I don't expect to be doing clean up and dealing with nonfunctioning appliances. McClure'a policy is not to give refunds for mechanical break downs and I get that. The owner should provide some type of compensation for the inconvenience caused while on vacation. I ask for some compensation but the owner refused. I would think after paying over $7000 for a two week vacation home I would receive some consideration for things that were not quite right.

This has by far been the most neglected pet friendly rental we've ever stayed in. Underneath there is exposed piping, and an old sewage pipe that was covered with some sand and left under the house. Shower doors are barely functional, with no handles, and door is off the tract. All rugs in the house have at least some corners chewed off, and the couches are in very poor condition from neglect of cleaning, and upkeep. The one recliner in the house is completely broken and we found an E-cigarette in it!!! Windows were cracked upon arrival , and broke with the most minimal touch, and cut one of our children. When maintenance was called they said we could put tape over it. Still waiting for it to be repaired and it's rained the last 2 days and there is a golf ball sized hole in the window. Flooring in the kitchen is pulling up around the edges, This property does NOT have a dishwasher or washer and dryer. These are things that are usually standard in other rentals, so if you're a seasoned OIB renter, prepare for this!!! Positives: Shower underneath house is great, much better than the ones in the house. Location is good to walk across the street to the beach. Overview: This is one of the most neglected pet friendly rentals i've stayed in. No pride has been taken in the care of this house, and i hope people will research this before staying here, as it really put a bit of a damper on our stay with our children, and we didn't even spend a lot of time IN the house, we had to take time out of our vacation to drive 30 minutes away to the nearest laundromat and pay $20+ to wash . The things ive highlighted are just the things that affected us the most, The Esthetics of the house aren't really all that important to us, so we are daily low maintenance renters, but this house had to be reviewed. A bit more updated house would make any vacationers trip more enjoyable and just easier and would definitely encourage repeat renters.

    Avoid at all cost! Could not rent our normal place (which we love), because our dog is getting…read moreolder and could not handle the stairs. Big construction project that the owners knew about but either did not tell Sloane or Sloane did not tell us. Four of our six weeks we stayed was dealing with everything. So much for a nice quiet, relaxing time at the beach. 8:00 am wake up every morning and work till 5:00. Street shut down. Dirt and dusk over our cars every day. Can sit on porch or even have a door or window open. Driveways ripped out or blocked. Glad I rented this expensive disaster. House has lots of issues also. Major CF! One star because you can't give zero or negative.

    I rented a condo in the Continental through Sloane. I knew it is an old motel (1960s?) and so…read moredidn't expect a lot. I got quite a bit less. The condos are individually owned, but are managed by Sloane. The first condo I was in was pretty bad. No AC in the living room (!), mold on the bedroom and bathroom windows, wifi/ TV not working, electric jack in bathroom not working, badly stained bath-tub, an ancient stove so rusted and dirty that I would not cook anything in it. Sloane is not responsible for the condition of a unit, but they could be more attentive to cleaning. The floor had not seen a wet mop in a very long time. Bring house shoes! But the stove and microwave are so old, chipped, and rusted, that no amount of cleaning will help. I must give Sloan, and their front desk person, Susan, high marks for listening, trying to fix, and eventually offering me another unit. Sloan got the wifi working, sent someone to replace the bath socket, which still did not work. But perhaps they could be most selective in the properties they agree to manage. Unit 104 is horrid. Only positives I can offer about 104 are the towels are nice quality, the bedding was clean, the dishes and glassware are good quality. The second unit I was in, 201, was much cleaner than 104, but still has the ancient rusted dirty stove and microwave, and some pots and pans that should be in the trash. Putting a coat of paint on walls, and hanging some decor is not enough to upgrade an old space. Since the rules require the renter to wash all dishes, providing dish detergent and a couple of kitchen towels would be helpful. Be sure to bring paper towels and a hair dryer.
