First off, it's adorable. Whoever decorated definitely has an eye, it's like eating in a beautiful little indoor garden. To start, we got the egg rolls and I tried the Thai Me Up, which is like an alcohol-infused Thai Iced Tea. Yum! For my entree I got the Bò Lúc Lắc / shaking beef which was really special. The noodles were cooked perfectly, the sauce was rich and garlicky, and the beef was tender and marinated well. I could happily eat two bowlfuls. The service was great, everyone was so nice. The owner was stopping by each table to greet guests, which I thought was very thoughtful, and not something you see everyday. The place was packed and I can understand why, we'd be coming here all the time if we lived closer. Go Pho King!

I already bookmarked Pho King the night before and so I recommended that we come here. So glad we did! It is a cozy yet beautifully designed interior that is trendy and welcoming, but what truly sets this place apart is the phenomenal hospitality. The entire staff was attentive and excellent. Special shout-out goes to the Chef-owner's husband, whose warm and attentive service made our meal unforgettable. The food is absolutely spectacular! Every single dish we ordered (2 visits) were exceptional. Our first visit was for early lunch on a Saturday. We came right when they just opened around 11:30. We just wanted something light to share and "test" if we like it. The perfectly crispy fried pork egg rolls were perfectly complemented by the refreshing pickled cucumbers and nuoc mam dipping sauce. The BBQ Pork Bánh Mì, served alongside perfectly golden house-made fries was phenomenal. Per my hubs, this was the best Bánh Mì he's had, and I agree. We enjoyed our first visit so much and we decided to come back on a rainy Sunday for early dinner. We started with the calamari - lightly-breaded and was also fried to perfection--light, crispy, and delicious served with sweet chili sauce. My hubs ordered ribs - tender, beautifully charred, paired with a papaya salad and traditional sticky rice container. My dish was a standout - the Bò Lúc Lắc (Vietnamese Shaking Beef). The meat was incredibly tender, wok-tossed with onions and peppers. Dessert was unforgettable: we finished our meal with homemade Ube Tiramisu with a side of ube ice cream which was the perfect, mildly sweet end to a magnificent dinner. Pho King has instantly become one of our absolute favorite spots in Rochester. Exceptional food, beautiful atmosphere, and some of the best service you will ever find!

Head chef Nalee Phommachanh had the vision alongside owner (and sister-in-law) Vilay Sysavath. The family- run business offers a diverse and authentic Southeast Asian menu, a quarterly rotating chef specials menu with paired rotating drinks, and a full-service bar with specialty Soju-based cocktails and other Asian-fusion beverages. My wife and I were in Rochester for a thrift show and wanted to grab some lunch. We love Vietnamese, pho is one of my favorite foods, so we decided to give them a try and we were glad we did. The restaurant is small and jam packed full of tables, but we were still able to be sat and given menus immediately around 2PM on a Saturday. We decided to order a bunch of things and share them. Obviously, we got a bowl of pho, along with an order of egg rolls, a chicken lemongrass plate, and a couple of Thai teas. Our food took a bit to come, but it was pretty busy, and we were very happy with our food. Everything was delicious. The grilled chicken from the platter had awesome lemongrass flavor, the pho's broth was flavorful, the egg rolls were absolutely amazing, and the portions were huge - we had plenty to take home afterwards. Employees were friendly, prices were comparable to similar restaurants. We'd definitely go again if in the area.

I am impressed with the quality of the pho at the shop compared to the pho places in larger cities. The portion was large and I couldn't finish.

The pandan wrapped chicken wings are my favorite and their roti is perfectly crispy. The coconut rice is amazing. I always have a hard time choosing between the chicken rendang and the Kari ayam. I wasn't sure if it was reheated or due to the lack of experienced diners, who thought the redness near the bone on a pouched chicken was "raw". Not only was the chicken not served with ginger and scallion sauce, it was drizzled with soy sauce. I didn't taste the chicken flavor in the chicken rice either. Usually it's paired with the Hainese chicken. The mango chicken was too sweet, according to my husband and son. The roti canai was decent, but it had beef or pork in it. Previously, I've only had chicken in the sauce. With only 2 other seatings taken, we were sat next to a mom group of chatty 4 women. They were loud enough for our table not to bother speaking. When I go out with my girlfriends, we usually ask for a table in to corner or back, as to not bother other customers. We don't live in the area and only stopped by for a college open house.

ALL THE SUSHI!!!…read more Tokyo Japanese Restaurant is a small restaurant in a strip mall, and it is a hidden gem of a find! We are very particular about fish. Freshness, smell, texture, everything. Tokyo Japanese Restaurant checked all boxes, and then add solid prices and wonderful service, you've got regulars! I appreciated how they had gluten free soy sauce, and on their menu online they have items clearly marked gluten free. Miso soup and salad come with many meals, but neither is GF. Outside of that, I was able to eat plenty of dishes and enjoyed every bite! I actually loved the mackerel the most on our Sushi Boat! Or maybe I loved the spicy tuna the best? Or maybe the fatty salmon? I just loved it all TBH. HUGE pieces of sashimi, very nicely cut, tender, and very fresh. The rolls were nicely made, not a ton of rice, and truly, every bite made me smile. They have great lunch specials too! I also loved how the restaurant did not stink of fish - it smelled like sushi and deliciousness, and it was great! Overall, we cannot wait to go back to Tokyo Japanese Restaurant. Solid place to stop at for lunch or dinner or even takeout!
