I heard this place was originated in Arkansas...being a native I had to try it. This store was clean and the staff was very nice and pleasurable. We ordered fried pickles to snack on while we waited and they were so salty they could not be eaten. When we spoke to the manager (short lady brown hair with glasses) she said that she knew they were salty and that's just the way they come. We also ordered 3 6 piece wing meals 2 buffalo and one honey bar n que....unfortunately when I made it all the way to north Kansas City to eat them my 11 year old daughter found after reading 3 of the six they were bloody. In addition we ordered the pecan pie cheesecake that was so damn good I would walk from north kansas city to get more. Recently we went through drive thru for dinner. We ordered two wings meals and a tenders meal. When ordering the wings meals, we were asked which dipping sauces we wanted. Normally, the wings should be spun in a sauce and you can get a dipping sauce with the meal. Instead, what we found out when we were given our food, the cashier wrung up two 8 Wing Meal - DRY. I also asked and paid for Blue Cheese as a dipping sauce. So in total, we should have had 2 Honey BBQ for one of the wings meals, 2 Spicy BBQ for the other wings meal, 2 Honey BBQ for the tenders meal, and 2 blue cheese that were paid for. What we got: 2 Spicy BBQ, 2 Honey Mustard, 2 Ranch. Only one sauce comes with a meal, even though they have 17 choices, so you have to pay for a second one; one is definitely not enough. Toast that comes with the meal is just toast, not Texas toast. We saw last time we were there that you can "order ahead and skip the line" for starters this isn't true and if it is apparently they don't do that at this location. We ordered ahead on the app. We left our house we live about 15-20 minutes away. I almost didn't check this place out because the one review was so negative....big mistake! We went tonight around 5 and the place was packed. The line was through the door but moved very quick and we had our food within five minutes of getting in line. My only complaint here is with Yelp, for constraining me to only being able to vote 5 stars when I want to give it 500 stars. The place has only been open for 5 days but somehow it's running like a well oiled machine. I can't vouch for their salads because I'm 100% pure man and I don't order salads at chicken joints. What I can vouch for is the Slim Plate. I had this with fries, mac and cheese and three sauces (slims, ranch, medium buffalo). The whole meal blew me away. The chicken is the best chicken I've ever had from a fast or fast casual restaurant by far. And topped only by Stouds for chicken in general in Kansas City. The mac n cheese was fantastic, and I'm a very tough critic on that particular dish. Same with the fries and all three sauces. Bonus points for having cherry coke on tap. The value here was no joke. For $9 I was able to get 5 chicken fingers, a generous helping of fries, two pieces of Texas toast and a medium drink with free refills. Here's the icing on the cake...the general manager (Adam?) came over before we received our food and introduced himself and told us to let him know if we had any questions. I looked up this place before I went so I knew they were wings and tenders place. The food was good, the place look clean and nice, the staff were friendly, and the service was quick. The lot was pretty full on at Sat night dinner though realized it was just the lot size. Most of the tables had people but we had no issue getting a table and I didn't see anyone waiting for one. Both registers were going which helped ordering speed. A tad bigger font on the menu would have helped, but the menu isn't so extensive it will be an issue next time. I hate being the person at the front of the line not knowing what I want as much as I hate waiting on them. Tried the 3 and 3 basket to sample wings/tenders that came with fries. Would have gotten mushrooms or pickles for an up charge had I known it was an option. The food was good, though it didn't stand out as phenomenal. Just solid tenders and wings. I like my heat, so tried the inferno wings and had blue cheese dip. As expected with inferno there was more heat and less flavor. I was able to eat the 3 wings with no blue cheese, but that is more because the dip was more just large blue cheese chunks than dip. Great with the tenders bad for wings. There were 3 sweetened options for teas peach, raspberry, plain. Then unsweetened. I broke my normal rule for sugary beverages and both the raspberry and peach are solid though I preferred the peach. The sweetness did seem to vary between batches. As to service, the staff stopped by making sure we were alright and taking our baskets when we were done. The only bad thing was one of the soda machines was out of ice lengthening the time getting a drink. Last is price. There is no value menu here. My hubby and I grew up just 45 minutes away from the first Slim Chickens in Fayetteville but tried it for the first time a few days ago here at the Independence location since we moved away. I'm disappointed we didn't visit one sooner. For being newly opened we got in quick and had no problems finding a table. The service was great. Smiling faces when we entered and left as well as hello and goodbyes. I ordered the chicken and waffles. This was my first and they were very tasty. The chicken was excellent but I've had a better waffle. Although the employee that took our order said they were great so I'll have to come back and try another sometime. Brand new location in St. Louis can best be described as barely controlled chaos. I ordered online because I saw a massive pileup in the drive-thru. I showed up when the app said to. Three different employees came outside and told me three different things about my order. I soon realized that NOBODY knew what was going on. I eventually got my order - a full 10 minutes after the posted ready time. It appears that either the restaurant opened before it was fully staffed or the restaurant opened before the staff was fully trained. It was a negative experience overall. First time/last time. Maybe I made my first visit to Slim Chickens in Independence, MO on an "off day" but I do not think that this fast food chicken restaurant will, in any way, Change my Life (as it says on the web site and on the back of the tee shirts that serve as uniforms for the employees). The menu is quite limited, relying solely upon Chicken Tenders and Chicken Wings in various versions, including a couple of salads dressed with tenders, or tenders tucked inside several Wraps or as an accompaniment topping a Waffle. Both the tenders and the wings can also come in a basket with one side, Texas Toast and a medium drink. There are a choice of nearly a dozen dipping sauces, including BBQ, Sweet 'n Sour, Ranch and, the two that I chose with my Sims Plate (5 Tenders), Blue Cheese and Mango Habanero. The default side for all combos is Fries but you may swap them for any of 8 others, sometimes for an upchange. I actually love chicken, and tenders or wings can be very satisfying. But Slim Chickens' tenders were disappointing to me for a very essential reason. Good fried chicken lives or dies, for me, by the crunch of the batter making up the crust. Sadly, the breading was just not uniformly crispy and was also relatively bland. The chicken, itself, was tender and juicy, so I will probably give them a second chance. But, for now, my "favorite thing" about this restaurant chain is it's name. Any place with "Chicken" right in the name should REALLY be sure that their chicken is absolutely first rate. read more

On my way to see The Force Awakens and I needed dinner. Perfect time to try Slim Chickens. It was ok, nothing special, nothing horrible. I ordered a combination that included both wings and tenders. I liked the wings. The mango habenero sauce is delicious, but has a good kick. They forgot my blue cheese so there was nothing to tame the heat. The tenders were juicy, but there was not much for a coating. It actual reminded me of naked chicken we use to make with no batter or breading on tenders. They also had gristle. The winners of the meal, the mac and cheese, one of the best fast foodish mac and cheese sides you will find, and the dessert parfait thing. I could do without the jar gimmick and a better price though for the parfait. I washed down my meal with a peach tea. To me it was sweet tea and there was no hint of peach. Maybe a mistake, but wasn't a hit if not. Service is ok. Can be a little slow, but they cook to order. I would probably go back, but I wouldn't go out of my way. read more

Slim Chickens is another entrant into the "good fast food" market that's popped up somewhere in between the "terrible fast food" and "fast casual" markets in the US. This scene includes places like Culvers, Steak and Shake, etc, and in general the pricing, service level, atmosphere, and quality of food is going to be on the same level. Slim Chickens is a good entrant, too. The chicken is nice quality. The wings are really quite good, almost as good as BWW and perhaps a bit better than Wingstop. The chicken strips are lightly breaded and taste fresher than those at "terrible fast food" level restaurants. The fries are also good, as are the other sides I've tried including the potato salad. Most meals come with a side of texas toast as well, which is good also. The downside? It's a bit pricey for a place with a drive-through. This is true of Culvers, etc, as well. For about the same price, you could eat "fast casual" like Chipotle or Panera. But where is that line anymore? It seems to be blurring a lot nowadays, with Paneras opening up with drive throughs and upscale fast food joints like Slim Chickens offering more diverse fresh menu offerings (like the desserts on offer here.) One big upside? A nice, clean patio to eat on. Good times when it's nice out. Everything I've had here so far has been pretty good. It's a very chicken-heavy menu as you might guess. If you like chicken, and you want some chicken, and you don't want to have to cook the chicken yourself - or slaughter it yourself, for that matter - you should consider stopping by Slim Chickens. read more

The food is generally pretty good but the staff is horrible. Walked in today, and yes it's busy it's 1p on a Saturday. But there was nobody cleaning off tables. I and other customers had to clean off the tables before you could use it. We asked if someone could wipe down the table because it was sticky and was told there wasn't anything they could do it is the chemicals used to clean the tables that make them sticky.
