    5 & 5 Meal

I have been wanting to try Slim Chickens for a while but they always have such a long line. I finally stopped by on a weeknight because they are open late. The line was still long but it moved pretty quickly, especially since there are two drive thru lanes. I ordered the 5x5 combo which came with five tenders, five wings, fries, Texas toast and a drink. The mango habanero flavored wings were decent. I liked the crunch but they lacked seasoning. The tenders and fries were well seasoned and tasty. There was plenty of food for $18 and enough to save for later depending on how hungry you are. The customer service was also good. I would return but will likely stick to the tenders.

This was my first visit here by referral. I got wings lemon pepper which came with seasoned fries that was ok, they were both fried a lil to hard for me but as far as the flavor they were good. The food is made to order, my wait for mines was about 10 minutes. The meal does come with buttery texas toast which is mouth watering. For dessert i got the strawberry cheesecake that come in a canning jar for other future uses. I will definitely try again asking my wings not be fried so hard.

I've got to say my first experience here was pretty solid! I didn't expect to enjoy the food much because it was fast food, but I actually enjoyed it. I got a chicken sandwich with the chicken tossed in Korean BBQ and would definitely get that sauce again. It was a great balance of sweet and tangy. The fries were solid and the cayenne ranch. We asked for the Slim sauce but didn't get it and forgot to check before driving away. I also had the Strawberry Cheesecake Dessert Jar, which was not bad either! I mean it did the job, especially considering many places don't sell Cheesecake like that! Slim Chickens, you alright with me.

I got a takeout order of the chicken & waffles, 5 & 5 meal with honey bbq wings and a shake, a brownie, and an assortment of various sauces (honey bbq, mango habanero, slim sauce, honey mustard). The chicken & waffles meal was mixed for me: the waffles were pretty good and fluffy but for some reason the chicken tenders were dryer than usual. The 5 & 5 meal was pretty solid: the chicken tenders and honey bbq wings were decent, the Oreo shake was okay, and the fries were very average. Also The brownie was meh. Now the sauces are where it's at. If I was ranking all the sauces I tried I'd say first the honey mustard by far, second the slim sauce, third the honey bbq, and fourth the mango habanero. The most notable ones were definitely the honey mustard and the slim sauce. All in all, slim chickens was an alright fast food experience that I'd be open with having again if it was convenient.

Took out a 3 & 3 meal. Tenders and wings. Really good. Love the sauces. Enjoyed it. The Resturant was clean and they have three large screen TVs. Unusual for a fast food joint. I will come again. Give Slim a try.

My chicken sandwich was soaked in sauce and floating on a bed of fries. Solid chicken choices. Service was great. Drive through was efficient.

The family and I have been to Slim Chickens a number of times. The staff is extremely courthouse and friendly. We even had the manager come by our table once just to check on us to make sure everything was ok. The inside of the restaurant is very nice with lots of seating. They have a pretty extensive menu and my wife and I love their Slim's Salad. Our girls (8 and 11) who normally get chicken tenders have come across one of two over breaded and/or soggy pieces on our initial visits but have not had any issues since. They have a very wide variety of sauces for their sandwiches/tenders plus a number of menu items that you might find at Chick-fil-a. Overall if you were looking for a little variety, I would recommend checking them out.

    Family pack to go

Chick Fil A has some competition!! We tried this place for the first time and ordered a family pack with wings and tenders, fries and Mac and cheese. Let's start with the tenders..they were delicious and tasted very homemade. I loved the seasoning on them. We got ranch, honey mustard, garlic Parmesan sauces, and slim sauce. I would rank them in that order. I did not enjoy the slim sauce. It was missing some flavor. Next, the wings. Delicious. They could have been hotter, sauce wise but they were cooked well. The fries were basic but good and the Mac and cheese is very creamy. If you like more caked Mac and cheese, this is not for you. But the Mac and cheese was also missing some flavor. Maybe salt and pepper would have done the trick. Overall, I loved Slim Chickens and would make the 20 min drive to eat here again.

He loved the fish & chicken- well seasoned without feeling your blood pressure rise as you indulged- LOL. The sides were good. I did the smothered porkchops - WOW, best that I have had - really enjoyed the main entrée and my sides (greens, black-eye peas). Both meals came with cornbread (another option was a biscuit). I have to say the food, the Staff and the establishment has been my best taste of southern cooking in the DMV area. I ordered chicken wings (6) to go for wife & I to enjoy later. The fish (catfish and croaker) always tastes like it's been fried in grease that needs changing. There's no flavor profile in the food which is weird for a soul-food restaurant. The mixed veggies were absolutely disgusting-- gave them back. I paid $65 for fried catfish with two sides, fried croaker with two sides, a cookie and two drinks---and sadly, the only thing that was sort of worth it was the cornbread, but it tastes like it has coconut in it. I hate coconut. The item that was the most flavorful for me was the black eyed peas/hoppin John (minus the big pieces of fatty meat in them).

Not sure where I would put it in my rankings, but I enjoyed it. That banana pudding.... Whoa. It was the perfect dessert, and I would happily get it again. Period…read more I've been seeing this place all over social media, so when I found myself in the area, I had to see what the hype was about. First off, parking is easy. It's in a shopping center, so nothing stressful there, and the restaurant itself is easy to spot. Walking in, the first thing I noticed was how clean, polished, and classy everything looked. Even though it was busy, it didn't feel chaotic. The staff immediately greeted me and asked if it was my first time which I appreciated. They didn't just rush me through the line; they actually took time to explain the menu, how the bowls are built, and offered samples. That alone made the experience feel welcoming and intentional. Now let's get into the FOOD. Everything looked fresh. They have about four rice options (which is already a win), and I went with the pineapple coconut rice. For my protein, I chose grilled chicken, but they also offer shrimp, salmon, and even a mushroom option for vegetarians and honestly, the mushrooms looked so good I almost switched. For my added sides, I kept it simple because I really wanted to taste everything. Collard greens and sweet potatoes. But they also had plantains, and okra....real deal soul food options. Then you get into the fresh toppings. Slaws, carrots, pickled veggies. I kept it light. I finished my bowl with collard green pesto (which intrigued me, and I'm glad I tried it) and added an étouffée sauce over my rice... and listen!!!!! That combo? Chef's kiss. I grabbed a tropical punch juice, and just like everything else, it tasted fresh and well-made. Let me say this clearly: the food is a 10/10. If you're someone who will give Chipotle chance after chance, then you absolutely owe it to yourself to try Spice Black. 10/10. Worth your money. Worth the hype. Worth the experience.

This is still a good healthier option oppose to the many of terrible choices we have to choose from, this beats most unhealthy fast foods restaurants. For that reason I would return to try other food options. If you like chickpeas then this is your meal, Im not so it threw off the salad to me. I would have preferred chicken. Honestly, everything came together nicely as one salad, nothing was over powering. I'm just not a fan of chickpeas. They do have an option for shrimp but dont eat bottom feeders so that wasn't an option for me. My tastebuds are much different from yours so I would still give it a try. We'd never experienced in-person the yumminess & what a treat I was looking forward to incur. At this location, access is available for the persons w/disabilities as there is an elevator or the stairs - I often think this is poignant in reviews as it's often missed. We were greeted as soon as stepping off the elevator with great sounds from chatter from a private party, a live DJ (who was doing his thing - a vibe setter), a cheerful hostess & immediately after being seated by a bubbly server who made some wonderful recommendations. The decor is a space where one feels as BELONGING, with culture of art available for purchase. The restaurant has outdoor seating & private areas for availability, a full scale bar & allow me to say this - the bartender was on point with our drinks of the biscotti espresso martini (my selection) & cherry blossom lychee margarita (my son's selection), we had our choices of water & sparkling water. Where things went left & downhill from there was the venue's central air was broken, so there was a household isolating fan w/in a foot of our table which would blow our table contents about & did absolutely nothing for the cooling of the atmosphere! Our appetizer was the Honey Old Bay w/ Goddess sauce 6 Jumbo sticky wings, however they were half cooked in the manner of tough to bite off the bone. Next, our entrees were pieced out of the kitchen and served separately meaning, I was served my choices of Crispy Salmon Hash (there wasn't a taste of the spinach cream or cajun cream sauces - only heavily cheesey in attempt to soften the dryness/fried hard shredded potatoes) & an ala carte of Collard Greens. The portion of salmon could've been a bit larger and the said "hash" less dry & crispy (burnt) around the edges, as it was not one's norm of hash - simply shredded potatoes. The collard greens were not deveined or shucked (IYKYK) and very oddly seasoned salty. My son's entree of The Tail of Two Fish (fried catfish - a bit over fried) w/1 side of macaroni & cheese. Ten minutes later my son's catfish was served, wonderfully sized portions and I had to make several inquiries w/other servers, for his mac & cheese then given an excuse that, "the kitchen is behind due to a larger party being served in the back" and she was sorry - yet hid due to this lateness, instead of coming to make amends or another offering. We were now sweating profusely, over halfway finished our food, his mac & cheese arrived, again oddly seasoned salty. Tips for venue - FIX YOUR CENTRAL AIR and turn off your isolating fans (that's germy - yuck, we did it for you)! Hire more staff to cook equally for private parties and dining in guests. Serve all the party at a table at the same time. Lay off the odd tasting salty seasoning, devein as well as shuck your greens, "southern" hash is NOT shredded dried up & crispy potatoes, & portion size your salmon a bit larger. Inspect your silverware before seating guests, clean up after other guests whom have left from their tables as food remained on the floor at our neighboring tables in view (eyesore). And having to request paper napkins & more water is lacking etiquette, especially when having sticky wings while seeing the cloth napkins on our laps, or no offerings of, if other utensils were needed. All in all, we both have mixed feelings, not knowing if this is a one off, or simply just this particular peculiar location & staffing?! Be that as it may We will NOT chance it at $150, as disappointment is heavy on this experience, although my son & I had laughs for the ride home for sure!
