The Garage - The Garage Burger and Tetris Tots!

It was a weeknight, but the street we were driving up to get here was a little dark and run down. But don't let that deter you. They have a nice sized parking lot for their location. Then we walked inside and found a narrow room with a bar running the length of one long wall and counter height tables and chairs perpendicular to the opposite wall. They really jammed in as much as they could in the space that they have. The ambience was dark and moody. They were playing hard rock and the bar had a couple of regulars sitting inside. At the end of the bar at the far end, was a cubicle of a kitchen. That's where the magic happens. Their menu is simple: appetizers, burgers, and build your own burgers. That's it. We all built our own burgers and they have a LOT of options. However, the build your own may start at $9, but each topping adds to the cost. But who cares? The burgers were phenomenal! Their website clearly states, "Best burgers, ever." And they're not wrong. The burgers were juicy, flavorful, and delicious. Probably one of the best burgers I have ever had. And everything is made in this tiny area at the end of the bar. We were the only people in the place after about 20 minutes, but again, who cares. The staff were extremely friendly. Their playful banter and bickering when they cleaned up was hilarious to listen to, and they were lovely to talk to as well. One of our group wanted to pick up some Spotted Cow beer (you can't get it in Illinois) and asked about a place to get it nearby. They suggested Shenanigan's with a drive-through just a couple blocks away. We have to make another trek back. They are awesome and their burgers are great, too!

Ok, I came back to find that this establishment is open. I had to come back to get their wings…read more I had them a while ago but never posted before. I'm not going to lie they are a good size, and they have about 9 flavors. One of the best around. This place is small, but there's an upstairs hang out area. There are dart boards upstairs 4 and downstairs 2. This place is known for darts and leagues. So don't be shy if you're looking to play. When leagues are playing, they are up and downstairs. There are no pool tables at this establishment. They have a small deck upstairs as well. The bartender Nicole,I had today saw me walking in and immediately said hi from a distance, through the crowd I might add. I get to the counter, and she immediately took my drink order. Not even 4 minutes, she was back to take my food order. This is the second time I had her as the bartender. She reacted the same on my first visit. A Plus!!! Let's talk more about the establishment. Bright and very nice decor. Neat bar and counter area. Did I mention they have a large outdoor patio area? Can't wait until Summer. They also have 5 video slots and a pull tab machine. The bar area seats about 22 people. Then you have about 4 tables when there's no pool league. Overall this is a beautiful place, and I bet people have lived here for years and never stopped by because they didn't know, like me, Scottie didn't know, lol. All kinds of music are being played from the jukebox. Anything from RnB, rock, metal, and dance, for example. Play what you like. It's a little loud for my liking as I have hearing problems, but manageable. The only negative thing I can think of is parking. It's a small lot, but you can park on the street or the back by the fence, which is behind the building. This is on a dead-end street. You'll be fine, folks, so don't turn around. I had to park by the fence today. Now the food. I had the Moonshine BBQ wings, and they were fat and juicy. Lawd Lawd. I also had the Philly Cheese Egg rolls. Ummm, you will enjoy those with the beer cheese dip. I love the soft crunch the roll had. I would order both of these again. There's plenty of beer choices, only 8 on tap. Surprisingly, a good number of spirits, too I honestly give this place a 4.8 because I was able to chat with all kinds of people with no issues. Ages are mixed, so that's a plus. The atmosphere was pretty great if you asked me. People were friendlier than other bars I've been to in Kenosha. You should have a great time with this local bar. They need more reviews, that's for sure. So support your local establishments and give them your review. Yes, I will be back. Most of the building pics are from Dec 2023 when i found out they never closed, they open late, lolol. Sorry I took so long to post. I hope the next person enjoys themselves

But when I got in it went down hill from there, a friend and I showed up to eat, have a few drinks, and play a few game of darts. We got inside and it was small, cramped and just and awkward layout. When the bartender took our food order he gave my friend a lot of attitude about the question of, "can I put the chicken wing sauce on my burger", and from there it escalates with this bartender. After we got done eating I decide to pay my bill and the bartender combined my friend and my orders into just one. So just in case he forgot what I had I told home what all I ordered and his response was, "yeah yeah I know", all I wanted to make sure was I didn't get charged for something I didn't get. Then my other friend shows up and he goes to order a drink and is then asked for his ID, it shows he is of legal age limit to drink and the bartender says he's not old enough, so then my friend says I'll look up how old would you be if you're born on this date and it shows he's of legal age. We were nothing but polite about it, everyone makes mistake. But I went to tell him "I'm a bartender also" and I was met with a quick response of, "don't start that bartender shit with me", all I wanted to ask was where is the clock that shows the legal date to drink that you usually see in gas stations and other bars. Then the bartender yells at us for no reason. The bartend was a white male, probably in his 40s, short, wears glasses, with thinning brown hair. I don't care for the way me and my friends were treated and I wouldn't like anyone else to be treated like this, at this establishment.

First, our plan was to meet at 3 but we were all a little because of the flooding and detouring of our routes. So we arrived about 3:15 pm and we were seated right away. Aaron was our server, and we told him we had to leave at 4:00 pm and did he think that he could make it happened and he replied "I'll do my best". So we got our drink and food orders in, I had the crab cake sliders, they usuall come with chips but I upgraded to parm fries. My 2 friends ordered a grilled cheeseburger and she upgraded to a side salad and the third one in our group ordered a steak sandwich med rare with ff. Aaron put our food order in right away then brought our drinks, a margarita, served on the rocks, a long island ice tea nd a double gray goose with seltzer. Drinks were very good. Then our orders came up. This is were Aaron truly exceeded any service that I have had in a server. We had asked for separate checks and he brought out along with boxes so we could just pay now, and he also brought out 3 boxes. All in all, I would definately return. The atmosphere was great 'Sportsbar", food and drinks were great and the service was excellent. Aaron had us out of there by 4:05 pm

However, you can also drive North, into Wisconsin, which is just 40 minutes North. We like to shop at Pleasant Prairie Outlet and after shopping for about five (5) hours, you will get really hungry. Hence, we almost always visit Tenuta's because there isn't quite anything like it by me. But that's a different review... I say all that to say, after getting Italian meatballs, cookies, and Cannolis from Tenuta's, you will immediately notice Ron's Place, right across the street!! They have a local and dedicated following. Yes, you will see Green Bay Packers decorations and people in Packers clothing, gasp!! But!! Their burgers are incredible and so are the cheese curds. They are also known for their Long Island teas but it's kinda early for me when I come here. Check out my pics - I always get the cheese curds, chicken strips, I've switched it up from time to time with my burger selection. Today, we got the extreme burger and it's definitely shareable, it's a gigantic double patty cheeseburger (I selected American cheese). Great service, cool & local Vibes, diners are usually talking shop, the people sitting next to you will be catching up and talkin about Jack and Diane. You can look directly into the open kitchen and see them preparing the great plates of food. Look at the pics on the wall and you will see a pic of McMahon in Packer uniform - the Packers won the Super Bowl that year...sigh...

The bar is a tad small so it can get busy in there pretty quickly. We got a table right at the main entrance and we were served promptly and pleasantly. I got help with ordering, which can be common for first timers, but I got the hang of it pretty quickly. They have a nice tap list so getting a cold, refreshing beer was a must! My one critique if you will, the fries were limp.. not soggy but definitely not crispy. I didn't even bother finishing them, but the burger was filling enough that it didn't matter much. If I am in the area, I would stop here again and try a different burger, because they all looked so dang good!!

The only parking option I saw was on the street. Inside it's attractive with its own nautical character. Its food menu is burger centric and is kind of complicated to figure out. You complete a form that itemizes the kind of burger, fries, etc that you want. Even my waitress tried to help me and she got confused. Ha! I finally ordered a bowl of their beer cheese soup to start for $10.45. I then added an 8 oz grass fed beef burger with hand cut fresh fries for another $12.45. Yes, it was more food than I needed but I wanted to try the beer cheese soup which was delivered first with 4 pieces of sourdough bread. The soup was delicious being rich in cheesy flavor with cheese strings and bacon bits on top. It was a full bodied flavor soup and with the bread I could have made a meal of just this. After finishing the soup, the burger and fries appeared. It was a hearty and very good tasting burger on a quality bread bun. Also the fries were very good tasting with a good potato flavor. I couldn't finish it all but I wanted to. With a drink and tax it was about $28 before tip. I'm glad I had lunch here.
