Our room was not like the photos (definitely not fully remodeled) or luxurious. The bathroom had new fixtures and vanity but the tub was still old and kind of grimy. The window screen in the bathroom was ancient and hard to open and there were some sort of seeds or insect eggs all over the windowsill there. There were also dead flies in the front window, which could have used a wipe down. We had a 2 queen room and one bad was extremely hard and one was very soft. There were only 3 pillows on each bed so someone only had 1 pillow - not ideal with kids. Two of the towels in the bathroom were nice and 2 were pretty raggedy and thin. The size of the room was fine (only room for 1 small table, no chairs) but there was no additional deadbolt or slide latch on the door and that didn't feel safe, especially after someone tried to put a code into our door at about 11:00 one night. This motel is somewhat cute, cozy and quiet but still seems a bit run down. However, after driving around Luray, I'd venture to say it's the nicest of the roadside motels we saw. It has beautiful views of the Shenandoah's and it's very convenient to town and the park. It wasn't awful but wasn't what we expected. The manager Judy was very nice when she called to confirm our reservation and when I let her know the room smelled smoky. Be aware that not all rooms look like the photo on the website.

Happy hour was fun especially if there are other guests. Sitting at their little bar or sitting on the grand front porch just chilling is great. And their breakfasts are amazing and made fresh. My wife and I travel the world, and this is one of the most charming, relaxing, and accomodating places we have stayed. Downtown Front Royal with all of its eateries is within walking distance. The view of the mountains and the Shenandoah National Park are amazing. I recommend Woodward Hosue for anyone visiting Front Royal or the Shenandoah National Park. Michael H. Richmond, VA

The place is so lovely and comfortable and welcoming- like outspread arms. The hosts are good-natured, kind and so generous with their time. Just spent a phenomenal weekend here at the Lackawanna and was so sad when I had to leave. The house is cozy and beautiful. The rooms spacious and inviting. The breakfast was yummers and the owners went above and beyond as hosts for the weekend. We stayed in the Charles Suite which boasts a private bathroom and separate room. Perfect for a couple traveling with child or a group having that 3rd wheel. Highly recommend. The B&B is large but only holds 3 rooms making breakfast time quaint. Phil and Sandy, the owners, were fabulous hosts. We actually found a stray cat and they helped us take her home. My dress broke and Sandy sewed up my straps. It was probably the best 5 star service I have had a hotel. There is also a beautiful garden/backyard area, pool, firepit, relaxing porch, lovely sitting room, wine bar, water bar and basically anything you want from the kitchen. By far, one of the most relaxing and awesome stays I've had on a vacation. Highly recommend. Circling back to things to do in Front Royal, here is what we did: Dinosaur Land, Wine Tasting @ Wineries (take a cab from Yellow Cab. Super cheap!), Horseback riding, Skyline Drive, Skyline Caverns, Town festivals, Civil War trails, dinner at Wine and Duck. PLENTY to do.

The bed was one of the most comfortable we've ever slept on. The linen were 500 count sheets. The bath had Egyptian cotton towels and robes. The food was good. Our hosts accommodated our being vegetarians nicely. The building is a registered historical place. Built in 1869 by an industrialist from Scranton, PA, it has an interesting story. Phil and Sandra renovated the building over the past 10 years and have a picture album to share that experience and the history of the house. Visiting Front Royal in February limits the activities one can get involved with but we found two good used book stores (Royal Oak and Page Master) to browse through, and a good local restaurant (Element) for dinner. In addition, Main Street has a number of interesting shops and eateries to visit. All in all, we enjoyed our stay and the friendly owners, and would recommend this business to others.

The meaty mains can be a hit or miss. Loved the steak, but found that some of the chicken and fish were overcooked. Service was absolutely amazing.
