Attended a multi-day conference at Airlie, and this review is mainly focused on the food. Every meal (breakfast, lunch, dinner) is buffet-style. They always have fresh veggies, a salad bar with rotating ingredients, a soup, and several desserts in addition to the main entrees. They have a vegan/vegetarian main in addition to mains that include meat. Honestly, the side dishes and veggies are a hit everytime. I found myself going back for more. The meaty mains can be a hit or miss. Loved the steak, but found that some of the chicken and fish were overcooked. Service was absolutely amazing. Multiple wait staff who come around asking for your drink order and they are quick with additional requests, should you have any. We also had a bonfire night complete with the s'mores package. They give you quality ingredients that's for sure, because those were some of the best s'mores I've ever had! read more

I've been attending a 4 day training conference at Airlie on and off for 20 years. It's always amazing. The food is exceptional. I love that they grow so much on their land and use such fresh ingredients. The employees are incredibly helpful and nice. The buildings and rooms quaint and nice. The property is truly a treasure. I was sad to see only one swan there this year. I'm not sure if the others passed away but I'd think they would at least have a pair and hope the swan isn't lonely. I saw so much beautiful wildlife and I always feel so much more peaceful when I'm on this property. I don't know if I'll make it back to another conference here but I hope this wasn't my last one because I've cherished the moments! If it is, I hope to just book a trip to visit in the future! Thanks for the beautiful memories Airlie! read more

We were visiting our family during the Easter weekend. I have been here several times prior with my local family including the Easter and Mother's Day Brunches, when we did enjoy our dining experiences in the past. I reserved the 12 PM Sunday Easter Lunch this year for my family of nine for $890.40, including seven adults and two elementary school children or a total of nine. It was raining quite heavily during our drive down. Luckily when we arrived a little before noon the rain had changed to a light drizzle. Needless to say the weather was not good on Easter Sunday. We parked our vehicle. The atrium was a short walk from the parking lot. When we checked into the atrium entrance we were immediately directed to our table for nine. Luckily they had some coat racks so we could hang our rain gear. The bar was set up outside the pavilion. Six fluted champagne drinks paired with peach, pear and pomegranate were available for $12 each. I enjoyed my two glasses of Roget champagne for $12 each. Complimentary canned carbonated drinks were provided to our two elementary school children. The prime rib was decent, but the lollipop lamb chops were too tough. My other family members also complained about the tough lollipop lamb chops. I only ate one. I enjoyed the snow crab claws the most. My cupcake and small mousse were acceptable. We departed before the next 2 PM lunch reservations arrived. The restrooms are located outside of the atrium up a staircase, which was not convenient. Overall our family of nine and I did not think that this Easter Day lunch was not worth $100 per person excluding alcohol. We will not return here for either Easter or Mother's Day brunch/lunch in the future. Also because of the poor rainy weather an egg hunt was not included. I found another yelper Brandon, who attended the same lunch as my family. Brandon immediately posted a 1 star negative yelp review. Please read it for another customer's perspective of the same event. I found that reviews ranged from 1 to 5 stars so this place is not consistent in ratings. The variation in ratings seems to be due to whether you attended only a conference/housing event or other non-housing event such as Easter Brunch/Lunch. You can judge for yourself by reading all reviews and deciding if you want to visit here for an event. Don't get me wrong, but the natural grounds and pond here are quite nice. That is worth your visit. My review is mainly regarding the Sunday Easter Lunch. read more

Avoid Airlie's Easter Brunch. Truly awful. For $100 a person, you get budget hotel quality food that is mostly unappetizing, limited choices for kids, an eyeful of staff pulling drinks from Costco pallets of the small Tropicana juices, bad coffee, and wait staff that do not speak enough English to understand basic questions. When the staff brought the coffee carafe, I asked if they had any espresso drinks. The woman looked confused, and motioned to pour drip coffee. I tried again to ask if they had Americanos, Cappuccinos, etc. She tried again to motion pouring the drip coffee. I could tell she didn't understand the words, so I gave up and had the drip coffee. Nothing wrong with that, except for $100 a person or $500 for our table, that plus the budget hotel food had us all questioning what was going on. Then I tried to ask for the bathroom to another staff member and it went equally as poorly. I gave up again and walked around until I found it myself. If you spend $500 on a meal and you get what appeared to be a shoddily thrown together and unappetizing spread from Costco items (even the extra priced alcoholic drinks were made with the cheapest ingredients Airlie could get away with), no bueno. I couldn't tell if they were hurting budget wise and charged a premium for the cheapest product and labor to turn a profit, or if it was just badly managed, but five adults all agreed to never attend brunch here again. read more

I stayed at the Airlie for work-related meetings for a few days. I can't comment on the price of our experience, but it was a really good experience. The grounds are beautiful, scenic and well maintained. I averaged at least 12k steps a day just from exploring the grounds. The staff were friendly and accomodating. We had our meals in their dining room which prepared pretty good meals buffet style with a variety of different options, and different soups and desserts each time. I think a lot of their vegetables were grown on site, so they were really fresh, I'm not sure if I've even as healthy since. Their rooms are spread out in different buildings, I think I stayed at the Lodge. The rooms were clean, decent sized with standard amenities like a coffee machine. There are flashlight lanterns for walking at night as well as bikes you can use to get around the grounds. Wifi on the grounds was pretty good. During our stay, we got an archery lesson which was pretty fun, and we used an outdoor firepit for making S'mores. The place seemed to have a few different lakes/bodies of water. It was really nice to be out in the nature in the middle of different meetings. read more

I didn't expect the food to be as good as it was, based on the pictures, but I asked the server what she recommended and she said, hands-down, the burger. She was 100% correct. My friend and I each ordered a burger and it was delicious for both of us. I can't speak to the other options, but this was a win for sure. We also walked the property which was really beautiful. Parking is plentiful but very tricky so just keep driving until you see the lake on the left and keep going until you hit the restaurant. Pass the restaurant and drive toward the back parking lot. Not easy to find, but the parking is definitely abundant. read more

The property is beautiful. The food provided at the wedding was also really good. The food at the steakhouse was great. Everyone was really kind and friendly and you felt welcomed. The only issue is housekeeping. My room was full of hair and was not cleaned well at all. I had several other family members bring up the same issue with their rooms. One building didn't have hot water for a couple of hours so I had to let the bride and groom use my shower to get ready. If they could solve the overall conditions of the room, then it would be perfect read more

We visited for a wedding this weekend, and it was a lovely venue! Given there's a lot that goes into the wedding planning process, I don't know which can be attributed to Airlie specifically or the wedding planners / other vendors, but I'll say that the venue itself is very nice. The grounds are gorgeous with a big lake too. The separate gazebo-like dining space was a nice venue that held a lot of tables. read more

I booked a weekend at the Airlie when they were having a sale on their room rates. I was hoping for a quiet, relaxin, weekend and we definitely got that. The great! : The staff was top notch. Everyone was very knowledgeable about the property and the area and were very generous answering questions we had. The grounds are beautiful. The OK: while there are paved paths making it easy to get from one place to another, sometimes the paths are steep so if you have a tricky ankle/knee you might want to bring a brace and definitely some Advil. Semi related- I kind of wish there was more seating just randomly on the property. It would have been nice, for example to sit near the lake closest to the smoke house. There are 2 picnic tables near-ish but i think one is more zoned for the people staying at the farmhouse cottage. read more

Went to Airlie for some work and had to snap a few photos of this beautiful place. We were there for a wedding and this place was so beautiful and peaceful that I would love to book a stay here one day for get away from the busy life. There are many beautiful spots for photography as well. At night they light up the lights in the garden if you want to go for a stroll and they also have a bonfire place as well. Very peaceful and relaxing. The staff are very helpful and super friendly during our time there! They have a place to set up for weddings outdoor that will create beautiful memories. The only con I see is that it might be a bit dark in certain areas and if you are planning on leaving at night, the road could be a bit dark! read more

Everything about the Airlie is slightly off. The signage around the grounds is not good and my friends and I started the weekend off by sending many text messages trying to figure out where to check in, where to park, and where our room was. My room didn't have a mini fridge, the others I was with did have a fridge in their room. Half of the people I went with had in room coffee makers that didn't work. Food at Harry's was fine, pool was fine, but no housekeeping and the walls were so thin I could every word spoken outside my door and every step the person above me took. I wouldn't stay here again and think it was expensive for what you get, a mediocre room in a nice country estate. read more

We went for a work retreat and it was fantastic. From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed. The customer service was great. I stayed in the Carriage House and it was clean and the bed was comfy. I appreciated their values of sustainability. We rented their meeting room and they consistently stocked food and drinks. Delicious green juices and yogurts and all kinds of snacks. The meals were also scrumptious. We had every meal there and were pleasantly surprised to learn that the veggies and meat were locally sourced from their own farm or nearby farms. The grounds were so gorgeous - they were kept clean and well maintained. Very lush and green. We enjoyed touring their herb garden and they let you pick lavender and take it home. They have have solar panels and are committed to green practices. They also have a large farm on campus that provides food for guests and for local food pantries. Excellent service from the waitstaff and bartender and all the people who worked at the hotel. We would come back again and highly recommend this place to organizations or companies looking to hold a rejuvenating retreat. read more

BUYER BEWARE If you're attending a wedding under a block rate make sure your AAA card is not somehow in the online reservation request. I ended up paying more than $100 over two nights. Airlie wouldn't even consider changing it for me. Room block in June and an October wedding. Front desk says the room block must have been sold out, I 100% know that to be false. Plus we got a very small room, again AAA related I'm sure, thinking they were giving a big discount. Like I said, BUYER BEWARE. Wedding venue was great though. read more

Came here for a weekend for a wedding. During my stay, I kept a running list of pros and cons. Instead of having it all out, find it below! Pros: Beautiful grounds Friendly staff Harry's Bar Nice enough pool Renovated rooms Dog friendly Food - really good, like really good. The rehearsal dinner and wedding food was possibly the best I've ever eaten. Close to town Cons: Breakfast buffet - not enough food for the amount to pay Things close early - not a fun vibe No mini fridge in the rooms Small rooms Can hear everything from room The ground are not well lit My summary - was a great weekend, lots of good things about this place. I wouldn't choose to stay here if not for the wedding and I wouldn't bring my child, unless I was in a cottage. read more

If you don't have a car it's tough to be here. Harry's restaurant is not open on Sunday nights, Mondays or Tuesdays. I was here with my husband for a conference that kept him busy till after 8 pm. I had to order from Uber Eats until Wednesday. Staff was not particularly nice at all except for a gentleman who asked if I needed a ride when I was walking far in the property and one nice bartender. I asked the front desk if they had a microwave I could use the the woman said there were none only to find out depending on where your room is there are microwaves. The property is beautiful however I would not stay here again...the house cleaning staff were very nice and I thank them...Grounds are beautiful... read more

My friend just recently got married here, and I have to say that I am so jealous, I wish I had gotten married here first. This place is so lush and dreamy, everything my Pinterest board wishes my wedding to be. I came a little late, and I'm embarrassed to say that my bf and I circled the place twice to try and find where the ceremony was being held, but the staff was so kind and friendly, that two ladies walked with me through the gardens to find the rest of the wedding party. Fast forward to food, while the bridal party was out and about taking photos, we had cocktail hour at the pavilion. This included drinks at the bar, and appetizers offered by staff. It was all so yummy, and the staff was professional and super friendly! We had a three course dinner: local crab bisque, caesar salad, and our choice of entree: I had the half lobster and steak. The soup was a bit salty, but everything else was on point with flavors and presentation. Seriously guys, I'm not lying when I say that I want my wedding here. read more

We chose Airlie for the Ceremony and Reception of my daughter's Wedding on 9/22/2024. Kristy was amazing to work with! Due to the weather, and desperately wanting the Ceremony outside in the Formal Gardens, we changed the Arbor and seating arrangements 3 times, including 4 hours before the Ceremony start time, and Kristy was extremely accommodating! The Reception was in the Pavilion, and the service during the Cocktail Hour and Dinner was phenomenal! The servers were amazing! There was nothing ourselves or our Guests asked for, or wanted, that the servers did not take care of. Kristy was so cooperative and accommodating with our menus, set-ups, and questions. Would Highly Recommend! read more

My husband and I wanted a quick weekend getaway for Memorial Day Weekend. We chose a package that included a room for two, breakfast in the morning, and a $75 credit to be used within the premises (read: restaurant, archery, massage, etc). The grounds are lovely. There's lush greenery as you drive in, it's quiet and peaceful, and there's lots to do. We spent half of our day relaxing by the pool, and the other half just walking around. My husband got to fish for a little bit. We ordered drinks from Harry's (the bar and restaurant in the property) and sat outside. A big plus is that our room was ready before the 3:00 PM check-in time. Service at the front desk was good and accommodating. Our room in the Carriage House was sparkling clean and although on the smaller side, was cozy and just what we needed. The only downside to our stay is that it didn't deliver on a restful night. We desperately wanted a getaway from the city and all the hustle and bustle - and right around midnight the Carriage House got rowdy. Grown men screaming looking for their friends, inebriated, without a care for other people trying to sleep after a long day exploring. The hallway and the rooms aren't carpeted, and the walls are pretty thin. You can even hear people's footsteps echoing down the hall, enough to wake you from your sleep. It's a popular wedding destination, so while we knew we'd get a little bit of the after party shenanigans, we didn't expect it to be THAT loud. So we barely really slept, until maybe around 3. Breakfast was pretty good, standard breakfast buffet fare. I'd love to come back, the only thing holding me back being that I actually would like a chance to sleep peacefully in the night. read more

Airlie - A nice spot to relax, drink a beer, read a book - Hotels Near Me - Warrenton, Virginia

Our DC-based management team has held multiple off-site "retreats" at Airlie, and it's been an ideal destination for our purposes. What we like about Airlie: 1) Terrific meeting space. Open, bright and airy, conducive to collaboration, appropriate amenities for being productive. 2) Close to DC. Less than 1 hour drive from most of the metro area. 3) Great value. Weekday rates including all food and meeting facilities. 4) Good, fresh food, plenty of healthy and delicious options. 5) Onsite "pub" that is as great as if you'd rented out a private bar for the evening. If one of your goals for going offsite is to "bond" in the evenings, this is an awesome benefit. What's not so hot: 1) Many of the rooms have not been renovated in a long time and could really use an update. The beds and the bathrooms are going to be a disappointment for anybody looking for a upscale experience. 2) The food is good but it is a shared buffet experience in the dining room. In my experience the meals that were specially ordered for our group were very weak compared to the common meals served buffet style in the dining room. read more

Within an hours drive of DC, Airlie is reasonably accessible for someone who wants a mini getaway. However, the grounds are more beautiful than the interior areas. Gorgeous gardens, and sprawling woodlands create this place. And because of its external beauty, it is a favorite destination for weddings. The check-in area is extremely pretty, and very welcoming. They provide homemade cookies, and refreshing infused water. However, the actual areas in which to stay are very mediocre. Away from the main check in center, there are little buildings where one is given a room. These little buildings are scattered all over the premises, but some of them are actually across the road, and not that easy to find with the map that they give! We were staying at "the stable " which requires you to drive off the premises, across the road up 605. The stable is lackluster, and the room that we had smelled extremely musty. So musty, that even the cleaners realized it and had put in an air purifier, which felt like it was simply re-circulating more musty cold air! Several bugs have found their way into the room, and I think they came in each time we open the door. Twice I had to remove stink bugs, and at one point, a worm from the bathroom floor. There is little attention paid by the hotel staff to the reservations. eg we were two people in the room, and yet there was only one coffee cup in the coffee station. Regarding food, the Whistling Swan pub has very good food, but the service could do with a little bit of care and some more friendliness. I asked for hot water for tea, and what I was given, was a cup of hot with coffee grounds in it - and a tea bag. The food we ordered, was actually presented to us and take out bags - I think they prepare it off premises, and deliver it into the pub. Odd. I think I might visit Airlie to enjoy the exterior, but probably would not stay there. read more

My husband was there for a three day conference the air-conditioning did not work two out of the three days; they disregarded his wake up call and the phones were not working so I couldn't be transferred to him. A gorgeous, unbeatable wedding venue and a great getaway with many scenic spots for photos and memories.

When I found out that the wedding I was invited to was in Northern Virginia, I expected to be stuck in 95 traffic for 4 hours to sit a lackluster, cookie-cutter banquet hall. Airlie proved me wrong - completely wrong. Tucked away in Warrenton, Airlie is more so a wedding destination than a luxury hotel experience. I stayed at the Stables, a building about a 5 minutes drive from the main house. The rooms themselves were a little dated, but had a remodeled bathroom. Weirdly enough, their shower built-in was extremely tiny (and this is coming from someone who is a whopping 5'1). Some great traits about Airlie are that they have free 24/7 shuttle service, free wifi, complimentary breakfast for 2 guests in a great dining room lined with windows that display lush gardens. Speaking of gardens, the grounds were astonishing! They have plenty of free rental bikes on site and paved roads in-between acres of greenery. It took about 20 minutes to bike around the grounds and they were 20 minutes of pure serenity. I felt like I was transported some countryside in France. Heads up: bike frames are rather large so they won't be suitable for children. The wedding was located at the pavilion, which looks like a large indoor gazebo. The structure and décor were very elegant and modern - hands down, the perfect space for a wedding. read more

2 stars because the grounds are 5 stars. Meeting room was a 4. Food was 2 stars (over cooked frequently). The rooms are unacceptable. Stayed in the pool house and my shower wasn't 18" square! I've said it before: I wish Yelp allowed half stars. I would give Airlie 3.5 but it was good enough that I will round up instead of down. We just got back from a two night stay while attending a wedding. We arrived late Friday afternoon and checked out Sunday morning. The drive and approach to Airlie is amazing. It's almost like it was preparing you for how nice the property is. The grounds are very beautiful and it is very peaceful and quiet. Our check in was smooth and the young ladies at the front desk were very friendly and informative. That set the tone for the service we received. Everyone was genuinely friendly, polite, and helpful. We had a first floor room in The Lodge and the room was modern and comfortable. It wasn't dated at all. I read about some complaints about bugs in the room. We didn't see any but they did have a helpful little card explaining that stink bugs are native to the area and although they try to keep them out, some do make their way in. I thought that was a considerate touch. The Lodge had a very nice common area where hubby and I used to read (me) and get some work done (him). We attended an event in a tent behind the Smokehouse on Friday night and it was pleasant but not anything out of this world. But that could have been because of what the bridge and groom chose to serve--meat and cheese platters and a popcorn bar that didn't seem very appealing. It just wasn't presented in any way that was special. We had breakfast in the main house both days and it was delicious. I had biscuits and gravy (it was fresher and better the second day but that could be because we got there much earlier than the day before). There was also French toast, bacon, sausage patties (soooo good) and scrambled eggs (I didn't try those). Again the service was very good. The wedding we attended was at 5pm on Saturday. The ceremony was in the formal gardens but sadly it was rainy all day so it was under a tent. But that isn't anybody's fault. It was actually rainy for almost out entire stay and there were large umbrellas EVERYWHERE. It was an attentive detail. The cocktail hour and reception were in the octagonal pavilion with a porch surrounding it. The passed hors d'ouvres were good for the most part although some of them were a little on the cold side. It was a little on the cool side so maybe it couldn't be helped. One gripe, I feel like they were a little stingy with the pours for the mixed drinks. Maybe it's their policy to keep things from getting crazy or unsafe. The food the bride and groom chose was pretty good. I ordered the chicken and hubby had the surf and turf. My chicken wasn't bad. Not anything out of this world, but I've also had much worse. The potato and celery root purée was delicious. I had a bite of my aunt's filet and it was very tender and flavorful. One complaint: they were VERY stingy with the cake servings. My cousin was the mother of the bride and she complained to them about the minuscule cake slices so it wasn't just me. The cake wasn't bad although the frosting was a little bit too sweet. Oh and one more thing: they have free shuttles that take you around to different areas on the grounds. The day of the wedding they sent a golf cart and it had a clear zippered cover that was very useful since it was cool and rainy. Another night they sent a Suburban. Both times the drivers were very courteous. Overall we had a very pleasant stay. We were not able to enjoy any activities because of the weather so I can't speak to that. Although some of my cousins did archery and they had a lot of fun. read more

Airlie is always going to have a special place in my heart after I got married to my wife there last October. I will first say that the grounds are beautiful and that alone was enough for us to decide on having our ceremony there at the gardens. We were lucky that a good bit of the flowers were still in bloom in early October and the weather was perfect. The day of staff were wonderful and very helpful. They took care of everything we needed and we really didn't need to ask for much since everything had been planned in advance with their on site coordinator who worked with us and our wedding planner to make sure everything was set. The food was excellent as well. Our guests really enjoyed the offering of apps, starters and mains that we selected. We did a tasting in advance and it was kinda hard to cross a couple things off as I really liked most of it. The dessert and snack bar at the end of the night was great as well and a perfect end to drinks and dancing for guests. I was happy with our room as well. They had cottages as well for larger parties but they did fill up fast as there was other events going on at Airlie that weekend. The downstairs restaurant and bar was good and I visited it multiple times that weekend with friends and family. Overall I had a very good experience and I'm looking forward to going back after a year. read more

Rented here. I thought it was $219, but turned out to be $284 for a king bed. The pictures online were beautiful. The place itself is old and run down. The staff is very nice. The room looked like a college dorm room. It was dirty. They offered us a second room, which had a queen instead. Still the same crappy room type but this time the heater did not work. This place is a perfect short getaway or staycation. It's got a beautiful outdoor property. I went for a run in the morning and it was so refreshing and enjoyable. The formal garden is so beautiful I can't stop staring at it. We went there for a team retreat. We still can't stop talking about the food. The food/drink package in conference room is really good. The restaurant food is even more amazing. There were so much food and they taste delicious. The lodging was the least exciting part. The room is generally old. The bathroom didn't have any place to hold my toiletries and the shower water is lukewarm. I would go back there again for a staycation and outdoor scenery! read more

I have mixed feelings about the Arlie B&B. My fiancé booked a night there to celebrate our engagement and bought the One Night Weekend Getaway package, which came with wine, snacks, and breakfast the next morning. The property was beautiful and when we got to our room at the lodge, we were pleased that it was clean and comfortable. We were a little less pleased when we found a huge spider hanging out on the bed. I recognized that we were in the woods and tried to stay calm. We checked the rest of the bed and pillows thoroughly, and were okay to sleep there. When we arrived, we were supposed to have snacks and wine waiting for us in the room. It took three phone calls to the front desk and about two hours before anyone dropped off our items. When they finally arrived, we received a bottle of subpar Chilean wine (weird because we were in the heart of wine country and expected something local), two bags of chips, and an apple. Yes, one apple. To share? So strange. I'm not sure why we paid extra for this. We also sent an email ahead of our visit indicating that we had a nut allergy and they didn't appear to have kept this on record. The gentleman who dropped off our wine said that it took so long, because they were checking the allergy info. I would've expected a little prior planning. We walked across the beautiful property that evening and were excited to have dinner and drinks at the Pub. We arrived to find it closed, which was disappointing. After a long day, we were looking forward to getting some sleep. A little after midnight a wild group of people came into the building, hooting and hollering, waking us up. We let it go for a few minutes and then tried to call the 24 hour front desk, to report a noise complaint. We called twice and no one answered. So it was a rough night, as these folks were partying in the lodge lobby for quite some time. Breakfast in the Arlie House was delicious and I was excited to try the omelette station. The coffee however was ice cold, which was frustrating after a night of little sleep. All in all, it was a beautiful place to stay, but the customer service and amenities left little to be desired. I'm not sure we received the value that was paid for in purchasing the whole package. read more

When I asked to switch rooms their response "that is part of our available inventory, we do not have anything available right now. I went to Airlie for a conference. It's amazing to see that after driving an hour from inside the beltway you can find some peace and tranquility. It's a very beautiful and peaceful place and after spending some time here I even thought it would be a great getaway/staycation for my husband and I should the prices be just right. The conference picked the right place to have our meetings because for the entire week I was there I never ran out of coffee or sugar. The food was great and the service was outstanding. We were treated so well by our waitress who went out of her way to make sure we were comfortable and had all of what we needed. I feel terrible for not being able to get her name as she really deserves a shoutout, but I'm confident that her name will pop up here because she truly is an angel. The accommodations were fine. It was rather interesting to read about the historic hotels because I had never been in one and they've done quite a bit to keep the place updated. I've spent 3 days waking up before sunrise to workout at the gym area and seeing the misty clouds rise over the archery area was so relaxing. I thoroughly enjoyed my time but I will certainly be the one to look into staying there for a getaway for me and my husband. read more

My wife and I stayed here for our 18th anniversary. Huge mistake. The room was hot and the ac didn't work. The walls were thin and we could hear everything. The service at breakfast was atrocious. They were slow, unorganized and forgetful. The food was good but probably not for the price. It took 20 minutes and asking 4 times to get coffee. The restaurant Harry's that was part of the package we got was oK but for the price ok isn't good enough. The linguine was the mushiest and most bland dish I have had in a while. The manager did remove the charge and comped a desert so cudos to him. A lot of the equipment in the game room is broken or missing pieces. For a destination location it was very lacking. All in all it put a huge damper on our anniversary and I could not recommend this place to anyone. read more

I was not pleased with the idea of driving out to Warrenton VA at 6am on a Saturday morning. I had no idea where exactly Warrenton was, and I wanted no part of it. So as my fellow native-Atlantan coworker and I drove along 66 in the wee morning hours, scanning every exit sign for a Chick-fil-A and the scrumptious chicken biscuits they hold (ps, there IS NOT a chick-fil-a on your way to warrenton), we were surprised to see our moods pick up as we made our way well out in to the country. Driving in to the Airlie center was beautiful: white fences, green fields, brown cows, and the prettiest wild daylilies growing along the side of the road. As we wound along the single lane road, our blood pressure dropped, we turned the music down, and just enjoyed the scenery. It's a truly beautiful setting. The main house on the Airlie property is beautiful, with a large dining room and several various-sized conference rooms. The dining room looks out over the property's pond, complete with a pair of swans paddling about. Other conference rooms are located in various areas of the property, giving atttendees the chance to walk around a bit between meetings. The food was fantastic, with a strong focus on local and free range options. For breakfast we were served cheese biscuits with sundried tomato gravy, vegetable frittata, applewood smoked bacon, hash browns with peppers and onions. Lunch included free range chicken, ham hocks, fruit soup, various quiches, pizza with blue cheese, antipasto trays, and veal. Definitely not your typical conference food. Although I didn't stay at Airlie overnight, I heard great things about the lodgings as well as the Pub that is on "campus." The full day spent on Airlie's campus was a surprisingly welcome outing from the city. I wish I had a chance to enjoy my surroundings more instead of being stuck in breakout sessions, but the large windows at least helped! read more

Came here for a 4-day company retreat and had a fantastic time. I didn't organize the trip so I can't speak to how enjoyable it might be to deal with the Airlie managers, but as a participant I couldn't have asked for a better location. Physically, Airlie sits on sprawling, beautiful colonial grounds with lots of water (lake? moat? ponds?), stables and tack rooms converted into lodges and conference centers, and geese and swans roaming around the premises. Yum! (J/k. Great setting for a scavenger hunt though.) There is a swimming pool, bar, tennis courts, bikes, and most importantly a karaoke machine. They also seem quite committed to being environmentally friendly and provide thoughtfully-designed toiletries, among other things. Okay so let's get down to the main attraction: The food is incredible, California-style cuisine. At every meal there were a mind-boggling number of selections and I always wished I could eat more of the food in every roaster. Lots of interesting and delicious salads (like fig, grapefruit, beets, gem lettuce etc.) and at least 2 different freshly-baked desserts per meal (e.g. strawberry rhubarb pie, coconut cream cake). Apparently they source their produce from some nearby organic farm. I also had some amazing mahi-mahi tacos, creamy ravioli, crispy lentil cakes, scrumptious hot vegetable broths and chilled strawberry mint soups and good ol' roast chicken there. God I miss those meals already. The only thing i could possibly complain about is that at the barbeque night there were no veggie burgers / protein options for the vegetarians. Staff are friendly and fun, especially the bartenders ;) However, the servers were almost superhumanly-efficient with whisking away my dishes before I was done eating. But that's understandable -- I eat really, reeeally slowly. I understand that Airlie is also a really significant place when it comes to the civil rights movement. From their website, "Airlie was considered the only place south of the Mason-Dixon line that would host an integrated gathering when the NAACP LDF chose to hold their first Annual Civil Rights Conference there." MLK Jr. and his crew freaking met here to organize one of their most historic campaigns. I mean, what more can i say? *Mic drop* read more
