Went to Airlie for some work and had to snap a few photos of this beautiful place. We were there for a wedding and this place was so beautiful and peaceful that I would love to book a stay here one day for get away from the busy life. There are many beautiful spots for photography as well. At night they light up the lights in the garden if you want to go for a stroll and they also have a bonfire place as well. Very peaceful and relaxing. The staff are very helpful and super friendly during our time there! They have a place to set up for weddings outdoor that will create beautiful memories. The only con I see is that it might be a bit dark in certain areas and if you are planning on leaving at night, the road could be a bit dark!

We went for a work retreat and it was fantastic. From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed. The customer service was great. I stayed in the Carriage House and it was clean and the bed was comfy. I appreciated their values of sustainability. We rented their meeting room and they consistently stocked food and drinks. Delicious green juices and yogurts and all kinds of snacks. The meals were also scrumptious. We had every meal there and were pleasantly surprised to learn that the veggies and meat were locally sourced from their own farm or nearby farms. The grounds were so gorgeous - they were kept clean and well maintained. Very lush and green. We enjoyed touring their herb garden and they let you pick lavender and take it home. They have have solar panels and are committed to green practices. They also have a large farm on campus that provides food for guests and for local food pantries. Excellent service from the waitstaff and bartender and all the people who worked at the hotel. We would come back again and highly recommend this place to organizations or companies looking to hold a rejuvenating retreat.

I'm giving a 5 star rating.... I was booked her for work. Pros: beautiful property Great location Amazing staff Restaurant on site Great pricing Beautiful renovated room Amazing conference space Cons: -Restaurant staff members coughing excessively . Then she was handling take out good. Please send sick employees home. -Lodge room was a little on the dirty side -The lodge door was open to anyone coming and going(key card access would be nice)

My friend just recently got married here, and I have to say that I am so jealous, I wish I had gotten married here first. This place is so lush and dreamy, everything my Pinterest board wishes my wedding to be. I came a little late, and I'm embarrassed to say that my bf and I circled the place twice to try and find where the ceremony was being held, but the staff was so kind and friendly, that two ladies walked with me through the gardens to find the rest of the wedding party. Fast forward to food, while the bridal party was out and about taking photos, we had cocktail hour at the pavilion. This included drinks at the bar, and appetizers offered by staff. It was all so yummy, and the staff was professional and super friendly! We had a three course dinner: local crab bisque, caesar salad, and our choice of entree: I had the half lobster and steak. The soup was a bit salty, but everything else was on point with flavors and presentation. Seriously guys, I'm not lying when I say that I want my wedding here.

My husband and I wanted a quick weekend getaway for Memorial Day Weekend. We chose a package that included a room for two, breakfast in the morning, and a $75 credit to be used within the premises (read: restaurant, archery, massage, etc). The grounds are lovely. There's lush greenery as you drive in, it's quiet and peaceful, and there's lots to do. We spent half of our day relaxing by the pool, and the other half just walking around. My husband got to fish for a little bit. We ordered drinks from Harry's (the bar and restaurant in the property) and sat outside. A big plus is that our room was ready before the 3:00 PM check-in time. Service at the front desk was good and accommodating. Our room in the Carriage House was sparkling clean and although on the smaller side, was cozy and just what we needed. The only downside to our stay is that it didn't deliver on a restful night. We desperately wanted a getaway from the city and all the hustle and bustle - and right around midnight the Carriage House got rowdy. Grown men screaming looking for their friends, inebriated, without a care for other people trying to sleep after a long day exploring. The hallway and the rooms aren't carpeted, and the walls are pretty thin. You can even hear people's footsteps echoing down the hall, enough to wake you from your sleep. It's a popular wedding destination, so while we knew we'd get a little bit of the after party shenanigans, we didn't expect it to be THAT loud. So we barely really slept, until maybe around 3. Breakfast was pretty good, standard breakfast buffet fare. I'd love to come back, the only thing holding me back being that I actually would like a chance to sleep peacefully in the night.

But it was near the door to the outside, so there was not a stopper on it, and it was slam shut, which was not great in the middle of the night. I am a very light sleeper so I do take accountability for that, and the refrigerator made warring growling noise quite a bit through the night. So I did not get a good night sleep which I was hoping for. The breakfast was wonderful. Staff was absolutely phenomenal and help. Teddy was a great help getting everything situated and giving me the information on when breakfast was when check out was where my room was located. It was definitely not his fault that there was only one room left since there were weddings and other events in the area. The bed was extremely comfortable. The bathroom was large and the room was very clean which is a huge thing for me. I have to have clean and sanitized. Overall, very good. I think just the sounds is something that may or may not be from the area and possibly age of the hotel that being said I took my pen sleep and consideration. I did have a bit of a sticker shock on pricing. I got a discount, but it's very interesting. How much it cost for a hotel room here. Virginia is not inexpensive.

Same with a tailgate tent for the dj for outside. We paid for wine service and only after asking for it did they do half our tables. The rooms are old and the main manor smells like it. The main room in the stables had no cold water in the kitchen sink and the ice maker didn't work. You can lotion your body 12 Times but there was no soap to wash your hands. The wedding and reception was well run and we had to switch to inside. The coordinator told us grandparents won't be escorted to seats but they set the grooms but not the brides! Really. The coordinator made no effort to find the parents before the cake cutting or the last dance. Or even the exit. And there were three we told would be everywhere. The front entrance looked like a horse pasture with dead grass and weeds. We were told that would be replaced. Nope. Pathetic first impression. The communication was terrible. Only after aggressive attempts at contact do they reply. The wedding coordinator was very helpful and necessary. The "sales girl" treated us like unwelcome guests the day of the wedding saying nothing as she walked by and was snarky when she did talk to my wife. They tried to extort a rehearsal dinner fee for the entire wedding guest amount when less then 40% were coming to the rehearsal. You pay for the weekend and they want money to let you eat after the rehearsal. The owners just seem to be looking for a payday. Nice location good food great place to have a wedding. Be careful with the staff and service. The staff changed about 3 times from booking. They give you a wrong WiFi code then go radio silent to get correct one. They knew our experience had been less than happy yet they make no effort at a last impression other than another bad one.

The sign is not lit at night so you have to make sure you are not only paying attention to the road but also looking out for the drive. We had our GPS guiding us and we still missed it. The inn is a 10-bedroom home that has been converted into a hotel/inn. We arrived while the staff was out but we were able to contact them by phone and get access to the inn. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We were given a friendly tour of the home and a nice glass of wine. A little bit about the inn. It was built in the 1850s and served as a hospital during the Civil War. There are horse stables nearby and plenty of outdoor places to sit and enjoy the scenery. A Civil War hospital? I had the same thoughts that are going through your head right now. I get into the inhabitants of the estate a little later. We stayed in the Fox and the Grape, a private room with it's own private entrance which what I gather is a converted basement. It is a very large room, beautifully decorated, a large bathroom and a small kitchen including a small range if you get the urge to cook something. We arrived on a cold night. We quickly realized we had no thermostat to control in the room thusly had to ask the manager to turn on the heat. He kindly obliged but I will warn you, it gets quite warm and it is a bit noisy. There is no television in the room so you'll have to entertain yourselves like sharing sweet nothings with your loved one, talking about your feelings and sharing your deepest darkest secrets. We did have problem with flies. No telling why but I think we killed about 10 the 1st night. We did bring up the fly problem to the manager the next morning and he promptly sent out an exterminator. Unfortunately, we did find a few more flies the 2nd night but not quite as many as the first. Also, we had an interesting experience with the hot water. It seems if they are running a wash in another part of the inn you will first get hot water in the shower that quickly turns ice cold. I did learn that the inn is allegedly inhabited by 4 ghosts. I say allegedly because we did not have any experiences but there are accounts over the years of others that have. One ghost is of a woman possibly a nurse that whispers in mens ears. Another that dances in the halls outside of the rooms. One ghost stays in the Burgundy Room and likes to leave an impression in the bed and the last ghost apparently doesn't like Christmas trees and has been known to knock them over. They will be going through a renovation soon in 2021 and will shut down during that time. We did see the pictures of the planned renovation and it looks to be quite the upgrade but without losing it's charm. Overall, we had a decent stay at the Black Horse Inn.

While check-in went fine, the rest of our experience was extremely disappointing and far below what we expected from a Hilton property, especially during such an important time. The night before the wedding, my guests and I felt genuinely unwelcome in the lobby and lounge areas. Staff repeatedly approached us with unnecessary restrictions, including telling us we couldn't drink White Claws from the can even though the hotel sells the exact same product at the bar, and telling us we couldn't take pictures in the lobby. This created an uncomfortable atmosphere for what should have been a celebratory moment. On the morning of the wedding, things became even worse. While I was getting ready for the ceremony, the front desk repeatedly called my hotel phone demanding that I complete a credit card authorization form for mimosas we had planned for the bridal party. I didn't receive the authorization form until 10:18 AM the same day, which is unacceptable given that this should have been handled well in advance. My card was already on file from check-in, and the staff knew it was my wedding morning, yet the calls continued. This was an unnecessary and stressful disruption. To make matters worse, despite explicitly instructing them to charge the card on my room and completing the authorization form with that same card, the hotel charged a completely different card--my wife's personal card from her separate room the night before. That card was never authorized for these charges, and we were never given an itemized bill explaining the charges. My wife and her bridesmaids also felt uncomfortable and scrutinized by staff. They were told they couldn't have food in the conference room we booked and again told they couldn't take pictures in the lobby. Instead of being met with hospitality and grace on a day meant to be joyful and memorable, they felt restricted and unwelcome. Overall, the lack of hospitality, the inconsistent and unnecessary rules, the disruptions on the morning of the wedding, and the mishandling of our billing made this an extremely negative experience. This was supposed to be a once-in-a-lifetime weekend for us and our guests, and the hotel added stress instead of support. I hope management takes these issues seriously so future guests, especially wedding parties, don't go through the same treatment. After our stay, we attempted to resolve these concerns through multiple channels, including calling the hotel directly and contacting Hilton Corporate. The only response we received was that an itemized bill would be sent to us and that no further compensation or remediation would be provided with no real apology for our experience. We still have not received the itemized bill we were promised, which only adds to the frustration and lack of professionalism we experienced throughout this process.

We had a couple of issues there, but nothing tragic. Our room was on the 2nd floor. There was no elevator, and our room was halfway down the long hallway. This proved to be difficult for my wife, whose knee problem has flared up on this trip. By the time we got to the room with our suitcases, though, we figured it wasn't worth going down to ask for a 1st floor room. But just be aware. The continental breakfast is rather lame, of course, if you don't want empty carbs. Cold cereal, box pastries, bread for toast, with just bananas and apples on the healthy side. So the room was fine, spacious and clean, though the fridge made this weird grating noise, sort of like a rat in between a wall. It didn't keep me awake, but it was a little creepy. The A/C worked well, the tv had the weather channel and many more. The bathroom toilet is too close to the wall for a health issue I have, but it is probably fine for most people. A minor issue was that employees kept a couple of doors propped open. Now you don't need a room key (maybe you should) so it is not actually making the building more accessible to intruders, but nothing beckons like an open door. The location is good, except our maps program couldn't get us to the entrance. The hotel has a big sign near the restaurant driveway nearby, so learn where that is and use it. There is also a Burger King nearby, and a Dunkins, Starbucks and Giant supermarket in the neighborhood.
