Sure I spent a decent amount of time harvesting in my grandmother's garden, but when it comes to tiling and putting seeds in soil that is not me. So whilst visiting friends in Charleston they wanted to show us their favorite spot for plants. Being a good friend, I went along for the ride. Here's what I've learned about plants, since volunteering in a community garden since my CHS visit. Plants are good for us! Of course they're good in the sense of something to eat or a herb for flavor, but I'm talking about mental health here (not to mention physical health-purer Oxygen). They help the mind rest and focus and relax. And that is exactly what happened when I walked through the door of Plant Babe. I had no idea there were that many plants (again, not my strong suit here). And the aesthetics of the exude warm colors and allow for sunlight to spill wherever it pleases. They should set up chairs and charge by the hour for "chill therapy". And the team, superb. Friendly, knowledgeable, and patient. If you are anywhere near, even if you "think" you don't need a plant, stop by and I'll bet you leave with something in your hands.

When I first moved to Mount Pleasant 5 years ago, Abide A While was the first nursery that I went to. As soon as I walked in the annual section, I was met with the warmest smile by an older lady that instantly made me feel at home. I forgot her name, but after talking for a while she had mentioned she was with the company for about 40 years! Being as happy as she was with the same company for that long is definitely is a statement in itself! Unfortunately she retired not too long ago, but now I've met so many other friendly and knowledgeable people at Abide A While. Bruce and J.D.(?) are my go-tos. As for the layout, I like it a lot. Pretty much all the annuals are to the right. Houseplants are on the left, inside with the household items. (All of the household items are beautifully displayed and consist of great quality). Outside, towards the rear of the building are the perennials, trees, and some tropical plants. One of the most important things about Abide A While is every plant is labeled and the majority have full descriptions! If the description is not on the pot, it'll be on a nearby post or printed out on a card. There's nothing more that I hate than to have to do full research on the spot for a plant that catches my eye. So kudos to them for providing that information. I'll end with saying Abide A While is just beautiful, inside and out. I especially love going there after a stressful day. It's so serene, and even majestic in a way. If you haven't been there before, it's worth going for that reason alone.

We built 3 raised bed gardens this year and were looking for topsoil and compost to fill them with…read more I researched every option out there to find the best deal, and landed on Lowcountry Mulch. They have a "gardeners blend" that's pre-mixed topsoil and compost, and they deliver (they charge slightly more for delivery if you have under a certain amount of soil - still cheaper than renting a truck and making 2 trips to get it ourselves). I called them on Friday afternoon and scheduled a Saturday morning delivery. It was super easy, and I paid by credit card over the phone. On delivery day, the guy showed up right on time, and EXPERTLY maneuvered his huge dump truck to exactly the part of our yard that we wanted the dirt to be. Seriously, the level of precision was just nuts. We had him drive onto our grass (because it's in bad shape anyways), but he was careful not to turn the wheels more than necessary, so there was minimal damage done. Overall, we are so impressed with the customer service, the product, and the price. Couldn't have asked for a better experience. UPDATE: after filling all 3 of our raised beds, there is still SO much dirt left over! I doubled and tripled checked my calculations, so I'm almost certain I didn't order too much. I think they were just very generous with their delivery! We were able to give several wheelbarrow-fulls to our neighbors, filled up all of our empty flower pots, and will still have plenty to pile up in the corner of the yard for future projects. It's the never-ending pile!!
