I really wanted to stand on a ledge of glass in a window box over 100 stories over Chicago. I have to say, once I got there it was a little nerve-wracking! They give you 90 seconds to the "ledge" but you can rejoin the queue and do it over and over. We had the City pass which gives you an expedited line for the ledge experience. There was smoke in the air from Canadian wildfires but I thought it just added to the experience.
It was really nice seeing some of Chicago history before going up to the sky deck! The elevator took us up super fast and we had a blast taking pics and being able to see the entire city!! It was worth it to me and we made great memories! There is soo much to do at the Willis tower you can easy spend a whole day there
Fun experience, however at a "high" cost as well. Like $55 per person--HINT, get the Groupon for $28!!!!! It's more that then staring down 103 floors from a glass floor. On the way there, it is a brief history of the building and what chicago has to offer like food, the Obama, sports teams..., which is very well done and great photo ops. Also, things are well organized. Each group gets 90 secs of taking all the photos from the glass floor--which is nicely monitored and you can always get in line again for a 2nd or even 3rd round! They also do take photos for you at 2 different spots, however at $40 = no thanks. Would def recommend, however get the tix thru Groupon to make ot more affordable....
Let me start by saying the main purpose of this visit was to step outside of my comfort zone--because I am terrified of heights. The staff at Skydeck Chicago were all very sweet and friendly throughout the experience. As you make your way up, you walk through a series of exhibits and fun facts about Chicago, which was a nice touch and made the wait feel more engaging. It really highlights what makes the city special. Once we reached the top, I quickly realized I had underestimated just how high the building actually is. When it was time to step out onto the ledge... I completely punked out! They tell you not to look down, but of course, your natural reaction is to do exactly that. There's a photographer ready to capture the moment when you step all the way out onto the glass, but truthfully, I couldn't make it all the way out. I gave it about 2.5 seconds of bravery before my fear kicked in! Even with my moment of panic, I'm still really glad I went. It was definitely an unforgettable experience and a fun way to challenge myself.
Our activity while in Chicago was to check out the Sky Deck. Tickets were a bit pricey but, I would suggest trying Groupon for discounted tickets. The location is inside of building with a large food court. I was not expecting a full on museum of all of popular food, culture and celebrity natives of Chicago but, I absolutely love it. It was pretty crowded especially when we got upstairs however, the line was moving pretty quickly. We were able to take pictures and see great angles of the city. The Ledge was pretty cool. Definitely a must visit
I thought I came here after few years ago, but that must have been the 360. My son and I had go city passes and we took the big bus here. We didn't have reservations on time but she just added us. They had cute chicago food displays. My son and I took pictures and walked to the ledge for pictures. I did splurge and bought the $35 photos they took too. The views of Chicago from up high at 103rd floor were awesome. Highly recommend!
I've been to many observation decks, and this one, in my opinion, isn't as impressive. It's just a short walk around one floor with nothing much besides a gift shop and the glass ledge where you can take pictures standing on the see-through glass. We finished walking around in about ten minutes. We got our tickets through the CityPASS, which gave us expedited entry (definitely worth it since the regular lines were long). Expedited entry also includes fast access to the ledge, and you can go back in line as many times as you want for photos. The regular line looked like a 1-2 hour wait--totally not worth it!
Must see while in Chicago. We went in expecting to do the SkyDeck overlook but were really surprised and excited to see they had a whole walkthrough prior to reaching the elevator up to the sky deck. This was an all about Chicago museum that showcased history, culture, food, architecture, sports, television, and overall Chicago experience. The SkyDeck itself was amazing. Views were nice. We had to wait in line to step into the deck and you get 90 seconds for pictures, videos, or whatever. You are able to get in line again if you want another 90 seconds. You can do this as many times as you want. Keep in mind the line gets longer the later it gets into the day. The staff was really nice and helpful with taking pictures.
"Do one thing every day that scares you", Baz Luhrman sang. Visiting the Skydeck checked that box. (Acrophobia is REAL!) We got there in broad daylight and stayed until it was dark. Both were sensational in different ways. We saw some amazing things, in more than one sense! Plus, visiting on 9/11 made it extra special. Chicago, we were really impressed. Never forget! Just for the record, the name should have stayed "Sears Tower".
I'm honestly confused on the 3.5 rating. The first time I visited Chicago, my friend and I went to the 360 Chicago Observation Deck and I prefer this experience. Being able to go through a bit of history before getting to the gift shop and the ledge is such a nice touch. If you're visiting out of town, I definitely recommend you do this prior to going on a boat architecture tour. Learning more about the architecture around the city, then seeing it in person is a nice sequence. We went at night and we maybe waited 20 minutes in line? I didn't think it was an extensive wait. It's two parties per box and you both get a photo before your 60 seconds start for your own photos. It was a little rushed but you feel grateful when you realize how much longer you would have to wait in line if this wasn't enforced. We really liked the photo they took of us and thought it was worth buying. If you buy any prints, you get all the digital photos.
Great views. A trip to the ledge will set you back $54/person plus a processing fee. Exhibits leads you to a line to queue for the elevator which takes you to the 103rd floor. Another queue to get to the ledge. Timers are set for 90 seconds once on the ledge to keep the line moving. Great views and less scary than you'd think. On a clear day it's definitely worth a visit. Several food options in the main level including shake shack and a sushi bar.
At the time of our visit (August 2022), the interactive museum was new. It was really cool to walk through and see the highlights of Chicago. We probably spent 20-30 minutes going through the exhibit. I liked the mock L-train ride and it felt like you were really riding the train. The museum featured things like the Chicago culinary scene, architecture, sports, and local celebrities. There were lots of photo ops too. Once we got to the 103rd floor, we didn't have to wait long to get on the deck (less than 5 minutes). It was a bit foggy and rainy so the views weren't as great, but it was still cool to be up there. The glass deck wasn't that scary (the elevator ride was more scary to me than the views from the glass floor lol). They allow 90 seconds for each party to hang on the deck so take all of the photos that you can. We did end up paying for the professional photos as a keepsake. Once you get your photos on the ledge, you can roam around and take in the views. They have a few information panels that point out other landmarks depending on the direction that you're facing. There's also a gift shop that sells Chicago themed merchandise. Even though the weather wasn't great, I still enjoyed our visit.

103rd floor! LOVED the experience. It's rare to ever go up so high, but also to see so much. There's plenty of wonderful architecture from such a high angle. You can also see lots of history of the building and how many thunder bolts the building grounds each year. I've read a lot of mixed reviews on this, but I had a great time. I timed it on a Wednesday afternoon and there was a steady stream of people there. However, it wasn't so packed that I felt rushed. People were taking their time with their photos and I had plenty of time to take mine. I would recommend it to other tourists and some couples that are looking to enjoy some time. Just schedule it on a relatively empty day and you'll be set! read more
Skydeck Chicago at Willis Tower is a must for any tourist visiting Chicago. The wait time can be long, so plan accordingly and arrive early. They offer a military discount on admission, which was awesome! The museum themed walk to the elevator was an added treat, as we weren't expecting it - it's full of neat information about Chicago and offers plenty of photo ops. The ride up the top goes pretty fast, and there is plenty of room to roam around once you've arrived. The 360 views of the city and beyond are incredible. The glass ledge that you're able to stand, sit, jump, lay on, etc. is a neat experience... just don't look down if you're afraid of heights. All-in-all the Skydeck was everything we expected and more. Highly recommend!! read more

If your in Chicago and wanting to do an outlook, this was a really good one. The tickets are by reservation and once you check in you go through an "immersive experience" which was kinda cool and had a lot of stuff in it. Then you take the elevator up to the 103rd floor. The elevator moves really quick. Once you get up there you can walk around the entire floor and see out onto all of Chicago. Then there is the glass floor experience. You have to wait in a little line to take your turn in the box. It was very scary but we'll worth the wait. You have two minutes to take your own pictures. I would highly recommend, tickets were about $37. read more
For the price and the experience, it is worth it comparing it to other tower decks we have been in different cities. Self-service ticket counters and helpful staff at the entrance of Skydeck. Great photos opportunities and staff gave some extra time as well in the ledge. Located inside Willis tower and had a very nice experience. The tower is well maintained and feels very modern. On the ground floor itself, there are few restaurants and sitting areas. Very clean and well decorated overall. Clean floors, restrooms, and well self-guided building. The staff is very helpful too. There is a history attached to this tower and they have portrayed it very well all over the building, especially at the entrance of the Skydeck experience. read more

Basically just a glorified gift shop in a tall building. We waited about an hour past our reservation time to get up the elevators, because they were doing work on them. People were getting pretty antsy stuck downstairs waiting and then having to switch to 4 different elevators before getting to the top. Once at the top, you walk out into a pretty small viewing area, mostly taken over by a gift stop. No seating. No food options. They do have a couple ledge areas where you can go take pictures and be suspended over the ground, which is a cool photo op. The picture they take of you is the coolest, but they charge $35 to get the picture package ... one picture, 3 different sizes. Not worth it. I wish they sold one picture, I would've gotten that. Afterwards, of course, another gift shop as you are leaving. For the price, you don't get much of an experience. Did it once, won't be back. read more
The "SEARS TOWER" construction started in 1970 & was completed in May 1973. It was designed by Bruce Graham of Skidmore Owings Merrill & Fazlur Kahn who was known as the father of tubular construction. At the time of its completion in May 1973 The Sears Tower was the Worlds Tallest Building but alas it has been surpassed by many buildings & is currently the 2nd tallest building in America & only the 12th tallest building in the world. In spite of the Sears Tower being this tiny little building you can still get an incredible 360 view of Chicago recently deemed the second most beautiful city in the world & I might add the most beautiful city in America. In addition they added the sky deck that projects out from the observation deck 103 floors above the street level. While this is only the 12 tallest building you can still get a spectacular view in all 4 directions. The sky deck while while kind of cool is a bit of a disappointment as there is a line & access time is limited to only a couple of minutes. read more
Prior to arriving at Skydeck Chicago I read TONS of reviews so that I knew what to expect upon my visit. I will start this review off with overall Skydeck Chicago did not disappoint. A few of the major things to know about your trip to Sky Deck Chicago. - In an effort to ensure they're moving the lines along smoothly they're sticklers about time. 60 seconds per person. Larger groups who take photos together get additional time. - The line gets pretty long. We got there as soon as they opened it was a decent wait. Consider getting the express ticket option. - in my opinion the prints that they offer are reasonable priced especially if you're with a large group and want to add additional pictures. Other highlights - The staff was very friendly for the most part. One of my friends was very nervous about the entire experience and he was beyond supportive! - The experience leading up to the actual landing is worthwhile. Provides a lot of options for photo ops and education about Chicago and its rich history. - Lots of eateries inside of Willis Tower - Mask mandate strictly enforced. read more
In the area doing tourist stuff... Wife's birthday and she had never been to Chicago.. so up for views we went... it was a pleasant visit even bought some pictures of us from the ledge they had. Overall a friendly staff and warm experience. I love the lead up to the elevators.. so many pic opportunities.. I had fun with them.... Last time I visited it was the Sears tower... Beautiful views of the city. Yes, you pay a price to get a view like that, but it's worth it. The Skydeck also lets you stand in an area where the only thing stopping you from a drop to your demise, is a layer of plexiglass. Enjoyed all of the views and had plenty of time to see everything. Only downside is that everyone presses their face or head against the window, so I think they should be cleaned more. I don't need your face imprint on my photo. read more
Friends and I were visiting Chicago for a long weekend and our first night there we decided to get a few touristy activities out of the way. While I had lived in the Windy City a few years ago for some time, I had never been to the SkyDeck so I was totally down. We ordered tickets online and made our way there once our reservation time arrived. It was a little difficult to find from the street but we were able to find a little signage and an employee to help direct us in the right direction. The experience started with a weird photo op. I'm not sure why someone going for the SkyDeck experience would want a fake photo of them taken before doing the real thing, but whatever. The photo was terrible and we definitely didn't take advantage of that service. Next we made our way through a really neat museum-like maze that highlighted things that Chicago is known for. There was also a lot of history and fun facts along the way. Eventually we made it to the elevator that took us to the top floor. Once we got there we pretty much had 360 access. While there were health and safety precautions to follow, the flow took you all the way around. Once you get to the side of the actual SkyDeck you get in line for the party that physically sticks out from the building. Everyone got one minute to take photos... which was really difficult if you had multiple people. We made it work but an extra minute would be nice. I would compare it to a roller coaster. A long line and build up for a really quick thrill. Unfortunately our experience ended abruptly due to some safety concerns. Of course, we didn't get many details and the exit took about forty minutes. Instead of going down the quick elevator we came up on, we had to take a couple different ones, stopping at different floors to get all the way down. They ended up refunding our tickets for the inconvenience, which was much appreciated. While our experience was cut short, we still got a few good photos and enjoyed ourselves (minus the trip down). I'm sure our experience was out of the norm and I still recommend it as a fun thing to do in the city. Other than the ending, there were a few things that could be improved but all in all, it was cool. read more

The most amazing views of Chicago! Staff was very friendly. You only got about a minute or two to take pictures in the glass box, but you were able to go multiple turns! We recommend going on a weekday, so it's not too crowded. :) We went on a Wednesday and it was $32/adult. A great, family-friendly activity to put on the Chicago trip itinerary! read more
The views from Skydeck were priceless! I love these types of attractions because they are such a great way to get a lay of the land and admire the architecture from a unique point of view. The picture opportunities are wonderful as well! You start your experience by going through a mini-museum about Chicago's history. This part is well done with plenty of photo opportunities to keep you engaged as you wait. The express elevators were not in service during my trip, so they packed us in the normal elevators. It was a little too close for comfort for me in pandemic times. Once upstairs, the views are great! Just be aware, once you get in line for pictures at the Ledge, they may not let you go back through to the start for more pictures. Make sure you are finished before you get in line for the Ledge. The views from the Ledge were great, but the photo opportunity is kind of a let down. You are allowed 60 seconds to take photos which is marked by a timer and strictly enforced. This is kind of a bummer considering it is the main attraction and you have to wait in line (it took us about an hour) for so long before you get there. I'm glad I did it - this is an iconic tourist experience that I think everyone should do once - but I won't go again. I'd rather take my time enjoying the view in a bar or restaurant where I can really soak in the view. read more
So much fun! Sometimes you just have to take the risk and do it. Even if you're afraid of heights. 103 stories up is okay. Just don't look down! At the Willis tower there when you enter you will see a cute cafeteria area ground floor and little shops, after you will see signs that lead you to the sky deck which is 103 stories high. When you reach the 103rd floor you will be able to stand in line and take pictures at a full bodied glass extension of the building. If you are afraid of heights do not look down as you will scare yourself so bad you'd freeze lol. Definitely a must in Chicago! read more
See-through bottom ledge 103 stories up anyone?!? No problem! No one has time to be scared when you only have 60 seconds to get your own pictures in while at the ledge. It is a little of a process to get to this location, but it is 100% worth it! I am sure the process may be a little different now as we went pre-Covid but in general it probably still takes a while, if not longer. You can walk around the entire 103rd level to take pictures and then their is the line for the ledge. The views are great of the City, the day we went it was a little overcast but still beautiful. I am sure this is a great experience at night too. They take photos for you too that you can purchase but I honestly didn't like ours at all so am glad that they give you 60 seconds (that was the time allowed when we went) to take your own photos and they did have people there timing you to move the line along. read more

A great tourist trap. Wouldn't necessarily make a repeat trip, because there's only so many times I want to venture to the top of a skyscraper and peer down at Chicago from like, 100 stories up, but worth the wait and the view. Fun for people of all ages! read more

Being on the 103rd floor was scary and exhilarating all at once, how can you not appreciate the jaw dropping gorgeous views while terrifyingly perching 4 feet away from the building in a 1.5" thick glass box. Sounds scary right?! It was! I tiptoed into the glass box shaking, while others jumped and posed for photos and videos. You get one minute in the box, but are allowed to re-enter the line for more terrifying fun! Fun fact: on a clear sunny day you can see 4 states from here! read more

Skydeck is totally worth the money!!! It's about an hour long experience, getting into the Willis Tower, heading up to the 103 floor and then exploring all the details about Chicago before actually stepping out on the ledge. If you're scared of heights, this isn't the place for you.. the views are insaneeeee but it can be intimidating stepping out on the side of the building looking down. We enjoyed walking through the "museum" aspect of it and taking LOTS of pictures. From the deep dish, hot dog, Wrigley field and Chicago photo ops, it's a cute activity and breath taking views. read more
I've been to the Skydeck before but not since they added the Ledge and all of the interactive exhibits downstairs. I was really impressed with the walkthrough exhibit. There were a ton of different areas for picture taking and it was really informative on the history of Chicago. The Skydeck itself was great. Each window feels like a different views. Our wait for the Ledge was short and you get about two minutes to take whatever pics you want. The employees were really awesome about taking our picture also when we wanted to both be in it. The only downside is the elevators take forever and they really pack you in to maximize the amount of people. If you're in Chicago and haven't been to the Skydeck in awhile, check it out. read more

SUCH an amazing fun experience! Super touristy but still one of my favorite things I did while visiting chicago. Skydeck is included in city pass. If you're going for more than a few days, city pass is well worth it- free admission to 5 of the main museums and attractions in chicago. Skydeck was included so I figured I should go, but I was definitely nervous- I'm so scared of heights! Even if you're scared of heights and skip the little glass viewing part, it's still fun! They have you walk through rooms before getting to the elevator that describe various aspects of chicago history and culture. It was a fun little museum-type experience without being overwhelming. There are plenty of photo ops along this walk as well. You get in the elevator, which to go up dozens of floors should take minutes. I was crammed in with like 15 other people and getting nervous, but the elevator ride was also fun?! It moves quickly - 24 feet a second - and they play a fun video showing how high up you are compared to other buildings in the world. When you get the the top, there are gift shops and more viewing opportunities. The view from up here is amazing and so worth the trouble. You can see the gorgeous lake and all of the famous buildings, you can see boats and cars and tiny tiny tiny little people. I decided to just go for it and try the little glass viewing boxes. There's information on the construction and safety of them for those of you who are like me and need extra reassurance. You wait in a short line, it took about 10 minutes because they do a good job of handling reservations, then you get a minute or two in the box depending on the size of your party. The employees will gladly take your photo as well. All in all, I thought this would be my least enjoyed city pass experience and it ended up being my favorite. The whole process took less than an hour and was not scary or too crowded or any of the other concerns I thought I'd have. Definitely worth the go! read more

I wasn't exactly sure what to expect since this would be a first for me. I've never really ventured to the top of a building just for views. The views for breath taking. On one side you get the downtown skyline with a view of Lake Michigan and the other side is the rest of Chicago. Certainly something everyone visiting Chicago should definitely do! Well worth the money. read more

If you want a nice view of the city, this is a great option. We picked this over the tilt, and honestly it was a great view. Even if you pre-book a time, be prepared to wait at least 30 minutes or more in line. Due to COVID restrictions, they are limiting capacity which I appreciate. It's 3 sets of elevators to the top, you'll social distance in lines to all 3 of them. When you get to the final level, they have the infamous ledges. You are timed (depending on your group, 4 or more is 2 minutes) to get your pictures. They take one you can buy but I just used my phone for pics. They will not take pictures on your phone for you (as they shouldn't) so keep that in mind. They do sanitize between all guests thoroughly as you are allowed to remove your mask for pictures. They don't take temperatures but hand sanitizer is available. If you want to pre-book, tickets are only released a few days prior. read more

From the top, you can see some of the most amazing views and take beautiful photos of Chicago's Skyline. The staff gives your group 90 seconds to capture your most imaginative pics, but don't rush because you can get back in line to do it all over again. This is where the "expedited feature" if you choose to purchase it comes in handy. Those lines were shorter, beginning with the line to get to the top to the line for taking pics in front of the glass "Ledge." This activity is a must. read more

What an experience! I thought you just take an elevator to the 103rd floor but you actually start with some history of the tower. Very immersive and educational for everyone. Lots of photo opps and a great way to learn more about the city. Add this to your list of places to visit when coming to Chicago! read more

DO NOT COME HERE DURING COVID. AWFUL SYSTEM IN PLACE. I got tickets for the 9:30am and wasn't at the top till 11am. What is the point of setting an appointment if you're not even going to let us up anywhere remotely near the time? And i totally understand that due to COVID they have to restrict the number of people in the elevator to go up - since that's the case, cap the number of people per appointment time to an even lower number!! I would MUCH rather look online and see less times available than select a time that made me stand for over an hour WAITING. So frustrating. Not worth it. read more

Such an AMAZING experience. I really love being able to get a true Birds Eye view when going to big cities. The sky deck gives you the opportunity to have some fun while you float above the ground in a glass box. But also the tower itself has so many vantage points of the city and lake that you can really take it all in! If you or your partner are afraid of heights I still recommend doing it because it is a true experience! Something that you have to do. read more

We had such a great time here! Views were breathtaking and we enjoyed the activities and photo ops prior to taking the elevator up. The last time I visited the tower was in 2013 and it was definitely a wonderful experience with new additions. read more
The original skyscraper and face of Chicago. Found in the Willis tower formally known as the Sears Tower. A whopping 103 floors high. This is also apart of the city pass. We opted to come here during the night time since we did another tower during the day. Wow!! The views are truly captivating. They have multiple huge walls to take photos out of but the real crowd pleaser is the glass boxes that make it appear that your floating over the city. Although I admit you cannot miss this attraction, the process to get up is quite difficult. First of all the city pass does not give you fast pass as mentioned. The wait to go in the elevator was 2 hours. This is no easy task with a baby. Next you have to switch to another elevator. Finally your up. Then you have to wait another hour to get a picture in the clear box. Then there's another line to go down!!! Seems very unfair and outrageous. Especially when the other tower we visit was a seamless experience. None the less the view was worth it. I would HIGHLY suggest investing in the vip. You get to skip the lines. This can save you 2-3 hours or try to come early in the morning during the weekdays and I'm sure it's a much better experience. read more
It was very busy on a Thursday night, right before sunset. A lot of people in line for the photo with the views where the machine takes it for you. They time it by the number of people in your party. So if you have 2 people, they give you 1 minute to take as many photos as you wish. It was pretty hot with all of the people and the floor to ceiling glass windows at 360. Views were spectacular though! They have a mini exhibition interactive activities before heading up! read more

Has anyone ordered Skydeck general admission off of Tiqets site? It's asking for us to pick a time to visit, will we still wait in line?
Yes, you will. I went this past weekend, and asked two different workers to confirm but you still have to wait in the general admission line even if you prepurchase a time slot. Hope this helps!
How bad are the wait times first thing in the morning on a Sunday?
It was about 30 mins if you get there right away. People always get there and wait in line before the restaurant even opens. I recommend a reservation for guaranteed seating!
