It's a great way to see the whole city of Chicago from afar and there are beautiful pictures stations and there's also a bar and a cloud walk. 360 skydeck was gorgeous, the tilt was a gimmick. That being said, for a few dollars more, the fast pass is absolutely worth it if you're not into waiting a bajillion years in lines. Bring snacks as you will still be waiting in a 30 min line for the tilt, which is 30 seconds of holding onto a grimy handle (if you want), the tilt is at most 30 degrees. The elevator up to Hancock Center is 39 seconds to the 94th floor where 360 skydeck sits. read more

Chicago has lots of tall buildings. It seems the one formerly known as the Sears Tower is the one everyone knows. The building formerly known as the John Hancock Center is the other important one. Most famous for the antennas. You can also go to the observation deck and see literally for miles. A long interesting history about this building. It's 100 stories and is the second tallest building in the city. This is located at 875 North Michigan Avenue, which is now this building's name. But why was the name changed. The building used to be the headquarters of the John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Company, which moved out and years later in 2018 asked for its name to stop being used, so that's why. Like Chicagoans do with the Sears Tower, they don't give a fuck and call it by the old name. This building also like that one has an observation deck at the top. Stores in here include a location of The North Face. There's also a market on the 44th floor that separates the office and residential tenants. It has good views if you can get to it. On this floor is also the highest indoor swimming pool in the United States. At the top on the 95th floor used to be a restaurant, The Signature Room. This closed and it's just an empty space. Best thing is the observation deck and the lounge. Its worst thing is paying to get there. This building certainly has great views. read more

Really gorgeous views. An iconic spot. Went here on my last day in Chicago. You can see everything. The mixed bag came with the staff, very hit or miss, on what should be a fun life experience. Luxurious CloudBar lives up to its reputation. Some staff go out of their way to be welcoming. Others straight up yell at you, pressing for quick volume an otherwise relaxing bar. Not worth the high price point for a drink with that uncertain style of service. It takes away from it. Otherwise wonderful, and many staff were so kind to even the casual tourist. read more

One of the tallest buildings in the world, topping out at 100 floors, now formally named 875 North Michigan Avenue, since 2018. JHC is a mixed use property that includes shops (plaza), grocery store, swimming pool (44th Fl), commercial offices, residential units, restaurants (Cheesecake Factory) and attractions (SkyDeck). I have been here several times. If this is on your list for things to do, make sure to stop on the 94th floor for the 360 Chicago Observation Deck. Check out the beautiful views, if you're brave enough, get a tight grip on TILT, an attraction that has windows that tilt outside the building with a downward facing view. The John Hancock was once the tallest building in the world and then Chicago kinda lost it to Malaysia and Dubai and other cities. Nonetheless, we're still known for having many skyscrapers. And still, it's a great building. I've heard that this building sways and creaks when it's windy. Kinda like the Sears tower. I've never worked here (I worked a year at Sears tower) and I've only been to Cheesecake Factory (below ground level) and the 95th and observation floor. This building is Chicago Iconic and is right up there with the Bean, Bears, Cubs, deep dish, etc. Skidmore, Owings and Merrill designed it. FYI - they also designed Terminal 3 Ninoy Aquino airport by the way. We tried the tilt and I got a bit scared, I don't know why, but I did. It was fun and brief and no pics were allowed in the tilt room, what the heck. Looking down 95 stories, I guess I'm not as macho as I thought. My office view is very similar but if you take out of town family members, they'll be in awe. read more

The John Hancock Center came as a traveler's pro tip from a colleague who had moved from Chicago to Seattle. After checking in to the hotel, did a power walk in brrrr Windy City fashion to check this out. Note it is free to ride the escorted elevator to the 95th floor to the Signature Room to have cocktails. The view is spectacular. The wait staff pleasant but harried. Nice strong pre-dinner cocktail, but was overcharged. Tipped them well, nevertheless. Wish could have lingered longer. read more

An awesome place to be at. Take the elevator up to the 94th floor and you will be greeted to great views of Downtown Chicago and the surrounding neighbourhoods. Go especially at night, the view is much prettier then. My only complaint would be that it can get a bit boring here while you wait to go up to the top. I didn't think too much about this until I also went up the Sears Tower a few days later. The Sears Tower has gone under a complete makeover where there are many photo op stations and interactive exhibits featuring the history of Chicago. If the John Hancock Center did this as well, then my review would be 5 stars. Otherwise this place is well worth the admission price to go up to the 94th floor, even though it is a bit pricey. Being from New York City, I can appreciate skyscrapers and enjoy going up and seeing the vast landscapes. Chicago is a very different view that what I am accustomed to. If you're debating on doing the "Tilt" or not, just do it! This is what separates coming here versus going to Willis Tower. The tilt only lasts for about a minute and it's a fun mini thrill to see Chicago at a different view. If you opt out of the tilt at least enjoy the views and check out their new bar area. I have a fantasy of living here. When I am a best selling author, one of my many homes will be here. Also, one of my favorite books has some scenes that take place in this building - Fred Saberhagen's An Old Friend of the Family - about vampires in modern day Chicago and Mina Harker's descendants summoning Dracula to help them. Why this hasn't been made into a movie yet, I don't know. I remember reading about people who live in this building and it sounds like an amazing place to live for many reasons. But for those of us who don't live there, the Hancock Building is still worth a visit. This Chicago landmark is a must see on any visit to Chicago. I don't like heights, so I've never been to the top, but I enjoy what the building has to offer on the lower floors. There are restaurants, shopping, a lovely courtyard, and we found a fun Christmas exhibit of the arctic - whales and polar bears and such. The staff are helpful. There is a nice gift shop - a fun place to pick up Chicago mints, Chicago chocolates, postcards, maps, and more. I always enjoy visiting this place. I find something new every time and look forward to my next visit. read more

Second City's Second Tower! This life insurance building has some magnificent views of the Magnificent Mile! It's a big black tapering building that's squared off on the corners. There's a few ways to get to the tallest spots on the Chicago skyline, and this is probably the best way to do it. If you go to the observatories at the top of the two most famous tall buildings, they do some schtick where they lean you up against the glass to spook you, and hurry you out the door once you've paid big bucks for your gander. The alternative is coming here and going to the lounge for an (expensive) cocktail. The price will be less, and at least you'll get a drink out of it and get to sit down and take your time checking out the skyline. The elevator guy was hilarious, cracking jokes the whole time we were ascending up to the top of the building. The lounge is actually a story higher than the restaurant! The building looks a little dated, but it's still a nice looking, classy joint. If you're going at night, be sure to get pointed at the city instead of the lake, where there's nothing to see. read more

My bf and friend went for just drinks and dessert. The cheesecake was delicious. The texture felt lighter than a New York style. The chocolate mouse cake was also tasty. Equally good. Great experience but not for the faint of heart. A group of friends and I decided to sightsee the Windy City and one of the first attractions that go mentioned was the Tilt. Everyone bought their ticket, which came down to 24 bucks and some change and off we went. First, the Hancock Building, where the attraction is located, is a masterpiece of modern engineering. The beautiful black steel beams that line is façade are an incredible testament of the great achievements in American architectural design. Once inside you have to stand in what happens to be a bit of a long line. We decided to go in the afternoon since you get to see the sunset over the city. This happened to be a great decision. Since the Tilt is located on the 92nd floor, you get a 360 degree view of the city. And when the sun starts setting the city is bathed in an array of yellow, orange, pink, purples, and blues. After the sunset the city amazes with it vibrant colors. We came here at start of the Christmas season and lights and Christmas trees line all the streets enhancing the city's beauty. Now let's talk about the Tilt itself. If you are afraid of heights this might not be for you. It is a platform that like the name suggests tilts you over the edge of the building. You get to feel as if you're about to fall. Several members in our party quit at the last minute out of cheer fear, while others closed their eyes. If you're brave enough you'll be rewarded with an unparalleled view of the city. An view only Spider-Man of a fictional superhero is capable of enjoying. With that, if you find yourself in the Windy City and would like to test out your superpower, I recommend you give the Tilt a shot. You won't regret it! read more

I will never forget my first experience visiting this huge edifice. Something you will never forget. And taking the elevator up to the Signature room or the bar above that is quite the exhilarating feeling. The view of looking down is scary. People look like tiny ants. And I will never forget my first time visiting the mens room on top of this building. The water in the toilet never stopped swishing from side to side because of the height of the building and the wind constantly moving the building from side to side. Such an incredible feeling. Great building in a great location. However the security personnel were unnecessarily haughty, requiring a passport for a doctor's visit. I almost left and told them to put me through to the doctor's office so I can explain my reason for not showing up. At that point she reluctantly acquiesced. Some have said that the John Hancock Building, although smaller than the Willis Tower, has better views. As I'm sure that is up for debate, one thing is for sure, they are right about the views being amazing. Stunning views of Chicago; especially during a sunset can be expected. I can't recall the price of the tickets for entry because I purchased a City Pass, and this was included in the cost. I highly recommend a City Pass if you intend on visiting. The Hancock Tower is certainly a icon to visit. The tower has stores, restaurants, and condos. To get to the observation deck is very easy to get to via interior or exterior. Once you purchase your ticket(s), just follow the signs. Along the way, you will see large images of the history of the tower. Finally, before you enter the elevator, there is a short film on how the tower was built. The film is interesting for the first time visitor. After couple of minutes on the elevator, the door opens up - WOW - the views are incredible. You are able to walk around the entire floor to look at the views of this city and surrounding area. If you are not afraid of heights, try the TILT windows for an additional fee. The tilt view is interesting. The windows tilt out 45 degrees (I believe). Great way to the city. read more

Scariest part was going up the elevator. Pretty expensive to go up to the 360 view but a must if you want to get the true feeling of the city. Excellent place to take pictures. Once you get to the top, you can pay extra to to the Tilt, but it's not worth it. Don't know if the air conditioner was on the fritz, but it was so hot!!! Bathroom at top only had three stalls so go before you go to the top. Staff all seem to hate their jobs - except for the people trying to get you to buy the pictures they took of you. This reminds me of Rockefeller Center in NYC and I'll tell you why. When friends come to NYC, they usually want to go to the Empire State Building (much like they probably want to go to Sears/Willis Tower in Chicago). So we go but it's crowded and lines are long and it's a pain in the neck. However, if you go to Rockefeller Center, you can get a timed ticket, there aren't many crowds, you get a great view of the Empire State Building and it seems more civilized. Plus there are stores and places to eat nearby. I found the JHC to be the same way. It was more enjoyable and relaxing experience than the Willis Tower, plus it had better lake views. And they had an outdoor portion that was cool, even if it was screened in. I'd love to go up to the Top of the 'Cock around sunset and watch the sun go down over the great midwest. read more
