Service was horrendous, all they wanted was our money. Food was cold and not good. Ambiance was the best of all the bad.

I've been here for a couple events. One was a launch for a magazine where I wrote as a freelance journalist, and the other a cancer benefit for kids. I like the concept of a rooftop bar with a pool; something you'd find in major cities. I've only seen the pool covered with see-through flooring for walking/dancing. Thought it would be cool to go back sometime and swim but it's a party place so only expect to see those with the hottest bodies wading in water with cocktails. What an amazing, one of a kind (thus far for Pittsburgh), vibrant place. Stopped in here during our St. Paddy's Day excursion. My expectations were low when we were traversing the stairs to the roof, but as soon as we got through the door to the roof, I was impressed. Talk about space, this place definitely has got the space. Even for it being packed for the festivities of the day, it was easy to maneuver in here. Normally, from what the website said, there is a pool in the middle of the area, but for the nighttime the floor is covered over and people are able to dance the night away. There are cabanas that line both sides of the pool area and seating along the one side. A bar then lines the last side of the pool area. Watch your step her as well, there are stairs that lead from the bar area to the deck area proper. And talk about a vantage point to see the city's skyline from the South Side. Totally worth paying a cover here. Points to note here: check the website, hours may be listed here, but you need to see how the hours are divided up; prices are dependent on the hours that you choose to attend, I believe daytime hours are more due to being able to use the pool area; memberships are available and limited; parking...well, it's the South Side; only open three days a week; finally, it is kind of connected to Diesel. read more

We came here around 12am on a Saturday night and I didn't realize it was right above diesel. There was a $5 cover charge for each person but she let the 4 of us in for $10 if we gave her a tip. There's 3 levels: level 1 is diesel with the dance floor, level 2 has some VIP tables and a bar and looks down at the dance floor, and level 3 is another bar with VIP tables and has an open area that looks over Carson street. Drinks were $5 a piece so not bad. We had fun dancing on the second level because it wasn't as crowded as the first level and the third level gives you more privacy. We had fun here! read more

I contacted this place to inquire about VIP service for my sister's bachelorette party. It went something like this... I called the number on their website and left a message. After 2 days of waiting for a response, I called back. On this attempt, a man answered and cut me off before I could even end my sentence. He said he was on the other line and would call back...click. I'm sure you can imagine what happened next, right? Nothing. Absolutely nothing happened! I texted to inquire again about what I could reserve. Someone texted back saying they would take my reservation with no problem and asked for the name to put it under. I gave the name and number of people and then got no response. At this point I still don't know what I can reserve nor how much it costs. So....I texted again and was sent a text that said it was $500. My issue? What is $500? Who do I pay? Is there a contact person? I got no information. Attempting to do business with this place was so frustrating. The reservation never happened but luckily my sister was able to have a good time with plans elsewhere. #ridiculous read more

This bar is kind of a strange concept for Pittsburgh. The rooftop pool/bar is cool but it seems like you're only able to use it if you pay for a VIP cabana. It seems like they are trying way too hard to come off as an upscale club but in reality it's just a corny South Side bar that charges a cover. Also the staff is not the nicest. read more

Fan-frigging-tastic place! Came here for my birthday with a bunch of friends and got a cabana and bottle service. This place is essentially a rooftop patio/bar that sits on top of Diesel - kind of like the 3rd floor. They are both interconnected. So you end up getting the best of both worlds. Great music. World class dance club a floor below. And a place to chill a bit if you need to. Great views, loved the fact that it had a pool (covered up at night with a clear acrylic cover that you can walk on. Our organization rented out this venue for the night with a supposed $4000 open tab. However, since we were only allowed order one drink at a time, weren't allowed to order shots or doubles, and were refused drinks on multiple occasions, Skybar made it virtually impossible to consume our tab. The drinks we were served were few and far between and extremely weak. When we asked for more expensive drinks, we were served the same alcohol we were otherwise getting. I was specifically denied Patron, even though I physically saw the bartender pour it for the patron ahead of me. Toward the end of our unpleasant tenure, Skybar "ran out" of much of the liquor. We were made aware of this from rude and slow remarks from bartenders. Additionally, bartending staff provided rude responses at any voiced complaints. Additionally, the management staff responded to some of our reviews with sassy and immature responses. I am baffled by the treatment we received from the bar staff. It's hard to stress how immature the management and staff was. It was reminiscent of grade school: constant supervision of every action, I was repeatedly asked if I had my wristband by the same staff member, in roughly 5 minutes intervals. Speaking with any employee was uncomfortable, rudeness feels like an understatement. On the upside, the DJ was both talented and extremely kind. He should work at a better venue. read more

The reason this venue received 2 stars is because it is the only rooftop pool in the city. First of all, I attended a rehab Sunday event where "$5 frozen drinks" were advertised as the promotional special on the flyer. 3/4 of the frozen drink machines were broken. The one that was "working" actually didn't work and the bartenders would get really stressed when someone ordered one because, the machine either made it too frozen or not frozen enough. She said the problem is beyond management. (I asked) One of the bartenders was rude. The pool was cloudy. The patio furniture was missing pillows. The bathroom sink was covered in a black garbage back. Ghetto. They had a $10 cover charge too lol. Skybar a beautiful concept, so poorly executed. read more

I mean this place is actually ass cheeks. I was ripping a fat Juul when an oversized man came up behind me, snatched it, and said "no vaping". How am I supposed to be the vape god if I can't even rip my juul? Also there were so many fucking security guards there you'd think the president was gonna waltz in at any second. If you didn't completely rip off your sleeves off or have your arm straight up in the air to show you had a wristband on, if you had a drink in your hand you were being punted out of this place faster than the first time you ever got your nut. Had pretty high hopes for this place - it sounded very cool from photographs and some other reviews. We were disappointed - you could barely hear the music on the dance floor out in the rooftop area. When we asked to turn it up, we were told that Skybar does not have their own DJ, and the music is coming from Diesel. The place itself is very nice, with modern decor and views over Carson St and downtown. However, there is no place to sit, unless you are ready to shell out $300-500 for a cabana. Our organization paid a lot of money to host an event here and it was completely not worth the money. The rooftop was -30 degrees because the heaters sucked. Also, we had some individuals who were underage, drinking NON-alcoholic beverages, that were put in alcoholic cups and the bouncers tried to kick them out for not having a 21+ wristband on. I recently went to this establishment and I have to say that I am not impressed with the level of service. Bouncers joking about doing drugs on the job an threatening potential costumers. The bartenders were on their phones not serving drinks to costumers for part of the night and this made the process of getting a drink hard. The venue itself is not nice either. The pictures are deceiving. It is a small cramped space with very little walking room. There are a few "VIP" sections that are I would say 4 foot by 4 foot. The pool itself is covered by a dance floor that is very slippery if drinks are spilled and that could be a liability. I would advise against having events here. They tend to take large tab groups and lie about how much money they give and not give money back if it is their fault. You are better off spending money elsewhere. The skybar itself did not wow me, but I guess it's cool that it's different than the usual bars/clubs in Southside. The place was small and can get kinda steamy if crowded. Maybe it's better during the warmer season. It was colder when my friends and I went, so it was covered. The pre-made frozen drinks at skybar weren't that great according to my friends. One had the pina colada, which she said didn't taste anything like pina colada. Tasted like frozen nasty alcohol. My other friend had the strawberry daiquiri, which she ended up returning to the bar after 2 sips. The bartender was nice enough to change it to a better tasting drink that's on the rocks instead of being frozen. I don't really know whether to recommend this place to a friend, I guess I will if it's their first time. Otherwise, I probably won't go up to skybar. Also, they charge an $8 cover. Anyway, we couldn't hear the music, so we decided to go down to Diesel after about 10-15 mins at skybar. Diesel had more people and definitely more fun than skybar. read more

This was my favorite bar in south side a few years back. I was last there in summer 2019. I would always go on a Friday or Saturday night around 11pm. It was never overly crowded. It's pretty cool to be up on the roof and when they kept the pool uncovered even though you can't swim at night. People would either accidentally fall in or go in on purpose but if your dripping wet you get thrown out. I liked it better when they had their own security guards rather then having to go through foxtail. The one week my friend had a jacket on (hoodie) and the week following wore the same jacket but was denied entry. read more

I've traveled the world and have seen many different clubs and lounges and Sky Bar in Pittsburgh is one of my LEAST favorite bars. We got a cabana for New Years Eve, the heaters around the area didn't work (it was about 20 degrees outside) , the bottle service was TERRIBLE. They handed us the sparklers and made us open our own bottles. I won't even get into the looks of the females or the way they dressed. They gave us one of the worst tables there, it was on the end near the windows and they didn't properly seal the window so wind was blowing in every second. All the ladies kept their jackets on because of the cold. It was a terrible experience all together. Thank goodness i was with my friends and we have fun anywhere we go. I wouldn't recommend this place if you're in town or even if you are from Pittsburgh. read more

I have never been so upset with an experience in my life. - it was maybe 55 degrees inside the venue, and the aesthetics simply did not make up for it being freezing - While it might have been nice to warm up by dancing, the music was quieter than the music we listened to while getting ready in a quiet hotel room. And they played a number of outdated tracks which did not encourage dancing- therefore, icicles. - Are we a kindergarten class? They would not allow closed bathroom doors and the sole purpose of having a bathroom attendant was not for a classy experience- he was babysitting - Speaking of tight supervision, the 20 employees you had watching everyone's every move to the point that it was uncomfortable could have been put to better use by maybe hiring another bartender- with only two bartenders making drinks, we couldn't have met our tab if we tried - Threatening to kick people out when they're drinking water because they don't have wristbands is pretty uncool - Actually kicking people out with no warning for a $4000 event is pretty uncool too - If you're not going to allow the serving of shots or double drinks, but you're going to go for a large tab, you KNOW you're just taking the money of the people planning the event. We lost nearly $2000 dollars. - Our group was not particularly rowdy considering the venue's tight rules wouldn't allow you to get very drunk, and yet the moment midnight struck, the workers were rudely shoving us out as if we had tried to set fire to the place. They got what they wanted (their money) and we were out by 12:02 no doubt! - In summation, don't have your event here. You'd be better off in a hotel lobby- the music would be just as good and maybe you'd be allowed to drink water! read more

This is a cool unique rooftop bar. It has a glass floor that has a pool underneath it. It has fire pits at night and its above another dance club. It is open to the sky on warm days and nights. I'm not a big drinker so I didn't order any of the slushy drinks. read more

One star may be an overestimation of the quality of this venue. Bartenders will do anything in their power to either not serve you or pour you the lightest drink in the history of the world. What type of a bar does not serve gin or have lime wedges when a tab is being used. Not to mention the fact that they ran out of Sprite in the middle of the event. The benefit of the bar being so slow is that I was fortunate enough to meet and converse with one of the bar backs. Absolutely great guy! Bouncers are on definitely on their high horse at this venue, kicking people out left and right for the most minor violations. Verbal threats were made against the group by the bouncers, which should never occur. Bouncers should serve to protect against conflict, not cause it. Bathrooms were awful at best. Sinks without faucets. Doors that do not close. The girls bathroom ran out of toilet paper an illogical number of times. The bathroom attendant was wonderful although at times it felt like his sole job was to be a professional babysitter. The DJ was fantastic to a point that he should be working at better venues. Unfortunately for him, the environment was not conducive to his expression of his talents as the music was nearly inaudible. Finally, the whole venue was a shocking 55 degrees with the only benefit being the small fires that kept you warm. Finally, the management was and continues to be utterly useless in hearing complaints. They believe the proper way to address concerns is to remove negative reviews from Google. I had my first experience at SkyBar this past Sunday and I agree with the review below that this venue is truly awful with regards to their selective enforcement of policies with no written signs or notices of these "policies". Your entry into this establishment is solely left up to the bouncers discretion that is based on personal traits people that are discriminatory/prejudice in nature. I witnessed the bouncer Jib, charge people additional money to enter the bar (meanwhile there was no cover for entry) because of they were wearing jeans/ jean shorts, but my group of friends had on jeans and were not charged. In addition, there was no sign indicating that you couldn't have on jeans and what attire is allowed. I heard him turn away two males by telling them it was "private party upstairs" in which he lied just because of how they looked. They were dressed sloppy or rough... there was not a private party and I soon discover that when I got to the rooftop. It's really sad to see a place charge people money through discrimination. If the policies of this club should be a standard that everyone can read and see before entry that applies for EVERYONE. Not just against some races that may dress different or carry themselves in a different manner. Make your policies equal and standard across everyone!! read more

Awful service, overpriced, and a terrible DJ. He was so rude when we made a request. Totally ruined the night. He also kept playing the same songs. We were there for 2 hours and heard a lot of repeats. There was a nice crowd there, at least. The waitress we had for our table disappeared after 20 minutes and we had to keep running to the bar for drinks. We paid for bottle service so I don't think we should have had to do that. The reviews already posted speaking to the rudeness of the staff are accurate. I have never been treated as poorly at a place of business as I was at Skybar. I went here with my family to celebrate my brother's graduation from the University of Pittsburgh. To say our celebration was ruined is an understatement. We went to the rooftop level to order drinks. The bartender had an attitude from the second we approached the bar. I asked her to make a shot, she refused. She just kept saying she did not have any type of liquor or drink I asked for. If I asked for a shot she would just say "no." That was it. My brother asked what beers they had, she listed only two and refused to give him a beer list. When we finally found a shot she could actually make, we ordered five shots (there were five of us.) She said "no, four shots" .. we were confused. And then said "no, three." It was immature and confusing, like she was playing a game with us. I repeated that there were five of us and we would please like five shots. She then finally said that she would not serve my sister because she "could barely keep her eyes open." My sister was exhibiting absolutely no signs of being intoxicated... none of us were. My sister has severe allergies that sometimes make her eyes a little puffy, but she did not at all look drunk. To refuse to serve her is just unreasonable. She was talking and interacting with the bartender, and it was clear she was not intoxicated. Then the bouncer came over (why he came over? I am not sure) and was rude to my brother-in-law when he simply explained to him she was refusing us service. Her whole thing with the "no four shots, no three shots" was simply baffling and did not make sense. It was like talking to a child throwing a temper tantrum. She then told us that we should leave and go to another bar. We are polite, kind people who simply did not deserve this kind of treatment!! I spoke to a staff member on the phone about this incident who was nice and referred me to a manger, but when I reached out to him I never heard back. This place is the worst. Skybar is a great relaxing place to hang out and have a few drinks with friends. Great lounge area but also classy. I have only been in November when the roof is closed to keep the cold out. I went on a Friday night and there were probably about 15 people there at 10pm. Drinks were cheap. I recommend making a stop here next time you are in the Southside. read more

You can trust me when I say that I have been to many bars, but this was quite literally the absolute worst. Calling this location a "bar" is an insult at every bar ever. Any tequila aficionado knows that the best way to consume it is in the form of a shot, and this particular location does not sell shots. I'm sure you can imagine the outrage I am feeling. The highlight of my night was when I left, on my own accord, and went to Mario's across the street, which was actually where most of the staff recommended as it is "better than Skybar". Most of the staff I encountered where quite rude, and the owner was by far the worst. The fact that this group somehow has over a one star rating suggests that they may be ghost-writing some of the kinder reviews on this website. Overall a 0/5 experience, but sadly my grievance is limited to one star so I can't express my true feelings. Try hanging out with the homeless man outside, you'll have a better night. My $160 jacket was STOLEN from the coat room, and the management did not even care. They did not even have the respect to refund the $4 that I paid for the coat room check. This was the worst experience, and I would not recommend. read more

The absolute WORST in Pittsburgh. Take your money somewhere else, this place doesn't deserve your patronage. I spent $700 on a cabana and two bottles and was treated like a second class citizen. Skybar is staffed with morons, and the employee at the front desk fraudulently induced me into renting a cabana by stating it would cost $150 for the cabana and two bottles. I have no issue spending the extra money, but to be lied to in order to further a sale, cursed at, and violently thrown out like an animal after being scammed is insulting at best. My family and I were visiting Pittsburgh for a family reunion and decided to go out to the Skybar. I had two cousins with me (one male and one female); we were all dressed appropriately to enjoy an evening out: nice pants and tops and our male cousin had on a nice polo with a pair of white pants and matching boat shoes. Upon showing our id's to the bouncers, my male cousin was denied entry into the bar because the bouncers claimed his white pants were a violation of their dress code. They told us that management would not allow people into the bar with colored pants (i.e. red, green, blue, and apparently white). Meanwhile, plenty of people were waltzing in with torn up shorts and sneakers on, but the white pants would not be tolerated. I was very frustrated with the bouncers and explained that we were from out of town and were meeting up with other family members there. With little sympathy, they still told us he would not be allowed in. I was in the process of asking to speak to the manager, when my cousin opted we leave and go spend our money elsewhere. As visitors who have never been out in Pittsburgh before, the Skybar was an extreme disappointment and overall turn off. When expressing our frustrations to bouncers at the other bars we were informed that the Skybar constantly changes their policies and has an inconsistent dress code depending who they feel like allowing in. As African Americans, we felt very discriminated against and will NEVER return to the Skybar. read more

Went to Skybar for a friends bachelor party. The atmosphere there was awesome. I had to book the party. Adam from VIP was great and easy to deal with. He made sure everything was taken care of. The service was great. Overall I enjoyed it there for my third time being there. I'd like to check it out during the day. I heard it is a good time. read more
