Love this place SO much. We recently joined their new monthly membership plan which is such a deal! We did the elite option which is $34.99 a month at the moment and includes unlimited jumping, free admission to events, and a soda and popcorn each time you go. This place is immaculate, the staff is UNBELIEVABLY friendly, and it's a great way for families to get some cardio and fun in. Birthday parties get their own room, and it seems like a popular venue. So far it's never been so crowded that it took away from our enjoyment. Lockers cost $1 to rent and the only thing I dislike is that if you need to go back to get something, once you open the locker you need to pay again to lock it back up. I learned that the hard way!

Membership prices are within if not slight lower than average which is great for beginners trying to stick to something new. On my first visit, the staff was very helpful and provided a tour of their facilities, and explained ground rules clearly. Having been to other gyms while in Texas it's always nice to see staff explain simple do's and don't's to new visitors. My only concern is regarding kids running under or too close to the walls while climbers are on them, as the parents are either not aware or unfazed of the dangers to both their kid and the climbers. It would be nice to see staff address this to the parents. Overall great gym, amazingly friendly and helpful staff, facilities are always cleaned, and the climbing community is one of the most supportive out there!

Compared to my home location, I felt that their bouldering had a great mix of problems catering to varying different skill levels. I checked the website and it said that both locations had 3,000 square feet of bouldering. This Warwick location felt like it was bigger and had more, but who knows! For those that have not been here, there is bouldering that is on the right wall upon entering that extends to the back and wraps to the left. Then there is some lead belay walls right across the main bouldering. Off to the left are more top rope and auto belay walls. They also have a fitness center with gym equipment as well as a wall with all types of holds to practice on/learn hold types. Lastly, there is a yoga studio that is available to members. I really enjoyed the variety and the set up of this location. Visiting different locations is definitely fun and I'll be back whenever I'm in the area itching to climb.

The gym has a good amount of bouldering, mainly intermediate V4-6 and some top-roping with quite a few autobelay routes. There are yoga classes twice a week which is included in a membership though I have yet to try a class. Otherwise, it's a fairly standard climbing gym with interesting climbs, especially for beginner and intermediate climbers. They have a room full of bike racks as soon as you walk in which is nice, as someone who bikes to the gym. The facility is pretty large with a lounging area, training areas, plenty of storage space, and clean bathrooms. You do have to bring your own chalk (or rent gear which comes with chalk), and the chalk that is for sale in the store is not that great in my opinion and doesn't fully coat the fingers.

It's suitable for all skill levels - even true beginners. I love that they have a tier level below v0 which has made it so much easier to get introduced to climbing. They also have top roping at this location along with all sorts of classes and an event space! The only drawback of this place is that it does tend to get crowded in the evenings during peak times and also there's almost guaranteed for there to always be a few kids birthday parties over the weekends but generally it's contained to one area of the gym so it's not too distracting.

The Central Rock Gym separates their routes using hold colors which is much better than gyms that put stickers near each route. The gym is clean and staff if very friendly. My interaction with the staff has always been a pleasant one; they definitely know what they're…read moredoing and are definitely passionate about rock climbing. The facilities are also well-maintained since they are clean and properly managed. My biggest concern for this place, however, is the affordability of the memberships. I'm sure the up-keeping of the facility can be expensive, but the prices only attract a particular group of people. Perhaps this is intentional; I am always looking for places that seek to incorporate diversity, both economically and racially. Keeping up with the monthly membership price is surely not sustainable for someone who lives off minimum wage or, even for someone who makes a bit more. Thus, though this can be a fun and safe place for the community, it lacks the actual representation of the latter. Moreover, no incentive programs currently exist to make this place a bit more affordable for the average working-class family in the city. Now, while they do have a family plan, it is exclusively for immediate family. I tried to create a membership with my older brothers but, was told that the family membership was only for my spouse and children. of which I have neither. This is truly a disappointment since with the single membership, you can only bring a guest with you once a month; after that there is a fee. So, if you're someone like me, who likes to bring a friend along to help with climbing or to encourage you with working out, this isn't the place for you. Unless of course, you friend wants to purchase a membership, too. But again, it´s just not cost-efficient or worth it for the average low/medium income person. But, for those of you who make a good amount of money, this place can definitely be worth it. They offer a wide range of workout classes and opportunities to get better at rock climbing. You'll just want to make sure you're taking advantage of everything- to make the dollar count. Overall, I really enjoy rock climbing, and this facility is truly well-managed and maintained. It has a lot of potential to actively engage with the community it's in; however, whether intentional or not, it greatly lacks in being a racially and economically diverse space. This is truly unfortunate for a place as fun and engaging as this one can be. Frankly, it's intimidating when you can count, with one hand, the number of people of color during a typical night, or even to witness the non-existence of the lower/ lower-middle class. And if you're from Worcester, you know it's a large community they're keeping out, a community that is greatly diverse. This facility has the opportunity to bring people together, but unfortunately, the prices hinder this from doing so and have instead, settled for just one particular group. And oh! the prices just recently went up $5.00 for all memberships.

I figure, if I have to pay the fee anyway I may as well give the place a shot. The Rec Center has a large pool, an indoor track, weight room on the first floor, cardio room on the second. There is also an area right when you walk in where you can sit and study. The cardio area is nice because it has really large windows that let light in. It can get hot if you're in the sunlight for too long, but if you mention it the staff can lower some automatic blinds. The shower/ locker room is clean enough. The initial activation process was a hassle because you have to sign an electronic waiver, but you can only access it after watching a safety video and the ric mobile site is pure trash and does not load properly. The woman working the front desk was nice enough to let me use her work computer to complete the process. All in all the whole place is adequate and if your a student at RIC that wants to work out you should use this space.

It's a beautiful, brand new facility that is clean and has a decent amount of equipment. To highlight key points: - Free weights go up to 100 lbs (in increments of 5 lbs) - 2 squat racks - 5 bench press stations (2 incline, 1 decline, and 2 flat bench) - Indoor pool and track field - Plenty of cardio machines upstairs - Decent amount of machines specific to muscle groups (ex: Lat pull down and seated chest press machines). - Clean locker rooms and bathrooms I only have two complaints. One would be the lack of attachments that go along with the jungle pulleys. There are no straight bars, row bars, or v-handles. That truly deters from having variety in a workout and in a away, takes away from a quality workout as well. Additionally, there aren't any unique machines here. It's pretty standard equipment and nothing out of the ordinary. Secondly, the hours of operation need more consistency. The gym is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 AM, yet every other day of the week (including Friday), they open at 7 AM? Weird. But, it's definitely worth your time to come here. The Rec Center fee per semester is reasonable, and it's such a convenience. I'd recommend this gym to any Rhode Island College student or faculty member, encouraging them to make use of it.
