My grandpa lived at MorningStar Littleton for a little under a year and I never once felt like my…read morefamily or my grandfather was loved or cared about. Overall, most of the staff made us feel like we were a burden or didn't even acknowledge us. We had several issues with nurses and caretakers. Whenever we asked for something, it was never addressed in a timely manner. There were so many times that we would go to visit grandpa and find him laying in soiled clothes and linens. There were so many times that we would come to visit in the early afternoon and his blinds were still closed, with his breakfast still wrapped in Saran Wrap on his tray. There was no way that my grandpa's hands were able to take off the wrap even if he wanted to eat his food. Frequently, there was feces on his commode, on his pull up bar by his bed, and on his tray. It was dry and had clearly been there for a very long time with no one bothering to clean it up. It saddens me to think that his fears of a "nursing home" were realized during his stay at your facility. My parents and I have many pictures of the disgraceful and unsanitary conditions my grandpa was living in. My dad would come every day, often twice a day, to check on him and make sure he had everything he needed - food, water, clean clothes, clean bedding, etc. because we believe that my grandpa needed extra support that wasn't being offered to him from the staff at MorningStar Littleton. I am not sure why MorningStar Littleton failed so miserably in living up to the promises of dignity, care, and respect that they promised my grandpa, and my family. Perhaps it was because of the lack of staff during the trying Covid days? Maybe the staff lacked sufficient training? Perhaps the former leadership was at fault? I'm not sure what the reason was, but I believe that my grandpa deserved a better last year of his life, and I would not recommend MorningStar Littleton to other families who are forced to place their loved one in a facility like MorningStar. Simply put, I wouldn't want someone else's loved one to be treated the way my grandpa and our family was. Regularly, the staff would be in their offices, either talking amongst themselves or "on their computer", rarely engaging with residents or their families. If we needed anything, I felt like we had to go looking for help. My dad tried to show pictures of the inhuman and dirty conditions my grandpa was living in to one of the lead staff members and his response to my dad was, "I don't want to see any more of your pictures." This staff member was always very rude to our family and I believe my grandfather paid too much money for us all to be treated so terribly by him. He came in to see my grandpa on his last day of life and I wished he wouldn't have. This employee never showed care for my grandpa and I felt it was very disingenuous for him to "care" now. I have felt these feelings for the past year and I BEGGED my parents to move my grandfather to another facility that was smaller, where he would be cared for and receive more attention, but they were afraid it would be too hard on my grandpa to move him. They were afraid to say anything to the staff because when they did, they were either ignored, shut down, or we were afraid that my grandpa would be "punished" and receive less care. I have a close friend who places elderly loved ones in assisted living facilities and every time we discussed the care my grandfather was receiving, she would reply with "That's awful. They should be doing more for him and your family." I feel like our expectations were never met, let alone exceeded. The only thing I felt like MorningStar Littleton did right was the way they escorted his body, after passing, in the casket out of the building with the staff lined up to honor him. But even that left a sour taste in my mouth. MorningStar never communicated to my family that they would treat my grandpa to this meaningful gesture so we weren't able to be there as a family to partake. We had no idea, and my sisters and I were not there to see his body in the casket, escorted out of the building with the respect I believe your staff never gave him when he was alive. I was so sad when my mom told me that my grandfather was honored in this way and I wasn't able to witness it. Don't get me wrong, not everything was terrible. A few of the care takers were kind, considerate, and caring, but would disappeared after a bit. I'm not sure if they left or were reassigned elsewhere? I always say that I want to live my life without regrets, but honestly, I do regret that I didn't fight harder to find my grandpa a better place to live with people who actually cared for him, in a place where it wasn't just their "job".

After bringing Mom back the next day, she sees what life can be like outside of sitting at home. We now have her on a waiting list, hoping to move in fall of 2015. I cannot comment first hand on the staff or services as we are not there yet, but from what I saw, the staff is friendly, knows all the residents by name and is truly there to make their lives fun and interesting. Will post again after we move in and find out first hand all of the options Lakeview has to offer.

There are other, more value driven places that are equal or better. I'm living in one now. I am much happier now than when I was at the Ridge. * Paper thin ceilings and walls. In any apartment you hear everyday noises as if they are in the room with you. There is nothing you can do about it. If you try to escape the noise and live on the top floor of the Summit, there is some kind of loud machine noise from above the ceiling. If you spend the night trying out the apartments, make sure someone has an apartment above yours to experience the noise factor. * They are more partial to dogs than cats. * Lack of signage both interior and exterior of the Summit Bldg. The main door to the Summit is in an alley without direction. Signage problems have been discussed with management, but still were not corrected after my 1.5 years living there. The Ridge building entrance is lovely, but I consider the Summit building entrance the "step child". * They have one health and wellness center and one cinema, although the website says there are more than one. * Long waits for maintenance help probably due to so much employee turnover, as in most departments. * There are resident/management meetings. Notes are taken and distributed to residents. Everything goes under "management advisement" with very little change or timely change for the residents. Recently residents asked for a furniture arrangement change in the Summit. Management denied the request stating it couldn't be done, even after residents showed how it could happen. Residents wanted this change so that conversations between them could more easily occur. Why doesn't management want solutions that will aid in the residents comfort, safety and enjoyment of their lives at little to no cost? The Ridge Pinehurst is a for profit making institution and investment. Perhaps they should invest in nonhuman entities that don't require such humane responsiveness from them. * Only recently was 24/7 concierge coverage provided at the Summit building after many complaints. There was no response from management to my letter of complaint about this issue. They require 30 days written notice upon exit, yet my letter of intent was never acknowledged by them, as I requested. * Food: Along with required rent is required payment for food of $450/month/person on a "use it or lose it" basis. If you don't eat the food, you still pay for it. If you eat the food, expect that $450/month won't cover both breakfast and lunch or dinner. Breakfast is about $10, lunch or dinner meals are approximately $16-20. PanoVista meals offered once or twice a month vary $50 plus. The sample website menu is a possible PanoVista menu, NOT an example of the regular menu. Ask to see a monthly menu. If you exceed the $450, you are billed for it. Many pork and chicken meals are served. The food is mediocre to me and many other people. No food is cooked rare, mostly medium or well done. People complain that the expensive PanoVista meals are served cold. Few choices for vegetarians. There is a weekly vegetarian offering, but they have considered pancakes as a choice for a week. In all fairness, they do have "Always Available" menu choices. Again, ask to see a monthly, regular menu as well as their "Always Available" menu. * Lifeloop is the online system for residents to learn of activities and their updates, register for activities, and make maintenance and transportation requests. Residents are able to message other residents and staff. One needs to be fairly proficient in using a smart phone, tablet or computer. They use residents, as myself, to voluntarily tutor other residents on computers, smart phones and lifeloop on a one-to-one basis. There is another computerized system you need to use to order meals and make reservations. Concierges will input information for residents if they are available. Can be overwhelming for those who are not proficient. People who register for activities using lifeloop will be allowed entrance to the activity before those who have not registered on lifeloop. There may not be any room left. * Don't believe everything their website says and don't just believe what they say in their shiny sales pitch. If visiting, use your due diligence and ask the residents what they like and dislike. Ask to see their "unique dining concepts" that they advertise on their website - ask to see the locations, menus and prices, hours and days of operation. * When your rent is raised, ask yourself if you are receiving that percentage of increases in your lifestyle.

The facility is nice to look at but there are so many improvements that could be made (and dont get me started on the "sports bar"!)

My 91-y/o Dad was placed in RMAL at the Quincy/Wadsworth location on October 10th. Long-time Alzheimer's patient who had recently been subject to too many falls to safely be kept at home any more. RMAL came to us highly recommended for his well-being and care. We in no way blame them for his quick passing, but instead the heartless lack of respect he received AFTER his death, and their callous lack of compassion for us, his family. Dad passed early in the morning of October 13th. He was left to lay on the floor, completely bare save for a diaper, and uncovered for at least an hour after he was attended to by paramedics. ON THE FLOOR - UNCOVERED!! WE WERE NEVER NOTIFIED OF HIS PASSING, and my brother found him on a video camera inside the room. Upon his calling the home himself, he was told, "Sorry, he's gone". Upon arrival at the facility within 40 min., he found Dad on the floor, in aforementioned condition, and covered him himself with his comforter. NO CALLS to my Mom or either of us children listed as emergency contacts. NOT ONE. And my Dad ON THE FLOOR, LEFT BARE AND UNCOVERED, FOR AN HOUR. Three days later, upon our arrival to remove belongings, we walked in to all his sheets laying crumpled in the middle of the bed, filled with his BODILY FLUIDS. NOT BAGGED - JUST LAYING ON THE MIDDLE OF THE BED (he had obviously been placed back on the bed after my brother left, at some point before the mortuary arrived - no coroner arrived to pronounce him, either). STILL no calls from anyone at the facility, THREE DAYS AFTER THE FACT. They chose to correspond only via text message. UNBAGGED, BIO-HAZARDOUS WASTE MATERIALS left in a room of a nursing home filled with other patients, for THREE DAYS! We were charged with removing the soiled sheets ourselves. Horrific treatment of my beloved Dad and the family who cared for him. They blamed the paramedics for zero phone calls. RMAL collected their fees and THEY were responsible for calling to let us know. They were also charged with caring for my Dad when we couldn't be there (we had been at the facility with him for 8 hours each of the three days he was there). NO COMPASSION OR DIGNITY WAS SHOWN TO THIS SWEET MAN! If I can save ONE person from this heartbreak in the future, it will be my life's goal from here on out!

Our Family's Experience With This Facility I normally don't…read moreleave reviews, but I feel it's important to share our family's experience so others can make informed decisions. We chose this rehab facility because it was close to home and one of the few in the state willing to accept patients on TPN. Unfortunately, our experience was extremely difficult from start to finish. Throughout my family member's stay, the facility consistently felt understaffed, and many of the issues we encountered seemed to stem from that. His room had maintenance problems, including a non-working toilet and sink at various points. We also saw mice in the room, which was deeply concerning. Basic care needs were frequently missed. We often found him in soiled conditions, including times when he was in his own feces. His call button was often placed out of reach, and we would regularly find his cell phone on the far side of the room, where he couldn't get to it if he needed help. Urinals were sometimes left on the floor under his bed, completely inaccessible, causing him to resort to urinating in water bottles. Belongings were another ongoing issue. Even after we told staff that our family would handle his laundry, his clothing and blankets continued to go missing. We spent hundreds of dollars replacing labeled items that never returned. Because he is a TPN patient, he requires timely and skilled administration, especially at night. Many of the night-shift staff appeared to be from outside agencies, and several times his TPN was not started on time because they struggled to operate the equipment. His venting G-tube bag was also frequently found completely full. During a visit to his oncologist, she wanted to start him on IV antibiotics right away. For four days we tried to reach staff to coordinate this, but no one returned calls--only later did they report that their phone system was down. When we finally got answers and checked on him, his G-tube was full of bloody fluid and not draining properly. He had been vomiting blood, and it had gone unnoticed. One of the most alarming issues was the severe understaffing. We were originally told that the ratio was supposed to be one CNA for every seven patients, which already felt like a heavy load considering the level of care required. However, during multiple visits we learned that the CNA on duty was responsible for 18 patients at once. It was impossible for anyone to provide safe or attentive care under those conditions. This extreme staffing shortage clearly contributed to the missed medications, delayed TPN, hygiene issues, and lack of response to call lights that we saw throughout his stay. He also experienced multiple infections during his stay, which caused him to spend more time in the hospital than in rehab. This completely defeated the purpose of placing him there to regain strength. Each hospitalization set him back further--weakening him, accelerating muscle loss, and preventing him from receiving any meaningful rehabilitation. My dad did have a terminal cancer and we all knew there would be no fix but I truly believe if he had received the rehab he was there for we would have had more time with him. I truly wish our experience had been different. The few staff members who were kind and attentive clearly cared, but the overall conditions and lack of reliable care left us feeling unsafe and unsupported. Based on what we went through, highly recommend considering if this is the right place for your loved one.
