From the beginning, this facility kept contacting me every couple of months, asking if I had made a decision and pushing for my business. When I was finally ready to move my sister, I met again with the coordinator, who assured me there would be no problems. We did the assessment over FaceTime, and that's where the red flags started. The nurse seemed fixated on the fact that my sister doesn't like to take showers--something that is extremely common with Alzheimer's patients--yet showed no real concern for her actual care needs. At that time, my sister wasn't on a medication schedule, which I explained, but instead of asking important questions, the nurse didn't even bother to meet my sister until I pushed for it. When she finally did, she spoke to her for a few seconds and abruptly ended the call. A few days later, the facility contacted me to say my sister wasn't a "good fit" because of her hygiene. That told me everything I needed to know. If a so-called memory care facility doesn't even understand that hygiene challenges are a direct symptom of dementia, they are not equipped to care for Alzheimer's patients--period. Their lack of basic knowledge and dismissive attitude made it clear they had no idea what they were doing.

You know our beloved older family members living in a retirement home like Springbrooke have very little to look forward to, yet the one thing they have to look forward to is good food. At Springbrooke they are failing miserably at this, the soup I had was absolutely bland, had no seasoning and was cold, and I mean cold, not even warm. My Chicken was severly overcooked, flavorless, un seasoned and literally so dry I dont think there is enough sauce in Denver to help it. The vegetables were un seasoned, they obviously came out of a frozen bag, and were cooked to the point of being MUSH. My aunt said this was par for the course and told me that breakfast is even worse. Our server, an Ethiopian lady who was at least pleasant, when I complained about how dry and horrible my chicken was explained to me "That is how our chef cooks the chicken here, that is how our residents like it" and did nothing to even offer me something else or to replace it with a better piece of chicken. * My Aunt told me that they are now on the 3rd or 4th Chef since she has been there in only 2.5 years, she said when she moved in the food was average, then she explained the food was absolutely wonderful for around 6-9 months when they hired a great chef, but then that Chef quit and the new chef is absolutely horrendous. I hope someone in a position of power reads this and can talk to the chef. My Aunt likely does not have long left on earth, and we want her to get the most enjoyment she can in the time she has left, and the poor quality of food, the dirty living conditions, and the lackluster and poorly trained dining staff are not going to achieve that.... Most appreciated are the staff, which are service oriented across the business. We've had many interactions with staff at all levels and find them knowledgable, caring and attentive. Executive Direct Fanny Rouse is hands-on, accessible and very involved with residents and their families and truly seems invested in providing a safe and comfortable experience. Trails right outside to walk, are abundant and also very nice as you walk thru the park right there/golf course. Different sized Rooms make up assisted living (AL) --studio, 1 BR, 2 BR. Memory care (MC) only has 2 sizes of studios--385 and 520 sq feet. The views you have contribute to the price as well. They also have Assisted Living with their Essentials support, provides a bridge between AL and MC. Food is pretty nice. Heritage week was being offered where unique foods from other areas around the world were being featured. Service was pretty great. Kind, compassionate when talking to residents. Beautiful set-up with dishes being offered on display as you walk in. Love the front desk team. All super nice and energetic. Very knowledgable and helpful. A nice sized theater for movies. Arts and crafts room. Library space. Outside deck/seats and tables with a very calming and beautiful view. Exercise class in the morning and other activities throughout the day. The atmosphere felt warm and welcoming, and the staff truly seemed to care about the residents. My aunt moved in about a year ago, and it was a huge adjustment - she had been living independently and had no plans to move. The team at CHAL went above and beyond to help her settle in and feel comfortable in her new home. They were patient, kind, and always took the time to make sure she was doing okay. The home care service I was using at the time referred me to Phil Hotaling and what a blessing that was! Phil helped me understand so many issues when it came to being in assisted living and what was and what was not provided. He arranged visits with different homes and together we toured each one. He guided me through the questions and issues pertinent to each home. I selected a wonderful place for Mom! The assisted living home has room for 8 residents and is run by a fantastic couple who live there with their two children.
