Chicken Gyro Mini with Tzatziki sauce and onions
Nivia B.

Chicken Gyro simply has no flavor at all no seasoning I'm so disappointed because the regular hype is are good

Smelled the grill all the way from the parking lot of the Salvation Army as I was leaving and decided to stop in to see if I could grab a snack. Was happy to see that they have a mini gyros option that comes on a smaller pita as I had big dinner plans for later. The dining room was really clean and there is lots of seating available. I also liked some of the more unique menu options they had compared to other gyro/beef spots. The staff was very friendly with me and all of the other customers they interacted with. The 4 stars is only because the gyro wasn't really as good as others in my opinion. Not sure how to explain it but the meat just seemed to be seasoned differently than what I am used to and look for in a gyro. I could see how others might actually prefer Skippy's but it just didn't do it for me. I'd probably stop in to Skippy's again but would want to try other things.

The charbroiled chicken sandwich. You're joking right? Where's the other half?
Scott F.

The gyro is always good, but trying to broaden horizons and went with a charbroiled chicken sandwich for $8.29. Lesson learned.

DEALS D.

Not sure how this place is still in business. The food was expensive and terrible. At least if you pay the price you can get what you pay for. The inside was disgusting the floor was never washed dirt everywhere. Absolutely terrible. Waste of money. Will never return. Either fix it or just shut it down.

Slow service. Food was way too salty. I've tried this place several times now and I have never been impressed.

Double R Dogs - Southwest Grilled Chicken Wrap $14 w/side of fries

Cute space! Local residents opening a local shop after success with their double R bbq food truck…read more I know this family gives back to the Hampshire/Pingree community; for example donating hot dogs to the Whips between a recent double header. There are maybe 20 seats if you want to dine in, including a row facing the downtown drag of Hampshire. This is my second time here. First time I just got tenders. They were fine. Not my son's favorite, but I'm sure fine for most kids. Today was a much better order. Today I got the Southwest chicken wrap. Half tonight for dinner and half tomorrow for lunch, it's a healthy portion. The Southwest dressing is amazing, decent spice level; between mild and medium. The chicken was sooooo good! Grilled, tender, not overly seasoned, excellent! The tortilla chips in the wrap are so crunchy. Loved them. There was also black beans, onion, lettuce and tomato. Also corn, did not love, felt canned, but overall excellent order! My son got a hot dog! Excellent dog for $4. Great snap, beef dog with excellent flavor and a steamed poppy seed bun. Lastly are the fries that came with the wrap. Nice portion size. Not the nicest flavor. A bit dry nor salty enough. They are fresh cut, and look like they could rival Beef Shack, but not yet. I would swap the side if I had a choice. That said, the wrap is great, and I will go back to try other ones as well!

Great food! Cheap for larger families and definitely kid friendly. Always a go to at our houseread more

I really wanted to like Steamers, especially because it has the feel of a local community spot, but…read morethe experience was surprisingly disappointing before I even got to the food. The reception at the counter was ice cold. My order was marked as ready, yet I watched what turned out to be my food sit in the window for several minutes before finally asking if it was mine. No welcome, no thank you, no "sorry about the wait" or acknowledgment that it had been sitting there. Unfortunately, the order itself felt just as thrown together. The fries were cold and mushy, the barbecue sauce somehow ended up with the gyros, and very little seemed organized or thoughtfully prepared. They didn't appear especially busy, which made the whole experience harder to understand. The saving grace was the ribs. These were genuinely good: tender, flavorful, smoky, and the kind of ribs where you keep going back for one more bite even after the rest of the meal has disappointed you. The mobile ordering system asks for a tip. I'm usually very happy to tip, but this was one of those experiences where even the basics of friendly service felt missing. I wanted this to be a great local find. Instead, the ribs were the bright spot in an otherwise pretty cold experience.

The sun stretched across the pavement like it had personally returned to remind everyone what happiness felt like. The air was crisp, cinematic almost. I had just finished demolishing a bowl at Chipotle when, in the distance, glowing like a beacon of hope to hungry travelers, I spotted the legendary Scooby's sign. Curiosity took over immediately. I wandered into the establishment in search of Scooby snacks. The atmosphere was charming, nostalgic, and wonderfully chaotic in the best way possible. I asked for a paper menu and a few recommendations for the next time I stopped by. Little did I know destiny would return me there in less than 24 hours. The previous night had been a reckless adventure through the city. Loud music, shots, questionable decisions, the usual. The next morning I awoke slightly dehydrated but not hungover because, quite frankly, I am built different. Starving and operating purely on instinct, I prayed Scooby's would be open. Miraculously, it was. As I approached the restaurant, I could hear the passionate echo of a woman enthusiastically yelling into a microphone at what appeared to be a nearby high school graduation ceremony. I stepped inside and was greeted by a smile that honestly made it difficult to remember I came there for food. I asked for a recommendation and was directed toward the gyro meal with jalapeños on the side. What arrived before me was not merely a gyro. It was a colossal, magnificent monument to human achievement. The thing was enormous. Overflowing with flavor, perfectly seasoned meat, fresh toppings, warm pita, and enough character to deserve its own Netflix special. I have eaten gyros from many places, including spots run by Greeks themselves, and somehow this glorious beast stood above them all. The interior of the restaurant felt oddly familiar, almost like a real-life Krusty Krab tucked away in the suburbs. Naturally, I felt spiritually obligated to order what could only be described as a Krabby Patty equivalent. The hamburger arrived beautifully grilled, juicy, smoky, and crafted with the kind of precision reserved for aircraft engineering. Scooby's is not just a restaurant. It is an experience. A beautiful fever dream fueled by hunger, nostalgia, jalapeños, and exceptional customer service.

The food here never disappoints. Burgers, hot dogs, and the chicken gyros are so good! The prices…read morecan stack up quickly for a burger joint, but the food is good.

This was my third time ordering the dogs. The first two were boiled, like most Chicago dog places do it. This time I asked at the drivethrough if they'd run the dogs through the grill the way they do the sausage. First answer was no: "it makes them taste bad, they get all blistered." But then when i confirmed this is exactly what id like, he said "I'll do it for you this time, but they might not next time." I appreciate that he did it. But I didn't love being made to feel like a jerk for asking for something simple, and the premise is wrong. Boiling a dog adds nothing. Fire adds flavor. That's the Maillard reaction, it's why nobody eats a sous vide steak straight out of the bag without searing it, and it's what Michelin kitchens are built on. The concept dates back when humans figured out how to start fires. The results backed it up: the charred dogs were sensational, vastly better than the boiled ones I'd had before. If I owned this place, I'd make "char-grilled" a standard option on the menu and on DoorDash tomorrow. Blindfold 100 people and hand them one of each, and I'd bet 80-85 pick the char. The boiling tradituon was born out of convenience and cost, not flavor. If the answer had been no, I'd have skipped the dogs entirely, and if this really is a one-time favor, I'll stick to the sausage from here on. Water dogs are a no from me-a Chicago tradution that should be retired.
