We came to the restaurant on jet skis. They have great dark side access. We visited in September which is peak hurricane season and not many people but the bar was full. I had the grouper sandwich and it was pretty decent. The next drinks were excellent. My wife had a dark and stormy which is recommended. read more

Skippers is one place I've been going to for years it's 5 minutes from my house and it's a place that has good drinks and bar food. Just left the place right now and I extremely disappointed, we ordered drinks and appetizers the drinks took 20 minutes to serve and the out of the appetizers only two made it to or table. After a wait we went to the bar to pick up our own limes for our main course. Food great fantastic! Conch fritters excellent and the sauce excellent as well. Highly recommend it! Stopped in here last night for dinner with my wife. If you looking for a nice quiet place with a nice water view, boats and tropical atmosphere, you need to check this place out. Our server was super nice and our food came out really fast which was a nice surprise. We stayed at a Holiday Inn next-door so we were able to just walk across the grass to the restaurant and we sat outside with a nice view. My wife wasn't that hungry so she just had a bowl of French onion soup and I had a veggie wrap with the seasoned fries and mango coleslaw. No complaints it was all good and I would come back next time I'm in the area Two thumbs up. read more

The hostess was about to seat us, but then after we waited a few minutes, a server told us they were still cleaning our table, but that the hostess would seat us as soon as it was finished. A bit later the hostess returned and told us that the manager had told her there would be a thirty minute hold. No one explained why there was suddenly a wait. There were empty tables. Very very good! It was very busy but the food came out timely and the staff was very nice and helpful. I started with a house salad and honey mustard which was very good and the fish dip is delicious. The mahi sandwich on a bed of lettuce was so fresh and the onions it comes with are delicious. This was a solidly 4 star experience. The service was friendly but SO SLOW. My meal, the vegetable wrap, was fairly reasonably priced and really yummy. The fish dishes, however, are ridiculously overpriced for what they are in my opinion. The drinks were pretty and delicious and the restaurant was really cute. Love the vibe here. It's on a canal, so no sunset views here, but it does have a great tiki bar vibe, delicious drinks, and an awesome Mahi sandwich! This is more of your low key bar type food, but what they do have is done perfectly. I knew right away the Mahi Sandwich and truffle fries was the right thing. We also got the smoked fish dip. That was easy to polish off. I highly recommend their key lime colada if you like key lime. read more

Food is alright but the price was insane! What do you mean I have to leave a 30 dollar MANDATORY tip. We had gotten 4 plates and it came out to a total of 180 including the tip. No apps, no nothing. The food was nice but the portions was not worth 180 haha. Service was kind and sweet but the kitchen was slow. Maybe it's a pet peeve but telling the entire table that the food will be out in a minute but it was actually half an hour is a bit annoying. In the keys, all you need are water views, good company and good food. Thankfully, Skipper's provides two out of three - so just add friends and you're in for a nice afternoon dockside. Spent the long weekend in the keys and wanted to enjoy a lunch before heading back to Miami. A friend suggested Skipper's, which is accessible by boat or by car. There is plenty of outdoor seating, and much of it is shaded which is awesome. They have happy hour daily from 3 - 7 so we ordered a few beers and they were hella cheap - I thin $3 from what I remember for domestic bottles. Happy hour also has some apps on the menu, but we didn't opt for any of those. I opted for a burger which was super good. Service was excellent, and I would definitely go back! read more

Discombobulated. That's how I would describe this place. The food is ok.- kind of like a bunch of other places. It's not bad but nothing stuck out as Wow! The issue was the service. Granted we were a party of 10 on a Saturday night- but it's their slow season and the place wasn't packed. In fact there wasn't a wait. The hostess gave my sister-in-law attitude for asking if we could sit together inside. She claimed it would take forever to clean the tables - so our party would have to be seated at 2 separate tables outside. Which was ok - it was a nice outside for a July evening. After we were seated it was about 10 -15 min and the waiter came over gave out silverware roll ups and said he'd be back with water for everyone. Sat for another 10-15 mins before the water came. Then another 10 min before he took our order. It was weird because after he took my brother's family's order - he just walked off and disappeared for 5min before returning to take our order. We ordered alcoholic drinks, appetizers and meals. It was another 15 min before we got our drinks. Then we waited and waited for the apps. My guess is it was at least 30 minutes (that's a conservative guess) before the food was delivered- all the food (for half the table). The apps came out with the food! We were so hungry we just accepted it. My side of the table (3 of us on each side- the other 4 sat at another table)- came out 10 min later. The waiter didn't check on us after the food was served. My brother went to the bar and refilled his own tea! We were considering ordering desserts but decided the wait wasn't worth it. For 3 adults our bill before tip was $98.00. We ordered an appetizer, 1 drink, 1 beer, a burger, mahi sandwich and flatbread. So this place isn't cheap. Not super expensive but not cheap. My brother who owns a small business, complained to the manager about how bad the service was and a messed up charge on his bill. They refunded $45. I should have done that! I don't see how this place stays in business. It is next to a resort area and a marina so I'm guessing the bar does well. The staff is poorly trained. If the kitchen is backed up - let us know. There was no communication. There appeared to be little or no concern from the staff about customer service. No checking on us - nothing. I understand it is difficult to get people to work in the Keys. Housing is crazy expensive so most commute from Homestead or Florida City. But how someone can operate a restaurant with little regard to service is mind boggling. And again- this is the slow season. I'd spend your money elsewhere. Unless you don't mind waiting a long time for food and being ignored by staff. Then you'll be fine. read more

I live in Miami and have been making the 1hr+ drive every few months to eat at Skippers for the last 7 years. I've taken so many friends and family, celebrated numerous birthdays (including my own) and everyone I ever took there, left obsessed with their food, making them repeat customers. Today, unfortunately, will be the last day anyone in our party of 9 will go back. About a month ago, they got a new Head Chef who changed their menu entirely. Everything that was amazing about Skippers is now gone. Beginning with their phenomenal fried calamari that used to come with this sweet and sour type sauce, it was by far my favorite calamari ever and I have eaten a lot of calamari in my life. This is now an ordinary, dry, sauce-less dish. This was the biggest let down. The conch fritters and smoked fish dip which were our next favorite things have also changed. They didn't taste the same, they now serve tortilla chips instead of the delicious crackers with the fish dips and the conch fritters no longer have the little spicy sauce they used to put over it or the delicious dipping sauce it used to come with. My favorite (and only pasta) on the old menu was also removed, it used to be a linguini with sun dried tomatoes and olives. This was now replaced by a completely different pasta which I saw numerous guests around us leave the majority of it untouched. My husband used to order a Risotto from the old menu, that was also removed so he ordered the Pan Seared Grouper and it was more potatoes than anything else. I do not recommend this dish unless you want to stay hungry and angry from the "Market Price" price you will pay for a plate of potatoes. The one great thing was our server, he was very nice, apologetic about the fact that everything we expected to order was gone and was very attentive to our drink refills. We expressed our concern over all the changes to him and and said many other guests have complained as well. My suggestion to management if you are seeing this, is why did you change a menu that was already perfect? Your menu was already pretty limited but you were almost guaranteed to love anything you chose from it. It's very unfortunate that you have allowed your entire menu to be changed and you are losing loyal customer everyday. read more

Amazing afternoon spent at Skippers Dockside. Nya, Laurie and Dennis (bartenders) were amazing and provided great service. We had the sweet and spicy wings, as well as the calamari. So came here because our hotel is in walking distance. We had a waitress that had an attitude from the word go! She , Taniesha, seemed as though we were a bother even though we tried to not have much to do with her. That really set the mood. We ordered a flat bread pizza that was actually delicious. My husband got a salad and I got the shrimp po boy. The shrimp were tiny and just not impressed. The salad was ok. The waitress really ruined our dining experience so we will never be back nor recommend this place. read more

Cool spot to listen to some low key music with or after dinner. The bartenders are generally attentive although they can get distracted by other staff and customers. While on a boat tour, I heard this Caribbean-styled music, and the music was coming from a restaurant. That restaurant was this restaurant, so I had to stop. I'm so glad I did - everything was wonderful. The food was delicious, the service was great, and there were no cleanliness issues. First, the food. I ordered a bowl of their Conch Chowder, their Conch Fritters, and their Coconut Shrimp. All were incredibly good, especially the sauce that comes with the coconut shrimp - it's a must try. My Rating for this Category: 5/5 Second, the service. The waiter that I had was extremely friendly and attentive. He had an energetic personality, and he made sure all of the waters on the table were full as it was an incredibly hot, humid, and sunny day. The food took about fifteen minutes to come out, but the views of the canal made that feel faster. My Rating for this Category: 5/5 Finally, the cleanliness. There were no cleanliness issues that I saw. Nothing - such as silverware, dishes, the table, the chairs - was sticky. There were no bugs in my food (I have had this happen before at other restaurants). All of the food that needed to be hot came out hot. My Rating for this Category: 5/5 After hearing the fun music from this restaurant off of a tour, I am so happy that I stopped. On a Saturday, they even had live music, which is always a nice touch. The food was great, there was fantastic service, and there were no cleanliness issues.
