I took a group of rainbows to visit the Skip Garden last week, and they loved it! It is like a mini oasis amidst the building madness North of Kings Cross.
- They have a pool! It was set up as an art installation, and uses pants to filter the water. You have to book online to swim there.
- There is a viewing platform where you can look down over Kings Cross and all the new buildings
- They have chickens (the rainbows loved them!)
- They grow sooo many herbs, fruits and plants in skips! It is an ingenious use of space.
- At the moment several artists are building things around the back - I guess it'll get more interesting as they finish them.
- There is a cafe selling snacks using the ingredients that they grow.
- They get local children involved in growing things outside the new build flats on York Way.
* You can see a sign for the old Skip garden on York Way...but the actual garden has moved slightly further around.
** The rainbows (aged 5-7) LOVED this place, so I think it would be good to take other children. They are not normally open after 6pm, but you can visit at the weekend. read more
