We did have a drink in the pub a few days earlier, when we enjoyed the local beers, and the bar staff were very welcoming and friendly, as they were again today. When we enquired about having dinner, the bar staff went to check and then took us into a room immediately behind the bar. It was a lovely room where we had a corner table. There was a door leading to, I presumed, the conservatory dining area and the gardens beyond. The menu was printed on an A4 sized paper back to back. There was actually a lot of choice. For a bistro, I feel the prices were a little on the high side, but reasonably priced as a normal restaurant. Our meal was fresh and well cooked, and the service was prompt and pleasant and friendly. Overall a nice enough place to dine out in.

Its a rare find out of its bottle. It has a very nice caramel flavour and is a quite strong 6pc. When I fancied something weaker there was the always excellent Proper Job, so even though I liked the place so much I came back on 3 consecutive nights I still didn't get to any of the other beers (Bass, Tribute and Trelawny).

Like many community pubs it doesn't look like much from outside, but the place is fairly elaborate and its rough, dark wood décor exudes the atmosphere of real local history. The range of hand-pumped real ales is far above average for St. Ives, and unlike many other establishments in the town it is not affiliated with or owned by St. Austell Brewery. As a result the beer selection offers real variety. They offer live music events on a regular basis, and it is one of those places where locals and tourists mix. Recommended.

The location helps, on a surprisingly quiet narrow side street parallel to the main shopping hill. Beer is from Bays, Skinners or Otter, which is the kind of line up Man City wish they had! Went for the Otter and had a very good pint. There is a large selection of wines too, so something for everyone I think. My favourite pub in Penzance so far (I have lots more to visit I know!).

It is not a complicated drink so don't understand why they would say that unless they don't want you watching when they put it together. It has TWO ingredients?! Secondly when it came I was confused because I only got about half a glass of sparkling wine - could have had Chambord added or could have been rose sparkling wine. Who knows. We paid £9 for half a glass of wine which, as I said above, was a rip-off and certainly NOT worth £9. I won't be going back. Ever - you are paying over the odds for the view. I can have the view anytime I want and I don't need to ever pay £9 for half a glass of wine.

The service is exceptional, the selection of drinks is pretty good, and the food in the restaurant is marvelous. From here it's a lovely short walk down to the beach, and not far from the lovely town, Falmouth.
