Inside, its a small smart bar that is simply and tastefully designed. Paintings (which are available for sale) hang around the walls giving it a slightly arty feel. Outside there is a cute cobbled stoned courtyard and wooden benches to enjoy the beer. Ah Yes the beer. They had 7-8 draught beers on tap the night I visited, including a brew from Holland I had not heard of, Brooklyn beer from the US and others I forget the names of. But I can confirm they were all very good and chosen with care to provide a nice balance from ales through to Pils style lagers. The service was friendly and the clientelle were a nice mix of friendly chatters. Its the sort of place where you could find yourself settling in for a few more hours than you intended. Come to think of it, maybe its not like Hoxton at all. Falmouth could not be accused of going overboard with a younger, designer and arty bars but with Hand it gets one which goes in that direction and does it in a friendly, comfortable and quality-beer way.

It is pretty much a prototypical old style community boozer for the local folk to while away a lazy afternoon. The beer range is rather limited but always includes a guest ale on hand-pumps. As could be expected, the décor is nothing much to write home about, but the staff are nice and if you want to get into touch with the home folk, this is the place. It is frequented mostly by middle-aged to elderly customers, who can get a bit lively as the afternoon progresses. Mostly free of tourists (except myself).

Unfortunately, this is not actually what we were expecting as this was a restaurant serving anything but traditional pub food. We were pretty disappointed but decided to stay anyway as we'd hiked up to the top of the hill and it was getting late. The chicken schnitzel and greens in marmite butter were delicious. However the charred fish was extremely bony and not very nice. The freshly made ice cream was ridiculously good as was the service, views, and cozy ambiance.
