The Smugglers Den Inn is a 16th century thatched inn with family, beer garden, childrens play area and ample parking. The beer garden is where we like to crash and relax. While the kids play on the apparatus we chill with a ool drink in the sun and order from the menu full of lovely food and they always have plenty of specials on the board all made using the freshest local ingredients. It is situated in a little village called Trebellan, near Cubert, less than than 15 minutes from Newquay. You approach down a steep, high sided road which is typically Cornish and the pub is right before you and very welcoming. They have regular live entertainment and also have an annual Real Ale and Pie Festival which is is it's 9th year. It's definitely worth pulling off the beaten track and seeking it out for a refreshing treat.

They serve a handful of good Cornish ales and have a few tables outside, where you take in the sun weather permitting. The do food but I had already eaten. In short, this was the kind of pub I was hoping to find in Cornwall.

The range of hand-pumped real ales is far above average for St. Ives, and unlike many other establishments in the town it is not affiliated with or owned by St. Austell Brewery. As a result the beer selection offers real variety. They offer live music events on a regular basis, and it is one of those places where locals and tourists mix. Recommended.

She tried to salvage it with a knife and fork but gave up halfway through. I wish I had done the same. We voiced our concerns to a young waiter who at least pretended to care and said he'd speak to the manager. Spoiler: no manager ever showed. The place wasn't even busy, so this wasn't incompetence -- it was straight-up cowardice. For the prices they dare to charge, you'd expect actual food and some shred of accountability. Instead, The Watermill serves reheated slop and hides when things go wrong. This wasn't just a bad meal. It was a shameless cash grab wrapped in the illusion of a restaurant. There was no need to worry as we found this fantastic pub/restaurant on our first afternoon and sitting in the pub garden with my first pub pint for four months. We were so impressed with their techniques and set-up to avoid personal contact we booked a table for a meal that evening. The evening was no different with plenty of space between tables. The menu was a limited menu. Limited but with plenty of choice for most tastes. Service in the restaurant and bar was fantastic, friendly, professional and swift. We loved it so much that, the next day we booked for the evening. Interesting watermill outside with the inner workings displayed in the bar area. A pub and restaurant that is well worth a visit.

After being seated and getting our drinks, took 35 minutes to have our order taken (had to ask not once but twice). The servers were incredibly nice and friendly but such a wait is not acceptable, especially at 2:30 pm when we are quite hungry. I was still hungry after that so I ordered their Easter special ice cream dessert. The only pleasant thing about the whole meal was the cute little chick that came on top of the ice cream. I adore ice cream, but it was really mediocre and came with no toppings except canned whipped cream... just plain chocolate ice cream, whipped cream, and a wafer.
