A real-life, down-to-earth Cornish pub, with great drinks, live music (sometimes), and comfortable atmosphere. There's a pool table and a nice little garden in the back, for when the weather's nice. My Greek Salad was very good, with lots of olives and feta (though served with salad leaves, so not classically Greek). The red wine vinaigrette was a lovely touch. My partner had the Hunter Chicken, with cheese and bacon. This was more classic pub grub, so perfectly decent but not outstanding. They have a full bar, including a good choice of real ales. The Crown Inn is a very special place on so many levels. It is the 2nd oldest pub in Cornwall…read more(1100's!). It has charm and character for days, from the cozy fireplace in the bar, to the low beamed ceilings, to the inviting outdoor courtyard filled with flowers, and tables with umbrellas. The rooms are extremely well appointed and no detail has been spared. The beds are extremely comfortable and the pillows and linens are top quality with William Morris fabric. The pub fare is great and breakfast in the morning was plentiful and delicious! To top it off, the owners Tim and Jos are so warm, welcoming and accommodating that you will leave feeling like family. The Crown Inn's location in Lanlivery is a great base for touring many favorite spots in Cornwall including The Eden Project, The Lost Gardens of Heligan and many of the charming fishing villages nearby including Polperro!

We holiday at nearby Holywell Bay evry year (see review) and have visited this inn on many…read moreoccasions. We stumbled on it years ago and loved it. The Smugglers Den Inn is a 16th century thatched inn with family, beer garden, childrens play area and ample parking. The beer garden is where we like to crash and relax. While the kids play on the apparatus we chill with a ool drink in the sun and order from the menu full of lovely food and they always have plenty of specials on the board all made using the freshest local ingredients. It is situated in a little village called Trebellan, near Cubert, less than than 15 minutes from Newquay. You approach down a steep, high sided road which is typically Cornish and the pub is right before you and very welcoming. They have regular live entertainment and also have an annual Real Ale and Pie Festival which is is it's 9th year. It's definitely worth pulling off the beaten track and seeking it out for a refreshing treat.

So, back in the days when I used Twitter, one of the pages I followed, a page about British things…read morethat made Britain Britain, they posted a picture of this pub, and I thought that this was the pub with the coolest name ever, so I actually made a trek to visit it and have a beer. It is a bit of a hike from the station, but it was worth it, especially as it is a really old pub (though the ceilings are low, so watch out if you are tall like me). Yeah, this pub is very British, and pretty awesome, but I came here because of the name (and there is a story behind it as well).

The legend goes that a very long time ago…read morethe owner went out to get a bucket of water from the well (yeahTHAT long ago) and instead got a bucket of blood due to there being a dead body at the bottom. It did change names to the appallingly bland 'New Inn' at one point, but has the old name back now. They also believe the pub is haunted. The pub itself is a very nice dark woody old style looking pub with quite a low roof (I has to duck slightly). They serve a handful of good Cornish ales and have a few tables outside, where you take in the sun weather permitting. The do food but I had already eaten. In short, this was the kind of pub I was hoping to find in Cornwall.
