My experience with Dr. Keaney and the staff at Skin DC has been great so far. Appointments are on time and quick. He explains treatments and why/how they will work and answers any questions I may have in a way that I can understand. I also like the delivery pharmacy that was recommended to me. The front desk staff were courteous and helpful. However, I waited for 20 minutes until I was seen. I was escorted to a small cubicle where someone asked me more questions. And then I waited some more. I waited for 40 minutes. Dr. Naga then whisked in, asked 4 questions, administered some cryo and then whisked out. She was there for no more than 15 minutes. I then went out and waited to make an appointment and wait 15 more minutes to do so. Total amount of time spent - 1 hour a 10 minutes for a 15 minute visit. Went in for my first ever skin check, since I have some family with a history of skin cancer I figured I'd be proactive, and was not even see for more then two minutes by Dr Naga. I had other skin concerns I had wanted to talk about but before I could even speek she walked out of the room and said have a nice day. I was extremely disappointed with my visit and felt like it was a waste of time and that I was not important. Parking was also difficult to find in the very full garage and cost $8. I would not reccomend seeing this doctor to anyone, but the rest of the staff (front desk and medical assistant) were very nice. read more

I was not going to write anything, but over-production of their image after my experience is a bit ridicules. I payed for a visit with Dr. Lina Naga for a growth in my skin that was oozing out and affecting and hurting other areas. First, I had to go over many many agreements and consent forms which is never a good sign. Then, the nurse came in and asked me a couple of questions and took my picture for the file (which I was not comfortable with). When the doctor came in I explained I have had the problem for over three weeks now and had a previous dermatologist preform minor surgery on it many years ago. Instead of laying me back and examine the area she just took a sample and proscribed antibiotics. Seeing how swollen and in the condition I explained should have been enough for her to examine it further. Needless to say the antibiotics did not work and I went another two weeks with my whole leg hurting and the lump unaware of the medicine. Eventually, I saw another doctor who with one look said needed to be extracted. What bothered me was not the 5 min visit I payed $150 for, but their way of handling a mistake. I mentioned my experience to one of the workers and the next day I received a phone call that seemed more scared of a potential law suit than actual concern for my well being. The receptionist kept excusing and explaining the process which I understood, but that doesn't mean it was the right diagnosis. Went to bed with a cyst on my chin the circumference of a dime and woke up with a cyst as large as a nickel. Was able to get a same day appointment for a cortisone shot with Dr. Keaney. Cyst shrank by half by the next day and then smaller into nothing by the end of the week. Receptionist was great and the assistant was great too. Keep up the good work! read more

I was looking for a new Dermatologist for a general dermatology consult and I had such a great experience at SkinDC! The office is beautiful and well decorated--it practically feels like you're at a spa. The polite staff greeted me with a big smile and helped me to fill out all of the proper forms and get checked in. From there, they offered me a beverage and it was only a matter of moments before the assistant came to bring me to my room. The assistant was very friendly and asked me about my skin concerns, history, and my goals for the visit. Dr. Keaney then came in and talked to me about some of my concerns, offered some recommendations, and together we established a plan to improve my skin overall. He was very professional and knowledgeable yet also took the time to explain everything in layman's terms, which I really appreciate! When the consultation was over, the assistant took me back to the lobby to check out where the staff member was able to help me pick out some of the products that Dr. Keaney recommended. I've been using these products for a week now and I can already see a huge difference in my skin! DO NOT GOT HERE! If you are looking to be treated like a human being and seen for more than just money this is not the place. They ask you to fill out consent forms (including one if they can photograph you for medical purposes etc.) then they completely disregard if you decline or accept it and do it anyways! I guess HIPAA means nothing to them? I ws seen by Dr. Walterhoefer and I guess "seen" really is the right term. She was in such a rush barely spoke to me I think my time with her was a whooping 7 minutes. Most of my time was being talked to by a medical assistant who took pictures of me even though I clearly declined that in the paperwork! Embarrassingly enough I was there for removal of warts on my foot and the doctor just sprayed a few of them and missed 2 to 3 of the warts. I am NOT SURPRISED as she spent 7 minutes total with me practically and was in such a rush. I bet that if I was there for some BOTOX or $omething they would be a little different $$$ if you know what I mean. I was given an automated e-mail about how my visit was. I answered candidly that I was very disappointed at the level of service I was given especially after paying $123 or so out of pocket for mere wart removal and the doctor STILL DID A TERRIBLE JOB! She sprayed the warts like if she was dusting off a keyboard! Took no time to make sure the liquid nitrogen even worked! I was told by the automated e-mail that I would be contacted "Because they care ever so much about patient satisfaction". LIES! I had to call and call again about this and they said oh yeah "Amber" is busy. Or that "its just an automated e-mail"...so are you saying what I practically already knew? That you DON'T care at all about how your patients feel? NOT surprising...ALSO my insurance paid for the claim and I spoke to the insurance company and the office overcharged me. I called and they said that they will take a look at it when they get the paperwork from the insurance company...lets see how wonderful that ends up... DO NOT RECOMMEND GOING HERE. Went for my first visit last week after learning my other dermatologist relocated and decided to try this place in my neighborhood for my annual mole check and to see if they can help me ward off hereditary hair loss. After seeing mixed reviews I'm glad I decided to try them out. They are a more advanced shop than the other dermatologist offices (which are straight-up doctors' offices) I've been to in the area. Upon check-in they point customers toward tablets to log health history and sign off on a variety of terms, including standard ones like HIPAA. In one case (I didn't agree with the use of my photos for teaching where I may be recognized) they presented an alternative option that wasn't initially visible to the customer (you had to ask for it; it seems like they want people to agree to this but don't want to lose customers who read it closely and are uncomfortable). The ambiance is very modern, which contributes to the high-tech feel. George, who was the PA for Lena Naga, my chosen Doctor, got me set up with a standard gown, briefed me on what the plan was for my visit, and took "before" pictures of my hair so that they can later measure progress. (The previous two doctors' offices I went to didn't have something established for that.) He did a great job at ensuring Dr. Naga's visit with me was efficient. When Dr. Naga came in she asked me to tell her the top two things I wanted addressed in this visit. I had arrived 10 minutes later than planned given the introductory paperwork I had to do so that may have been why, but that was fine with me (especially as I only had two main issues anyway). She did my mole check, made the same kind of comments my previous doctors made on my condition (validating), and (to my recollection now that it's been a week) had George give me the full rundown on solutions to ward off hereditary hair thinning. (I will also note that George appeared to do a good job at minding his own business well behind me while Dr. Naga was doing my full body mole check, which I appreciated.) George was very thorough on providing options to address hair thinning in the exam room and at checkout as needed when I was reviewing product options. I felt like I was given enough information to make the best decision for myself (like what is known about the effectiveness of each of the approaches and prices so I could compare strategies) on addressing the hair thinning and I did not feel that they pushed products, though they did show products that you can buy upon checkout. I took a menu with one option and took pictures of other options and did my own research at home too, finding that the initial solution I chose was on Amazon for only a buck or so less than if I bought it at checkout from their office. George also informed me that they have a McLean-based online pharmacy they prefer putting subscriptions through b/c it's cheaper for customers, which I found to be the case as a $20 shampoo I've previously gotten from CVS was just under $10 - and was delivered the next morning, exceeding expectations. read more

The visit was amusing for all the wrong reasons. Almost a year ago to the day, my hair was as long and full as Dr Naga's. I have always been blessed with beautiful hair. Recently. I've had to cut it down almost to a Halle Berry. For some reason it is falling out and through the process of elimination, the dermatologist is the next step. I've always taken good care of my hair so this has never happened before. It's very depressing to see the sudden hair loss. That said, this visit was almost as depressing as the hair loss itself. Again it was amusing for all the wrong reasons because this particular practitioner jumped to the usual suspects for black hair loss that definitely did not fit the bill for me. She actually asked me if I wore my hair in braids at some point in my childhood decades ago or if it was from long-term perm usage. I almost lol because I felt like I was in a Wayans' Living Color skit. Instead, I just looked at her and told her that I've never worn braids AT ANY POINT or a hair weave. It's even been years since I've used relaxers on a regular basis. Had she bothered to actually look at any of my recent pictures, she would have seen that 10 months ago I had a full hairline as well as a full head of long, healthy hair. The PA was pretty thorough and seemed interested in the history of my condition. However, Dr Naga clearly was not. She rattled off a list of 3-4 common causes that one can readily Google. In fact I had Googled them before coming into the appointment - which is why I came in for an expert medical assessment vs. Dr Google. I could have saved my insurer money and myself time had I known that Dr. Naga was not going to actually review the history of my recent hair loss including pictures and literally hair that I brought in over the past week that had come out in clumps(both of which I shared with the PA). The latter makes a difference because it shows that the loss is not breakage versus fall out from the root. A good dermatologist would have cared about those kind of details; Dr. Naga did not. In fact the PA suggested I have that detailed discussion with Dr. Naga and she suggested that I show her the same information that I had shared with the PA. But when Dr. Naga presented in the room, it was very clear that she was not interested in the history of my hair loss so I didn't force those details on her. She did offer suggestions for treatment and the possibility of a scalp biopsy. But if you don't take the time understand the history of the condition before you jump to treatment, you could be placing a patient through unnecessary procedures. At the end of the day, I will likely have to return to the Northeast to find a dermatologist highly-skilled in diagnosing African American scalp and hair loss issues. This clearly is NOT the practice for those the issues. I'm sure she does well with some clientele but I certainly would not recommend an African-American client to her. read more

The entire experience with SkinDC was seamless, from scheduling through checking out. The office is beautiful and comfortable, the office staff and nurses are considerate and helpful, and most importantly, Dr. Naga is hands down the best dermatologist I have visited. It is clear that she has ample experience and knowledge of both medical related and cosmetic dermatology. I appreciated her honesty, clear answers and recommendations. She took time to discuss the science/evidence behind why certain treatments would work better for my skin. At the same time she was by no means pushy or overzealous with recommending products and treatments. This practice is very new, so while this time I was able to schedule an appointment on short notice, I fear that as word gets out, they will become booked months in advance. I was pretty underwhelmed with my experience at SkinDC. The receptionist and the PA were very friendly and everything went great up to the moment Dr. Naga came in to see me--she seemed to be in a hurry. I was there for a check-up and had some questions about hair loss. Since it was a full body check-up, I was wearing the gown (which makes it obvious why I was there). However, after looking at my hair for 30 seconds, Dr. Naga was ready to walk out. I had to remind her that I also needed a check-up. I thought she was busy with other patients, however, as I'm walking out of the building I could see her sitting in her office by herself, and she didn't appear to be busy. Maybe she was having a bad day, but I wish I didn't feel that rushed for no reason. read more

My visit to Dr Naga was for a recent flare up of acne due to discontinuing the pill. Among waking in I got a "snobby like vibe" from the front desk, who was not very welcoming. After waiting a good 25 minutes, I was apologized to by Dr Naga. When I told her I didn't want to take any medication, hence stopping the pill, she was in my opinion snappy. It was like she was running behind, clearly rushing to get me "processed" and possibly having a bad day! She just came across abrasive. She literally said to me, "well why don't you tell me what you're willing and not willing to take so we can narrow this down". The final straw was when I called the pharmacy she had "called" my prescriptions into only to find out they weren't there. It took them from Tuesday at 3:00pm to Thursday morning to call it in! All of this is extremely unacceptable in my book. I was really hoping to like Dr Naga and her office but unfortunately I wouldn't be back! read more
