I found him when I lived in Nashville (almost 10 years ago), then looked him up after I moved to DC. Scheduling an appointment at his new office was a smooth process and I was able to be seen on the same day. The office staff are outgoing, professional, and communicative. The scheduling and check-in process was easy and I had no issues with insurance/payment process. Nice staff and nice office space. They sold some skin products in the lobby, and I ended up buying one of the Elta MD sunscreens -- I haven't been able to find any other in-person way to buy it! I made this appointment to get help figuring out the root cause of my acne. I've been told for years that it's "hormonal acne". So I decided I wanted to figure out why I have hormonal acne. I wonder what hormones are out of wack? How I can support my inner workings, resulting in less hormonal acne? Everything online says, go to a dermatologist to figure it out. I had taken pictures of all my skincare products and brought them in, thinking the doctor would ask me what products I use, and perhaps help me decide which might not be helping. She didn't bring up my current skincare regime. I asked if I could get some tests done, such as food sensitivity / allergy tests, or blood work to check my hormones. They don't do that for hormonal acne, apparently. The only solution that was offered, was a pill to take twice a day every day as long as I want clear skin (forever?) and several medicated creams, including ones that are considered toxic, cause birth defects, and one which is currently being sued for its connection to causing cancer. Everyone was very nice, so I would definitely consider coming back for something like mole checks. But I worry that they are mostly trying to sell products and make money off patients. There was no trust building or a sense of care towards a topic that I consider pretty personal. Edit: adding a star because the doctor called me directly (several times) and left a long voicemail. The hubs and I are extremely surprised at the higher reviews of Dr. Coyne and this practice. The appointment with Dr. Coyne was extremely rushed and very upsetting; with a new patient, you'd think that there would be time to discuss your history, skin concerns, etc., but there was no building of that patient-doctor relationship; there was 'no time' to ask any questions and to raise any concerns, absolutely no meaningful information given, and she provided just a a quick diagnosis without running any tests or conducting a deeper analysis. As suspected, the 'treatment plan' Dr. Coyne provided didn't even address or alleviate the issue - such a total waste of time and money. We could tell that this office only sees their 'patients' as a number, a part of an assembly line, with some type of an internal competition to see how many they can go through in a day. What a joke. Fortunately, we were able to find another dermatologist that provided a correct diagnosis while going above and beyond. You know, a doctor that actually knew what they were doing while showing that they care. P.S. The fact that the office was 'unable to verify' us as a patient shows how much of a mess this place is - again, if you're zipping through patients in that fashion, how really organized and detail-oriented can you be? I've been here a few times now and it's honestly a great experience. I was worried with how sleek the interior design was that it was going to be very commercial and not friendly or warm but it was such a good experience. Dr. Livingood was very thorough and also knowledgeable and gave many options for treatments without pushing any of them. He gave his opinion after he asked me what he thought I was interested in doing and I appreciated that he wasn't pushing or upselling. The front desk staff were extremely friendly. Apple pay wouldn't work to pay my copay. Instead of leaving me embarrassed they brought over a different terminal and it accepted my card on Apple pay. I have had full body checks before where my scalp and other areas were not checked. PA Saman Shahid performed a thorough examination for skin cancer. At check out I had a patient nurse who allowed me to try tinted moisturizers until I found the one I liked. I would recommend this office. read more

Amazing staff, professional, attentive and extremely punctual. Fun fact: I lived with what I thought was eczema for 13+ years with little to no RX help. I finally had enough and scheduled an appointment with Arlington derm, almost immediately the dr recognized the rashes were not eczema and did a biopsy.... Turns out it was DH which is common for people with celiac or gluten allergies. The dr requested a blood panel and celiac test, I tested positive which explains all the rashes, indigestion, fatigue, chronic joint pain .... I'd go to say that Arlington derm really changed around my life... from what I thought would be an app to just get steroid cream for my eczema to no longer living with the debilitating side effects from a chronic autoimmune disease read more

They get two stars for having a good dermatologist. Their billing system is terrible. They were billing me from services from last February and they send you bills online and snail mail so you cannot figure out what you have paid and what you have not paid. Then rather than help you figure it out they threaten to send you to collections. Find another dermatologist that hast their billing system worked out. I will never go back. read more

Had a great experience on my first visit. The doctor was thorough in his diagnosis of my two children and had great bedside manner when dealing with my teen daughter. He used appropriate terms to describe our brown skin without getting into race or statistics. He focused on our needs and worked collaboratively with me to determine the best oath forward. Unfortunately, I had a very poor experience with the office staff today. I am a teacher and had a situation at school which made it so I could not make my appointment. I called at 8am to explain (my apt was at the end of the day). They refused to work with me and immediately charged $50 to my bank. A $50 late fee is unreasonable for someone trying to work with the office in good faith - this was not even close to a no-show situation. There are too many good doctors in this area to allow doctors to treat me as a free money machine. read more

Unfortunately I am giving a poor review of this place after almost 10 visits earlier this year. I gave them a chance. My biggest complaint is that the doctor did not seem confident enough to lead me through a successful treatment of a simple skin condition. On all of my visits, he ended the consultation by listing 5 or 6 treatments that he could perform. Some of them were complicated. Then he would look at me in silence and wait for me to choose. Weird! I ended up choosing to do 2 treatments at the same time, which combined should have been over 95% successful. They didn't work. I paid over $1,000 out of pocket and the skin condition actually got worse. After getting second opinion I learned that the wait between treatments from Arlington Dermatology was way too long. This was exacerbated by the doctor being unavailable sometimes when I should have been seen. After about 6 treatments which produced no success, the doctor sent me on my way with a product that I apply myself at home every day. It works but could have been used much earlier. I didn't like how the front desk requires you to fill out and check your paperwork status on every visit. Overkill. Also, there was a visit when I got lost in the queue and patients after me were seeing my doctor before me until I complained. So weird! The billing codes are inconsistent as well, which has resulted in delayed acceptance by my insurance company. read more

I cannot say enough good things about Arlington Dermatology and the two physicians running this practice. My family and I have seen both Dr Coyne and Dr Livingood for various dermatological needs and found them both o be extremely knowledgeable, professional and effective in diagnosing and treating various needs. I have had them diagnose a case of shingles, treat alopecia areata on multiple occasions and get my annual skin checks at this practice. Unlike other dermatologists in the area I did not find either physician ever rushing in and out throwing prescriptions at me. In fact, I felt they took more than the average amount of time to consult me on my concerns and offer collaboration on treatments when more than one option was available.
