My boyfriend and I came here to look for a furry friend today. We met Strawberry during our first…read morewalk through and she did everything in her power to get our attention. I insisted that we take her out to play, and although she didn't care about our presence, we fell in love with her! We left with her same day (today) to take her home forever where she immediately turned into a cuddle bug. She follows us everywhere, cuddles, plays, and is very well trained. It is clear she doesn't need any additional training other than socialization. Not only did we notice a clean facility, but they took very good care of our girl! She came home and opened right out of her shell. She had been there for months but acted like she had been with us forever upon arrival home. This shelter has a lot of outdoor space and the faculty was nice, attentive, and clearly cared so much about eachanimal. We met so many sweet dogs and this is a great shelter to adopt from. Most of the dogs are pits, but they have a few that can pass in an apartment. If you own a home, a pit is the way to go! Strawberry is obviously part pit, but we would own 8 pits if we didn't live in an apartment. Adopt don't shop...and do it from here! Update: one year later and Belle (previously named Strawberry) is doing so well! She is the best. She was pretty much fully trained when we got her. We've only taught her to shake, stay until called, and worked on her walking skills on a leash.

Halfway through the 2nd kennel we found a pretty girl just waking up from her nap The place was total chaos with barking dogs. She just sat up and wagged her tail. We had her brought outside and we hung with her for about an hour No pressure from the staff at all. We finally decided that we had stumbled on probably the perfect pup. She's home with us now and I do believe she is very happy. She was surrendered by a homeless person who could not care for her anymore. So we will shower her with love and kisses for as long as she is with us.

I get that the owner must prefer animals-- but since animals aren't going to walk in on their own, human skills are also needed. Those are not skills this owner possesses. Her organizational skills are lacking also. When I spoke to her assistant to schedule the first time, I asked for a fax number to send the boys vaccinations, and after taking the time to do that, this woman had no idea how to access her faxes for some reason, and I had to bother my vet's office again. I took my two teacup Pomeranians here ONE time. One of my poms had a pretty, full coat when he went in, and when he came out, half of it was gone. I specifically asked that he not be trimmed too much. My husband thought we should give the groomer another chance. When I came for a second time, and asked her not to cut it short like last time, she argued with me, swearing she didn't cut it short. Now maybe she defines "short" as shaved to the skin or something, but his hair was so much shorter, that we had to put him in a harness one size smaller. Never had that with another groomer. Not only that, but however she cut his hair, it is not growing back. She basically wrecked his coat, and is trying to blame the dog, saying he has "coat funk" (which our vet says is made up groomer jargon). Rather than blaming the dog, all this woman needed to do was to listen to me when I told her not to cut too much of my dog's hair off. Instead, she had to be right, and had to have the last word. She refused to listen, was rude, and kept repeatedly using this term "coat funk." The final straw was when she said "I didn't give your dog coat funk." No lady, you gave him the crappiest hack job of a hair cut he's ever had, and wrecked his coat. You did that. Not the dog. And I will let everyone know that this is the last place to take a dog you care about. If your dog has any kind of double coat, I advise you to go elsewhere. If you have any special instructions you want implemented, go elsewhere. If you want to be listened to, go elsewhere. You and your dog deserve better.

I've been using the low-cost services offered here for over 10 years. I am grateful for the work…read morethat they do and appreciate the continued support of the community to keep them open. Unfortunately, over the years, the level of service has declined. I can't be sure, but I don't think they still house community cats or cats that are available for adoption. The basic exam that they do couldn't take longer than 30 seconds because all 3 of our cats were in and out in less than 5 minutes. They all received vaccines and had the brief exam done within that timeframe. The checking out process took much longer. Following COVID and the protocols that changed, I just don't feel like things ever got "back to normal." I understand that this is an animal care facility, but it was truly disgusting and especially rank the day that we went in there. I would hope that someone mops daily, but the floor looked like it had definitely not been cleaned in a week. The nature of the business is likely to explain the mess, but some efforts to air the place out a bit would be appreciated. The staff are all really friendly and the cost, though it has gone up steadily over the years, is still the most affordable that I've found. You simply cannot beat a good deal on the necessities.

We dropped her off and then got called shortly after to see if we could come back and be with Nova while they sedate her. They said they would rather have us there to calm her down than to put a muzzle on her which I really appreciated. She's normally anxious around new people and when we went to pick her up she seemed completely okay. I was very nervous as this was her first vet visit (with us at least) and I couldn't be happier. We're going to monitor Nova over the next couple weeks to make sure everything goes smoothly. Other than that, I definitely recommend coming here.

Whenever I'm stressed and need to relax, I always go to Nine Lives Cat Cafe. I'm a college student…read morewithout a car, so I can't frequently go off campus. But when I do, my first choice is here. The staff is always so friendly and welcoming. They'll answer any questions you have about the location or the cats themselves. Some cat cafes offer merchandise, but this location has way more than I've ever seen anywhere. Firstly, the food. Their menu is accessible online, so you can check ahead of time if you've got dietary restrictions. They have pastries, coffees, teas, bobas and more. I will say, in my experience, the pastries tend to run out very quickly. My go-to is the hot-chocolate, but I've also enjoyed the chai and English breakfast tea. Other than food, they offer a lot of cat-themed merchandise like clothes, magnets, jewelry, pins, and art. I purchased a pair of earrings in the past and they've held up well! I would absolutely recommend booking on the website before going. While you may get lucky for an open spot, don't expect one. The website is very clean and easy to navigate. The hours are clearly listed, along with explanations on which times to come depending on what you're looking for. In the morning and early afternoon, all ages are allowed and their cats are the most active. The afternoon is 13+, and nighttime is adults only. The cats are much calmer during these times. It also looks like they're opening up a "study night" for students! Finally, there's the main attraction, the cats. The main room is filled with cats-some playful, some calm, perfect for everyone. There are plenty of toys and places to sit, along with structures just for the cats in case they need to hide away. In addition, they have a kitten room, which is something I've never seen before in a cat cafe. It's a room with just kittens, as well as a big television that plays bird videos for them. You can also look into adopting cats after attending. There are lots of great cats looking for homes-there's a big binder you can look through with information on lifestyle, temperament, etc. I would absolutely recommend Nine Lives Cat Cafe to any cat lovers in Indianapolis.

I was searching for the perfect dog and I came across Lucky Star Cavalier Rescue. They rescue…read moreCavalier King Charles puppies and dogs along with helping other breeds out of a horrible life after being born into puppy mills. I went on the site and saw pictures of the Cavaliers that were up for adoption. They were really so cute that I google this breed and fell in love with them. So I applied to foster a dog and about a week later they called and told me that they had just found out about this puppy mill in MO that had been shut down and they were driving there to pick up 20 dogs and puppies. So they needed fosters right away. I drove to Indiana and picked up the dog (puppy) that I was fostering. Her name was Fergie and she was 6 months old and in perfect health. Well, of course I knew I was going to fail at being a foster because the second I met Fergie...I knew she was mine. So about a week after I was fostering her I finally broke the news to Lucky Star that I was going to adopt Fergie. The whole process was very easy and what a great feeling to know she was rescued away from a bad life. They pay all the vet bills for being fixed, a complete check up, all their shots and teeth checked. They do ask for a donation when you adopt. But they do have alot of vet bills as some of the dogs that come out of puppy mills aren't always healthy because they were so abused. A small cost for saving the life of a beautiful, snuggable, kissable puppy. I want to rescue a bunch more, but I am at the limit of two dogs right now.
