This is a store that sells Eastern European foods. They have shelf-stable items, baked goods, a deli, and on days that their kitchen is open they serve hot prepared meals. Since we are in the midst of the Covid-19 Pandemic, their kitchen is only open Wednesday-Sunday, but apparently during regular times, their kitchen is open every day.
I was interested in trying some burek, or other savory treats, but their kitchen wasn't open when I went on a Monday, so I just picked up a slice of cake. I initially ordered the "Ferrero Cake", but the lady working there recommended the "Russian Cake." I love all cake, so I took her recommendation. It was $4.49 a slice. The cake was really light and the cream was fluffy and airy. I loved it. I don't like thick and dense cake. The cake was topped with a small piece of strawberry, a single blueberry and a single blackberry and a small piece of chocolate shaped like a leaf. I look forward to trying their other desserts.
The lady serving me was the owner. She said she and her husband bought the business and moved the location of the store (it used to be further north on Merivale in the Carlington area). She was friendly and encouraged me to come back when their kitchen is open.
The store is brightly lit and looks very clean. I will be back.
The store is in a strip mall. Lots of free parking. read more
