I went to Skate the Station on Jan 16th, which was the last weekend before it ended and it was a great time. I went by myself and it was a pretty straightforward process. My ticket which included skating and rentals cost about $21 and I was there from 7- 8:30pm. It was a very peaceful and fun experience. There were experienced skaters and inexperienced skaters, which the staff were on the ice accounting for. There were about 30 minutes where it got busy, but otherwise, there was plenty of space to skate the rink without bumping into people. I will most likely come back when they do this again next year and bring people! read more

After years of not ice skating, I finally made it to Skate the Station! I purchased our tickets online for a specific time slot which was easy to do and affordable. It was about $17 with tax which included the skate rental. Upon arrival to Atlantic Station, I parked underground which is paid parking. So definitely include the price of parking into your budget for this outing. Once I parked, I had to find the skating rink which wasn't that hard as it's in the center of the shopping area near the restaurants. When I arrived to the skating rink, I went through the line to get checked in and pick up skates. And mind you we went on a weekday which was perfect as it wasn't that crowded. But I would assume the weekends and holidays would be pretty crowded. Now for the skates! They were not the best. As I wear a half size and they don't have half sizes, that made it difficult. I ended up with a half size bigger which was ok for my feet. But the straps to fasten my skates killed my ankle bones. No matter how tight or loose they were, they were in pain for days after skating. If you have your own skates, I highly recommend taking them! Other than that, the staff was friendly and helpful! While In Atlanta for the weekend I did some googles and found this ice skating rink walking distance from my hotel. It was the first weekend it opened for the season and I was excited to go. I went around noon on A Saturday and there weren't many ppl there which was perfect. When I arrived I wasn't sure where to get my skates from but the people at the snack stand instructed me to turn the corner and I would see it. I went into the spot and got my skates and paid my $16. And I was given a wristband which shows how long I was able to skate for which was an hour and 15 mins This particular day the weather was just perfect, it wasn't windy or freezing. I had a hoodie on and it felt just right. Hadn't skated since last year and I knew I was gonna kill it out there. *5 mins later* fell flat on my face and of course everybody was looking . We had so much fun. The only drawback was we didn't realize you need reservations- hello, population density - a surprise for us out of town visitors. We went back the next day with reservations and everyone had a good time. It was colder the second day so the ice was better to skate on. Skate Atlantic Station is Atlantic Station's new outdoor ice skating rink. It officially opens today, November 15, 2013, and will run until February 2014. At 10,000 square feet, it's the largest outdoor ice skating rink in Atlanta and one of the largest in the Southeast. I've been to several Atlanta area ice skating rinks including seasonal rinks in-town such as the rinks at Piedmont Park and Centennial Olympic Park and permanent rinks outside the perimeter like the Duluth Ice Forum and the Marietta Ice Center. For casual ice skating, Skate Atlantic Station may be the best one of them all for multiple reasons, but mainly because it's new. Interestingly, the ice skating rink has been installed on top of District Ave. in between 18th St. and 17th 1/2 St. It's unique in that it has a track style setup. Skaters go in a counter-clockwise direction like a running track, circling around what is normally District Avenue's median. The median features three nicely decorated and colorfully lit Christmas trees and other trees decorated with Christmas lights. For holiday ambiance and decor, Atlantic Station's ice rink wins hands down. There's Christmas music, hot chocolate, heat lamps, and cookies. You can peek at the city's skyline as you make your way around the south end of the rink. The entire Atlantic Station development is already decked out for the holidays. The community's Christmas tree lighting is November 23rd. Admission including skate rental is $13 per person, $10 for children, seniors, students, and military with ID. These prices are in line with other holiday rinks in town. For example, Centennial Olympic Park costs $10 and Piedmont Park costs $15 (Sunday-Thursday) or $20 (Friday-Saturday). Skate Atlantic Station is open 7 days a week. Specific days' hours are posted on this Yelp listing. Atlantic Station's rental skates are new unlike other rinks' skates which can be smelly, worn out, and/or have dull blades. On the flip side, since the rental skates are new, they are stiff and still need to be broken in. I'd rather have stiff skates than stinky skates. In my experience, ice skate rentals have never been comfortable. I have to size up 1.5 sizes from my regular shoe size here. Small lockers are available if you want to securely store your shoes and valuables. The ice surface itself is in excellent condition. I'm no expert on how hard or soft the ice should be, but it's definitely the smoothest surface I've ever skated on. A lot of that has to do with the rink being brand new. It hasn't seen a whole lot of traffic yet. There's a full size Zamboni on-site which resurfaces the entire rink at least once per day. The rink is completely open-air. It's not covered like the parks' rinks are. Service is fantastic. The staff is friendly and welcoming. There are multiple staff members on the ice to make sure everyone is safe and having a good time. The entrance to Skate Atlantic Station is located in front of Banana Republic and Rosa Mexicano. Parking in the Atlantic Station parking garage is free for the first two hours. If you're looking for a fun activity to do in Atlanta this winter/holiday season, I recommend Skate Atlantic Station. I'm so glad I read the reviews and went skating. That had to be the best $13 I have ever spent! We chose to go between 4:30 pm and 7:30 pm which was perfect on a weekday. The crowds weren't too bad and the two hours of free validated parking in the deck gave us just enough time to go for a spin. Getting the skates was a seamless process and the wristband allows you to go in and out at your leisure. The only con was that there was no public restroom. I had to walk down to Dillards two blocks away to use its restroom so go before you arrive. The weather was absolutely beautiful. Although there were a couple of young guys were a bit too playful and skated too fast, there were many more families, couples and singles. As it got later, the Christmas lights were lit and music ranging from Christmas classics like Jingle Bell Rock to contemporary tracks like Katy Perry's Roar could be heard. This rink is cute in theory but missed the mark in execution. The skates are extremely uncomfortable. I traded in my first pair for the size up and those still pinched the side of my foot, so much so that I had a cut on my foot from the inside of the skate. The ice itself was anything but smooth. It was almost impossible to do more than a 1-2 walk due to the rough ice. When you are expecting the first pic and get there and it is the second pic, it's a bit frustrating. After talking with the manager of the rink and her arguing with me about the rink size. That this rink is probably a bit bigger. She asked Why does it matter where the rink is? It isn't about the rink or the ice. It's about the experience. I am from South Dakota and my kids play hockey they skate 4 days a week. They can skate at home anytime they want. We went there to experience what the website displayed it as and it wasn't that at all. We paid for "skip the the line" tickets. Don't waste your money. There was never a line more than about 10 people. Also the skates were horrible. They were not sharp. My daughters have been playing hockey for 6 years and they looked like they have never skated before. The rink management said they could not refund our money because we purchased the tickets online. Considering their website says they are following COVID precautions we were VERY disappointed. Social distancing was not happening at ALL. Lots of people didn't have masks on (mostly teenagers). There was no sanitizing going on. I at least thought they would have been wiping down the side rails where EVEREYONE is touching. We were sadly disappointed and left wasting the money we spent. This place is an absolute failure. They give you skates that are impossible to skate with. My friend and I went as soon as they opened (12pm). We put on our skates and excitedly (tried) to step on the ice. We are both experienced skaters but we could NOT skate at all. They were so dull and could barely even walk without almost falling. We took our skates back and asked for different ones (horrible service, by the way) ... but it was quite clear that they didn't have any sharpened ones. There was a guy behind us wanting new skates too. There was a good amount of people but none of them were actually skating ... just busy trying to stay standing. We ended up just leaving after 10-15 minutes. They do not provide refunds. Please do not go ... unless you have $13 to waste. read more

I *really* like skate Atlantic Station for a couple of reasons. After having hit up the other outdoor ice skating rinks around Atlanta (Piedmont Park, Centennial Park), I can honestly say the rink at Atlantic Station is by far the most spacious and scenic. Christmas music plays in the background as you skate around Christmas decor. The skates are a bit uncomfortable as I suspect they haven't been used very often. Lastly, there are student discounts! You save $3 and pay only $10 compared to general admission at $13. The lockers are situated right next to the rink so you can keep an eye on your valuables. My only complaint was that the skating area was a bit uneven with a couple of obvious bumps. Other than that, I'd still consider this my favorite Atlanta outdoor ice skating rink. read more

I'm glad they had lockers available, and on a weeknight it wasn't packed. But skates were the dullest and most uncomfortable I've ever rented. A couple obvious bumps on the ice (think of skating over speed bumps each lap). Pools of water. More than half the Christmas decorations were unlit. Coming from someone who used to be a pretty decent skater, I felt like a doe skidding around all over the place. The skin on my ankles was torn up from the skates after an hour. Ive been to other smaller skating rinks and this one was one of the worst 1. $13 for one person and all of the snacks are $3+, too pricey for me 2. the rink itself was small and unkept, usually every hour someone comes and cleans the rink from all the snow debri that has collected, this made it hard to skate and enjoy myself 3. Those ice skates were so uncomfortable that I could barely move. I've never had skate shoes like those I would save my money and go to another rink like the the one in peach tree thats much bigger and nicer. Wont be going here again to ice skate. read more

I took 10 girls there for a birthday party and we did not have a good experience at all We had to change skates toys because none of the skates were sharpened and the girls were slipping all over the place most people who don't are you skate would not know that and would put those skates on and try to slip and slide all over the place What a dangerous situation if you don't know what you're doing It took me 40 minutes to get them on the ice with skates that actually worked They are not sharpening the skates daily I would not recommend you take inexperienced skaters there It's too bad that it's like this because I found that generally they keep the outdoor ice pretty well taken care of read more

BUYER BEWARE. When selecting tickets online, you have to set up an account, but then anything you had put in your cart before goes to a default date/time, NOT the one you chose before registering for an account. Without knowing it I clicked away and realized immediately the purchase was incorrect date. 8 emails and phone attempts later, they would not exchange for the session I originally chose. That's right, was not asking for a refund, just a correction on the date/time we were coming. It was my holiday gift for family and I asked right away for assistance and they refused. These "scrooges" spoiled my holiday plans and I won't give them my business in the future unless resolved. Very shady - their operation for online orders is out of Boston, so they can hide behind the distance as a way to avoid doing what is right for their customers. read more

Not good....not good at all. We went this evening and this make shift business was a big miss. I don't think I have ever seen worse ice. There was a Zamboni there but it must have been broken. Our group of 9 was one of the first on the ice for the day. The ice was not prepped and there were holes and make shift repairs all over. Also, you don't expect rental skates to be great but their blades were beyond dull. If you truly want to ice skate, find a well maintained indoor rink. read more

THIS IS THE WORST ICE RINK I HAVE EVER BEEN TO. I'm a figure skater so I'm usually skating every week. The STAFF WAS NOT FRIENDLY. A staff person told me (in a rude way) that I couldn't sit on the black panels around the rink while she was standing on the panels and there was a group of 9 people sitting beside her on the panels. Another staff person told my sister that she couldn't take photos and when she asked why, they said she couldn't beacuse it was a professional camera (It was a Nikon D1300). The rink had a lot of liquid water (I've been skating for years and I know what I'm talking about). I also saw 4 teenagers running on the rink and they fell over a 4 year-old girl. If you want to ice skate in Atlanta during christmas go to the Cenntenial Olympic Park rink. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME HERE. read more

Not only is the ice melting, which is understandable given the warmer weather, but the skates aren't sharp enough to grip the ice to properly skate without the sensation of constantly wanting to slip and fall. A spectator perspective from someone who has never skated in his life: I passed by on my way to and from the Atlantic Station movie theatre and I think this place adds to the spirit of the Christmas season. The venue outdoors in Atlantic Station just can't be beat. But, the operator is starting to get slack about maintenance of ice. I was at Skate Atlantic Station for a special event with MomoCon, the rink was large, but during the day in the warm sun it was like skating in 1/2 inch of water, but as the sun started set and by 4:30pm it started to re-freeze again. Only complaint I had was that the ice was very rough. The staff was very friendly, the atmosphere was very nice, it was so nice, I ate my takeout dinner there. read more

Great for beginners, but the skate blades are FLAT instead of sharp and pointy. Also, the ice was so messed up it looked like scraped up ice and it was NOT smooth AT ALL. Nobody shaved the ice. We requested the crew to have it shaved and smoothed out, but no, they said: "the ice has to dry out first". Okay whatever! One end of the "rink" was flooded with water puddles from melting ice possibly due to equipment failure beneath the ice surface, resulting in melted ice. We were all slipping when we reached that spot. The wait in line was absolutely ridiculous. I don't know if everyone had a life story to tell at the ticket window, but come on, folks! Move along. Nobody cares about all the life stories. We are there to skate and nothing else. Also, our feet were killing us the few few rounds so we sat on the rink wall to quickly fix our skate problem. We couldn't move at all because the pain was excruciating. One of the crew guys came over and said we are not allowed to sit on the wall. Excuse me?! All of you guys are doing it! Don't do it and then tell us not to. Fix your skate problem and you won't have a problem. Fix your rough ice problem and nobody will complain. You obviously knew the ice was not smooth because other people are complaining about it on here, too. Stop ignoring that before everyone takes their business elsewhere. FYI, the rink in Sandy Springs has $12 fee which includes skates and unlimited skating. A SMOOTH floor there. So don't give us a bogus reason that we are getting what we paid for and that your rink is the best in town. You guys have so much potential. You brought your rink to midtown Atlanta, but you left your "quality" in elsewhere. Please fix this problem. I am expecting you guys to fix the problem by this weekend. Don't waste your money. A family invited us to go ice skating and we suggested going to Atlantic Station instead of the Cooler in Alpharetta. Huge mistake. The ice was uneven and had not once been smoothed out with a zamboni ALL DAY. Numerous people complained and kept inquiring as to when the zamboni would be out to clean up the ice. They kept saying soon, but we were later informed the guy that drives it was not there and I guess you must be skilled to drive it because none of the other workers were capable. When standing in the long line and watching numerous people fall left and right, I thought nothing of it other than it being the typical inexperienced ice skaters. Turns out everyone was struggling because of the ice. When I asked to speak to someone in charge, it turned out no body was because they kept passing me off to someone else until eventually a lady said she was the supervisor and there was nothing she could do. She offered a rain check but why would I want to go back? They apologized for the condition of the ice, but clearly they weren't to sorry as they kept collecting everybody's money and allowing them to skate in what I considered to be dangerous conditions. I felt terrible for changing this family's plans as the kids did not have a good time. Don't waste your time or money. Go to the Cooler or any other indoor ice rink as they keep them in much better conditions. read more

Went here on Valentine's Day at dusk. Brought my girlfriend and paid $20 for the both of us. It's not bad considering we could skate as long as we wanted, plus it wasn't too packed. My daughter who is a fairly good skater went skating yesterday evening with a friend. It was late in the evening and she said there were actual holes in the ice and that it had not been resurfaced. She was trying to be careful and caught a hole with her skate and twisted her knee terribly. No help and she crawled off the rink. Her knee is really swollen and she is on crutches (she had never injured her knee before with any of her sports). Really annoyed at the negligence of this rink. read more
