The food was good but you have to pay valet, the menu didn't include everything listed online and the staff seemed a little oblivious to customers waiting on need of service; let me emphasize, not rude, just unaware. The air fresher was so overwhelming that I actually got a little nauseous. While the Servian coffee flavor was on point, it was full of coffee grounds. It took a long time to get service; I was there over an hour and only ate for about 12 minutes tops. Lastly, I came because I saw burek on their online menu but in the restaurant, it wasn't listed. Skadarliya is the new hot Pizza place! Their pizzas are always delicious - perfectly baked with lots of flavor. The pizza rolls are super tasty and the pizza sandwich is something you don't find everywhere (and it's really good!). They also make a really good pastrmajlija, which is a nice bonus if you're looking to try something a little different. Everything here is made with care, and it shows. Since my friend and I had never had Serbian food, we tried this place before going to the arcade down the street. The vibe of the restaurant was a little confusing. The atmosphere seems like a rather formal restaurant, but there are also giant TVs showing soccer matches. A piano is also in the space for live music at night, apparently. Most of the other customers were men, except a family with a small child, at the time we were there. The menu is extensive, including a number of dishes "for two," one of which we selected (boemski mixed plate) which consisted of various grilled meats and sausages, mushrooms, french fries topped with feta cheese, and toasted bread with cheese spreads and a red pepper pesto-type sauce. (We did a lot of googling menu items as they weren't always explained/described). The meal was tasty and we definitely had leftovers. A lot of meat! I felt like i needed a salad later. We came here after doing some work at ours friends new house, a treat for all the work, very nice. We started with a plate filled with grilled calamari with lemon, balsamic vinegar and cocktail sauce. The calamari was made to perfection and our server was just amazing, he kept my tea filled, and paid great attention to our table. We decided to split a sandwich, for my wife and myself, good choice as the sandwich was bigger than normal. We ordered the Serbian sandwich, see pictures, that was half of the sandwich. It comes with different meats and homemade cheese, that was super good and filling too. Our friends ordered the mixed grill platter and it looked like an order from Bedrock and that big, see pictures. The platter had kabobs and sausages with cheeses from region near Serbia. I hate to write this review because Skadarliya used to have good food, but that was not our experience this weekend. Maybe their pizza or other menu items are good, but the standard classic Serbian menu items we ordered were not good. Specifically, my husband carried out three large portions of civapi (Serbian sausages), one large pljeskavica (extra large Serbian hamburger), a shopska salata (traditional Serbian salad with shredded feta cheese), and two types of palacinke (Serbian style pancakes). Other than the pancakes (the nutella was better than the nut one), we had to throw it all away in the garbage after tasting it. It was that bad. The civapi appeared to be made with meat that was not fresh. It was gummy and flavorless. The pljkeskavica must have been made with the same meat, and was bad for the same reasons. Three orders of civapi and the pljeskavica went straight to the garbage. The diced red onions that were provided to be served as a side to the civapi were slimy and not fresh, and we had to throw those away, too. Finally, they included tomatoes that were not fresh, but spoiled, in their shopska salata (Serbian salad). The tomatoes tasted rotten. Off to the garbage it went. That is totally unacceptable. We were so disappointed and will never eat there again. My husband paid just under $200 for all this food, just to have to throw it all away. Do better Skadarliya! Use fresh ingredients and throw out food that is not fresh!!! If you want good civapi, go to the Brook Haven grocery store in Darien, and buy their beef + lamb civapi in their meat department and sautee or grill them at home. Really nice interior building, like a club really. But the food is just okay. I had the cevaps and they were decent, but it's almost like eating at a grease pit in a beautiful fine dining experience. The cevap comes with underwhelming fries, okay cheese, and some cut up red onion. Feeling so classy with the red onions cut up! NOT. I bet when this place has performances/events it's fun though so in a rare 1st time I give an extra star for the wonderful "atmosphere" here at Skadarliya, best of all it's right near one of my fav arcades. read more

I came here with a small group of ladies for a bittersweet going away dinner for one of my friends. We visited during a week night a few weeks ago. We had requested seating outside but when we arrived, they had one inside prepped for us. That was a bummer because it wasn't communicated to us ahead of time and there's obvious reasons why people want to solely dine outside during this time. To start, I got a glass of Chardonnay and we ordered some apps which included: calamari, grilled feta, and the stuffed mushrooms. The grilled feta plate was so fresh and I liked the flavor. The stuffed mushrooms were also very flavorful but weren't hot when they were served so that was a bummer. For an entree, we loved the feta app so we got the greek salad and split the branzino fish. The fish was cooked well but I wasn't aware that it was going to be served completely bone-in. Regardless, it tasted fresh and was served hot with grilled veggies. The fish was on the pricer side at $26 and I'm not sure I would order it again. For dessert, we ordered the dessert crepes. These crepes were my favorite thing we ordered. They were cooked well, with a tiny crunch on the edges and the nutella hit the sweet spot. Overall, we had a nice time here. Something they could have done differently: communicate our table placement ahead of time and to ensure all their staff is wearing their masks properly (nose inside the mask.) This is my second time. First time- don't get the fettuccine Alfredo- it's prob the worst I've ever had. This place is not exactly known for their pasta lol. Today we had the skadarliya wrap, the cheese pie, and omelette with Serbian cheese and potatoes. Everything was really delicious. The place was very clean and lovely looking. The only thing I hated is that there is a designated smoking section, and we were in non smoking, but could still smell it strongly. This is bad because my kids were with me. If you can resist the temptation to fill up on hot dogs, popcorn, etc. at nearby Brookfield Zoo, reward yourself with a hearty meal at this upscale ethnic eatery. Our midday repast began with tasty Serbian-style bread accompanied by two different cheese spreads. Bowls of chicken noodle soup (included in the entrée price) arrived next. For our entrée, the Missus and I shared the "Mixed Plate for 2 People." The huge oval platter was heaped with enough roasted/grilled chicken, sausage, beef and pork to satisfy 4 hungry people. Everything was delish, though not as juicy or tender as you might expect. For $11 per person (at the time of this writing), this shared entrée is an excellent value. We bagged up nearly half of our food to enjoy at home. For less-adventurous diners, the kitchen also whips up good American food including burgers and club sandwiches. The restaurant is divided into four separate rooms. The entrance leads to a bar area with a piano in one corner. Off to the right is a private room and a small stage. On the weekends, it becomes part of the restaurant. On the left side is seating and beyond that is an outdoor seating area with its own entrance. Have been here numerous times and never disappointed! Respectfully, I would give this no stars if I could. I went with a group of friends, and we were sitting at our table for about 15 minutes before someone even came over with water. Our server came over with water eventually, and the first thing she said was "what do you want". I'm a server myself, and that was just too brash. My friends ordered margarita pizza, and i got cevaps. the pizzas came out quick, but there was practically no sauce on them. we were talking amongst ourselves about it, and i assume she over heard because she set down some pizza sauce on the table. We all tried it, and it was straight from a cold jar in the refrigerator. The cevaps didn't come out for almost an hour, when everyone around us (who sat after) got their meat dishes. After a morning walk in forest preserve "Fullersburg Forest Preserve", we decided to go to this Serbian restaurant in Brookfield IL. It is scheduled to open at 11am, but we arrived at 10:55am. I expected the door to still close, but it was actually open, already good impression. Inside the door is a little dark and there were several tv showing different sports and news programs. People were friendly and smiling, we got table near windows, very sunny outside and we could see colorful flower pots through windows. It was clean and beautiful place. Waitress lady was nice and knowledgeable when we asked for recommendation. We ordered: Apricot juice - 5 stars Cafe latte - 5 stars Grilled feta cheese w/ tomato, olive and banana pepper(appetizer) - 5 stars Serbian sandwich w/ beef prosciutto - 4.5 stars Shrimp pasta with tomato basil sauce - 3 stars As a whole experience - 4.5 stars Music was kind of melancholy European pop. I think it is categorized as cafe atmosphere pop? Pretty quiet so it does not interfere conversations. I liked it. Apricot juice got dense fresh squeezed feeling. Very refreshing, feels like a smoothie. Cafe latte got thick layer of milk foam, which felt somehow hard and crispy. Appetizer "grilled feta cheese" looked fluffy from outside but it is pretty hard, feel like cheese steak when you stab with fork. Flavor I never have tried before, very yummy. 2 types of olives add some bitterness and sourness, banana pepper was a little spicy, and big tomato slice balance everything together. I think it was the plate of the day. Shrimp pasta was thick pasta and thick tomato sauce. Shrimp was a little heavy for me, especially tail part was tough to bite through. (I usually eat shrimp tails) The waitress recommended meat dishes, but we wanted to eat shrimp at that time, we ordered this. I would suggest "listen to your waitress". Serbian sandwich got vegetable, cheese spread, and two kinds of smoked prosciutto. It came with fries. Sandwich is yummy and new flavor for me. I love it. Again texture was a little hard to bite. Fries are so soft inside, very well made. Nicely salted, perfect fries I thought. They served complimentary sour dough bread and 2 types of cheese spread. One is mild, the other is spicy. Also there are olive oil, raspberry vinegar(?), salt and pepper on the table. Surprisingly all of dishes match well together. I go to feta cheese to olives to bread with vinegar, and back to sandwich and already forgot how good the sandwich was. Only negative side is a lot of food feel "hard", so we have to chew extra harder than usual, but I think that is my preference. Not their fault at all. Very very close to 5 stars, definitely going back again. Next time I wanna try chicken wrap with mushroom sauce, and check out what desserts they can offer. read more

We arrived from the west in 2 cars, turning on the street before the restaurant. I parked on the street, my brother pulled into back of parking lot via the street and parked. It was about 7:15 pm on a Saturday. There was one long table of about 10 people and another table of 2 eating in restaurant. Rest of tables were empty. My husband and I went in while my brother parked. There were 2 people at the front. ME: Hi there's 3 of us. Them: No. ME: Huh? Them: ( grabbing a paper with circles on it and waving it) No ME: Ahh excuse me there's 3 of us. Them:They re all coming at 8 pm. ME: Ahh they who? Them: You can't eat here. ME: I what? Them: You can't eat here. ME: why? Them( pointing) : They are all coming at 8 pm. ME: (I see a couple reserved signs on the table by the front.) it's 7:15. We are eating. You can't fit us in for 30 min? At the bar? Them: no ME: well I guess we aren't eating here then. (Ever.) We turn around and leave. No " Sorry", no " come back another time, Saturdays are busy". Nothing. We meet my brother at the door outside . I say I guess we aren't welcome to him, let's go to Tony's down the street. A car drives by and the driver slows down slightly and shouts at us. We start walking toward our cars. The car slams on brakes and the driver says something again. I walk over and say what? The driver says " You can't park here . You need to go." I say " I ve noticed" The driver says " You need to leave., NOW." ME: "yup I've noticed. " Driver: "it's valet parking you know." Given I parked west of the resturant not pulling into the lot from Ogden , how exactly was I supposed to know they only have valet in their giant parking lot? Again no " sorry we only have valet", " come back another time". And we went to Tony's down the street, enjoyed our food served by a friendly waitress and didn't hear the word " no" once. read more

First very unprofesional welcome at the parking- they chase you to take your car for a "valet parking"- people on the parking are not allowing guests to park car on their own !Second servers are very slow, you have to wait good amount of time to get one, after placing orders we waited about half hour for one sandwich, one stuffed pljeskavica and 10 cevapi- restaurant at that time was half empty ! Second price: one glass of pop is %4 - no free refils, one hot chocolate 6oz is $5.50 again no refils and in my opinion this is way overpriced, at any other place for that price you will have free refils at least. This was my first time trying Serbian/Bosnian food and it was amazing! We got two big plates to share and everything was so good! My favorite was the chicken skewers. The meat was cooked super well and it was flavorful and juicy. The atmosphere of this place is also super cool with a bar right in the middle of the dining area. To all Serbians: if you're looking to get your fix of home-y food in Chicago, this is THE place. To non-Serbians: only come here if you can eat. And I mean if you can EAT! The portions are probably illegal in the states, haha. Came from NYC to see what the hype was about, and boy did I leave happy and stuffed. Came with one friend, and our eyes were obviously bigger than our appetites. We ordered a soup (veal soup; teleca corba) each, a salad (šopska) to share, a mixed meat platter, a spinach pie/pita, and Montenegrin red wine. Had a good time at Skadarliya for a friend's birthday. The staff was very accommodating to our large party. Drinks were kept full and we received our food quickly. The restaurant serves Serbian foods. We ordered a few mixed meat plates and shopska salads to share. The portion sizes were huge! All the plates were stacked with cevaps, pork & chicken kebabs, sausages, and chicken thighs! The cevaps were great but I didn't think there was quite enough flavor in the kebabs. The salad was a light and refreshing contrast to the meat platters. I would recommend this restaurant if you're in the area and wanting to try a Balkan meal. read more

Wow! I happened to be in the area for other reasons & was looking for a place for lunch. Beautiful interior, extra clean, efficient servers, and great food. I had the Skadarliya burger. Amazing, huge, cooked medium, juicy with ALL the trimmings including cheese, bacon, mushroom, sauce, & more with a fried egg on top, red onion, tomato & lettuce on the side. Fries were super crisp, hot & not greasy. One of the top 5 burgers I've ever had! Their bar & liquor assortment was extensive, including imports & more.
