For the price, this place is excellent. The all you can eat buffet has a sizable number of options, including many salad and soup options and also several meat options like chicken. About half the nights of the week the buffet has really delicious barbeque ribs and on the other nights they often have fried pork (pan fried, not deep fried) which is very tasty.
I rate the ribs and fried pork an A, and the chicken a B because while it tastes good, it's a bit dry. It might simply be the style they do that kind of chicken here because when I've had that same style chicken at two other places, it was also dry by the same amount. I would like to see another 1 or 2 chicken options in the future.
They also always have a make your own taco section in the buffet, a criollo section and pasta section. There is also fresh fruit, and a bunch of pasta/veggie salads. Of the latter, the only one I've tried is the broccoli salad and it was good.
There is a regular salad section with 1 or 2 pre-mixed salads (with dressing on them already) and a make your own section with lettuce and toppings. My opinion of it so far is that it's alright, but not excellent. If you're looking for a great salad bar, I highly recommend the Ponderosa Steakhouse on the other side of Rt. 3 in the same parking lot as the movie theater. That said, the Ponderosa all you can eat buffet doesn't have meats or a desert section, so Sizzler likely wins out if those are more important to you than salad. You can order deserts extra at Ponderosa but they add a fair amount to the cost.
This Sizzler location could improve their salad bar by making the pre-mixed salads have much more salad dressing on them. Half the time there isn't enough so they lack enough taste, and there isn't a bin with more of that same dressing, so you can't add more yourself. There might be a bin of it over in the dressings section, but they don't tell you what dressing is on it, so you wouldn't know what to add. Besides adding more dressing, they should probably put an extra bin of it right there with a ladle for adding more to your own salad.
The deserts in the buffet are delicious, especially the bread pudding and another one that I don't know the name of. They sometimes have snickerdoodle cookies which are the best snickerdoodles I've ever had. They also always have 3 soft serve ice cream flavors with a few toppings. And overall the service has been good. If someone from the restaurant is reading this, two things you could easily do to improve the service are:
1) when there is a line at the entrance waiting to pay, have 1 or 2 extra employees or managers go over to help process the people through.
2) get people their drinks or water more quickly. I often am a third of the way or half the way through my meal by the time a beverage is brought. Maybe a solution is to have a bus-person bring water soon after people sit down, so people have something to start washing their food down with while they wait for the waittress to bring drinks.
Overall, I get the pork with broccoli salad, some regular salad, a bowl of soup and 1 or 2 other things, and top if off with a couple of deserts and it's a really delicious $22 meal for $12. If you go to the majority of restaurants in Puerto Rico and get a salad, an entree and a desert, your bill will be at least $22 and likely much more. Even an entree plus desert is often $16 to $20 at non-fast food restaurants.
You'll also get a few options that you won't find at most PR restaurants such as the broccoli salad. Most restaurants here lack any variety of veggies. They mostly have the same things which I like but get sick of after a while, plus they're mostly starches (yucca) which aren't as healthy as other veggies. Also, about 95% of restaurants have the same salads: a pretty basic house salad and a caeser salad. So while the Sizzler make your own salad is average by American standards, it's very good by PR salad standards. read more
