Sitges is a slice of Mediterranean paradise. We opted to make the hour long trip here for our beach day instead of hanging at the beach in Barcelona, and it was definitely the best decision possible.
First and foremost- don't use the train as your mode of transpo. The ferry is 100% the way to go here. It's an extra five euro or so but the ferry ride is completely worth it because you get to hang outside on a boat. To me, that was half the fun of the trip!
Once the ferry docks, make sure to take the path along the water towards the main beach. We accidentally walked through town and missed out on some incredible views. The pathway is littered with fancy restaurants and shops that overlook the harbor. As you walk along the path to the ocean there are plenty of beautiful photo ops. Just be careful where you take a pic, because you've got to walk past a few nude beaches to get to the main beach. We have some interesting background in some of our photos...whooops!
The main beach isn't nude but it is topless (when in Europe) so definitely be prepared for that. To my surprise, the ocean was a bit cold, but it was absolutely gorgeous. After a week of busy touring, it felt great to lay and relax for a few hours! If you are hungry for lunch there are lots of cute beachside restaurants with fresh calamari and sangria. The restaurants back by the dock are a bit fancier, so I definitely suggest grabbing some eats by the beach if you want to keep things more casual.
The main beach in Barcelona is obviously still beautiful, but venturing to Sitges just felt extra special. Don't let the hour long trip from Barcelona dissuade you from coming! read more
