Never tasted the waters of the beach as mostly I used to just go for a paseo (walk) and to enjoy the nightlife at the many restaurants in the maritime front. Very spacious, athletic people running and exercising, a joy just to be there, walking, contemplating the sea and people watching.

Somorrostro beach is currently one of the most emblematic beaches in the city, and the beach became one of the most popular in the city. I felt comfortable in this place. When I came to this beach, the season was in Winter, but I felt a gentle warmth. Maybe it may be different from Japanese beach in winter. Though it was warmer, nobody was swimming in the Mediterranean. During the 19th century and part of the 20th century, the beach, and much of the neighboring beach areas was occupied by a shanty town, inhabited by 15,000 people living in 2,000 slums. Carmen Amaya, the most famous flamenco dancer of all time, was born here. Nowadays, it is located under the Somorrostro arcade in front of the Hospital Del Mar, the Beach Centre is an environmental education facility dedicated to promoting the city seafront. This centre organises all kinds of storytelling, visits, talks and games.

I love coming here and interacting with gays from around the world. The gay village with bars, restaurants and shops is packed to the rafters in summer and during events. There is a gay beach in the center of town and clothing optional Platja dels Balmins with its crowded gay section 10 minutes walk from the church. A secluded gay nude beach, Playa del Muerto, is a good hike. Restaurants serve spectacular fresh seafood, and paella is king. Sitges is relaxing and definitely worth the 35 minute train ride (less than €6 one way) from Barcelona.

We actually happened upon it on accident as we were walking around and then we came back our last day. Beautiful Park lots of things to see. The fountain is amazing just gorgeous huge fountain lots of birds there. Great place for pictures right beside the fountain or up the stairs to the fountain. Lots of musicians and street performers around the park. I really am a bird fanatic so I was thrilled to see so many wild parakeets in the park. There are people feeding the parakeets bird seeds and you put some in your hand and they'll land in your hand and eat there. I loved it. There are some homeless people and one of them kind of threw a insane fit while we were there but no one was hurt he kicked over a barrier and was yelling at people. But that can happen anywhere just use caution anywhere you go. We ended up going to visit twice this trip, at night. Last year, I went early in the morning. I suggest going either early in the morning or around sunset. During the day, it gets pretty crowded and very hot. This park was originally intended to become a luxury garden city with 60 houses, however, only two houses ended up being completed. Parc Güell is still my favorite works designed by Antoni Gaudi. I recommend buying tickets ahead of time but the tickets are more readily available to purchase than Sagrada Família. I was able to buy tickets for our second visit the night before, without issues. Transportation: I booked a ride via Cabify rideshare and it drops off right by the entrance of Carretera de la Carmel (east side). I highly recommend leaving the park from this side too; easiest to call a cab, as other exits you have to walk down a bit due to car restricted access.
