Add this to your Barcelona must see list. It was right beside the zoo and very close to the Arc of Triumph Arch. We actually happened upon it on accident as we were walking around and then we came back our last day. Beautiful Park lots of things to see. The fountain is amazing just gorgeous huge fountain lots of birds there. Great place for pictures right beside the fountain or up the stairs to the fountain. Lots of musicians and street performers around the park. I really am a bird fanatic so I was thrilled to see so many wild parakeets in the park. There are people feeding the parakeets bird seeds and you put some in your hand and they'll land in your hand and eat there. I loved it. There are some homeless people and one of them kind of threw a insane fit while we were there but no one was hurt he kicked over a barrier and was yelling at people. But that can happen anywhere just use caution anywhere you go. There is neat statues and there's also a little lake or pond where they had people renting rowboats we didn't do that but that looked like fun. read more

Incredibly breathtaking park!! Lots of cool areas all around. The architecture is just stunning!! So much greenery, trees, plants, and outdoor features. Many benches to sit in with shaded areas as well. Multiple ponds; saw someone riding a little kayak in one next to a ton of ducks! This park was right next to our hotel and we really enjoyed it. Barcelona in the summer can feel like a concrete jungle, so the opportunity to spend some time in this nature space was much welcomed. There is a beautiful fountain and many paths to the wander down. Bring your binoculars if you're into birds, as there are many to see here. Absolutely stunning! Barcelona has so many beautiful parks, and La Ciutadella is definitely one of them. This was personally my favorite smaller park to visit. And by "smaller" I don't mean small. This park is actually pretty dang huge, but there are so many grand parks by comparison. Parc de la Ciutadella is an excellent park to explore during your time in Barcelona. The park features Cascada Monumental (a beautiful cascade fountain), a large pond fountain, walking trails, a small lake, gardens, and several sculptures. The park also shares a space with the Barcelona City Zoo. When you enter the park, you'll be enamored by how lush and green it is. This was one of Barcelona's first ever green spaces and I can totally understand why. The gardens are absolutely stunning and the park holds some of the city's most old trees and foliage. Cascada Monumental and the pond fountain are both gorgeous. This fountain was actually one of Gaudí's earliest works and not many people are aware of this. The Roman Gazebo is super charming. You can walk up the steps, stand underneath it, and simply admire its' beauty. You can also look down at the pond fountain and the rest of the park from it as well. The views are amazing from inside the gazebo! There are several walking paths that are used by walkers, runners, and bikers alike. Many people like to enjoy the paths to take a leisurely stroll as they admire the park. There are so many neat sculptures too! I feel like this park could be considered an outdoor museum as there's lots to see from an art perspective. There's also a lake where I saw a few people on row boats. Lots of green space for picnicking, relaxing, and to let the kids and dogs roam freely. The picture taking opportunities seem to be endless. It's truly and striking park from all angles. Definitely make some time to check out Parc de la Ciutadella when in Barcelona. read more

I visited this park with a large group of students of our school a few weeks ago in mid March. It was a beautiful day for a picnic, sunny and 60°. Like most people said, it's a great place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. Definitely recommend stopping by the Santa Catarina market to get some delicious food for the picnic. Don't forget to bring a blanket to sit on as there are many grassy, areas and trees, but lots of dirt pads, and a few benches here and there. there are people selling blankets, snacks, samosas, an Indian chai, but we had so much food need to buy anything. There's a place to rent boats for 30 minutes, which could be a great activity for older kids or adults. We did have a minor incident with a local teen, but we were able to sort it out with his teacher. I'd definitely return if I were back in Barcelona and I would joy beautiful green space. read more

This park is a beautiful park in the center of the city that is completely free. It has a garden and a greenhouse and lots of areas to get lost and explore. I actually had a photoshoot here and got some awesome shots. They have a zoo in the park that is not free but if you walk to the top of the steps you can see some of the animals. Located in the Goth area of Barcelona The Parc de la Ciutadella is a large, fairly flat green oasis. A great place to stroll, or relax on a bench or the lawn. You can even row a boat on the lake. On the grounds, there are several attractions: a zoo, Catalan Parliament, Museu d'Art, and Museu de Geology. As well as several great pieces of art and statues. In 1714, a citadel was placed on this ground by a Bourbon king. Later the Citadel was converted into a prison - mostly for political prisoners. At the Passeig de Pujades there is a statue of General Prim, who gave the order for closing of the citadel. In 1998, the World Exhibition was placed here. Later the park was designed by Josep Fontsère, and then unknown architect Antoni Gaudí. Together they designed the waterfall Cascada. An interesting monument with a mixture of stone, metals and color overlooking a large water feature.The water basin is guarded by winged dragons, a figure quite commonly found in Gaudi's work. One of my favorite spots. The Castle of the Three Dragons was closed during my visit, but from the outside very interesting to view. Another modernisme building built between 1887-1888 as a Café for the 1888 Universal Exposition. The Umbracle, botanical gardens were also closed during my visit. You can exit the park near the Parliament and enjoy a walk along the Mediterranean. read more

The park is pretty big. Free admission. There were a lot of homeless there which is why a star was removed. Maybe there can be a local shelter the homeless can go, so that it won't dampen the peaceful image of the architecture and the waterfalls. Other than that, I think it's a must see for any tourist. This park was connected to the Barcelona zoo and a quick walk from the Gothic Quarter. The park was very well maintained and beautiful. They have many sculptures all along their paths with an absolutely gorgeous fountain (my favorite part). The fountain is extremely intricate, bold, and beautiful. The park itself is rather small, so it would be a quick trip maybe 20-30 minutes to get through the entire thing while enjoying the sites if you don't linger too long. I highly suggest checking it out if you have a break in between your other tourist attractions since it is quick, free, and beautiful. read more

Park of the Citadel! This park used to be the grounds for a military citadel back in the day. Now, it has been given back to the people. It's a lush park, with lakes, lots of grass, and plenty of places to relax, hang out. You can even go boating on the lake with some paddle boats that you can rent. I found a giant life-sized mastodon that looked like Snuffelufagus near the lake. Turns out, a sculptor was trying to make a whole sculpture zoo of dinosaur and extinct animals to show their massive size. This park has a gigantic guilded fountain of the dragons of Barcelona that spray water- the fountain was designed, in part, by Gaudi, the famous architect. This park has pubic restrooms! We found free restrooms by the ice cream stand near the fountain. We witnessed the thorough cleaning job that the restrooms got, and I venture to say we got some of the cleanest public park restrooms I've ever been in. On the way in to the park, be sure to check out the Arc of Triomph that doesn't really celebrate any military triumph, but just sort of triumphs in general. When we entered the park, we saw lots of dudes selling huge blankets that you can sit out on and have a fine picnic, or turn in to a groovy wall covering or bed spread. Righteous. There's a zoo in this park, but I didn't make it there. read more

Even though it's only seventy acres, this is indeed Barcelona's answer to Central Park. Established in the middle of the 19th century when the reviled citadel was dismantled (thus the park's name), it was the city's only green space for decades. Remnants of the fortress still exist but used as a secondary school and the Catalan Parliament building. Maybe we came at the wrong time of year (early October) but this park was not very impressive to me. Every bit of grassy area was taken up by people hassling you to sell blankets so it was not very relaxing and the greenery overall was lacking. The park itself seemed to be almost neglected. The fountain in the middle was indeed beautiful to look at but honestly the surrounding brings it down. I would come here for some quick views of the fountain and to see the Arc de Triomf across the street but that's about it. read more

This was a beautiful attraction we visited Barcelona. The park was big and clean and you could easily get lost. The day before my friend and I had walked from the Arc de Triomf and passed the zoo but didn't realize this park was in the same vicinity. Like most people, the first area I wanted to check out was the fountain. I walked the steps and took in all the surrounding greenery and architecture. There were a lot of people taking pictures and just enjoying the views throughout the park. There are areas you can sit and people watch. There's a cute pond with lots of birds you can rent a paddle boat on (which we avoided since the pond is honestly far too small to accommodate that boat traffic despite others clearly enjoying it) and a few nice monuments as well. We tried several times during our visit to get into this park, but due to the protests (regarding independance for Catalonia), it was closed. On our last full day, we decided to give it one more try and it was open ! The park is very large and at one end is the zoo and the other end the placa where the Arc de Triomf is. The draw for us was a fountain, which we heard described as stunning ..and it totally is worth the trip alone. While strolling the grounds we came across cement ping pong tables (which were being used), a huge pond with row boats for rent, hidden statues, big promenades and beautiful gardens. It is a pretty city park just west of Barceloneta. I entered through the Arc de Triomf. It is a beautiful, red arch that was built by architect Josep Vilaseca I Casanovas as the gate to the 1888 Barcelona World Fair. It leads into the Passeig de Lluís Companys, which is a gorgeous promenade with rows of trees that line each side. The promenade leads into the park. It is a good park to walk around. The main attraction is the fountain in the north part of the park. It features a large, multilevel pool with sculptures and stairs that lead to an impressive arch at the top. There is also a zoo at the east end of the park. I would not say Parc de la Ciutadella is a must do but it was an enjoyable stop on my way to Barceloneta. This here is another of Barcelona's great monuments. I is a very beautiful park to take a stroll on If you have some time. Definitely climb up the stairs towards the statue if you want a closer view. I would warn you however about the people giving free coconut or whatever away. They, as others throughout the city who hand you stuff , expect a generous money contribution in return. If not, they will probably become angry and start cursing at you. But don't let thats stop you from going. Simply,kindly tell them no thanks and rest assure they will carry on to someone else. Beautiful park that reminds me of Central Park! Awesome fountain designed by Gaudi. While we were in Barcelona, we accidentally stumbled upon the Parc de la Ciutadella when we were out for our morning run. (Half Marathon training) It wasn't on our list of places to see while we were Barcelona but wow I'm glad we found this place! The park was SO beautiful that I wanted to come back later that day to take pictures of EVERYTHING because who goes out for a run with their cameras? I also wanted to show my friends on the trip this nice ASS park. It was like I was transported into another world. Into PARADISE! The park was big, green everywhere. The fountain there was amazing. I wanted to spend ALL day there. Which you can since there's a lake here, a zoo, and two museums! Even the walk to the park was cool because you get to also see Barcelona's Arc de Triompf! This is a beautiful park to take photos and its on the way to the Arc de Triomf from the Picasso museum. It's also a great place to chill and have a picnic lunch on the picnic tables or on the grass. The fountain was drained when I stopped by but regardless, it's still magnificent. Note: it's not paved everywhere, so your shoes may get dusty. read more

Breathtaking fountain!!! I came to la Ciutadella to see the fountain. The park big. Make sure you read the map to take the quickest path to the fountain. The fountain is huge. 4.5 I stumbled upon this park completely by accident. I was doing my usual -- taking the train somewhere, getting off and exploring -- when my wanderings led me to a bunch of noise. Wanting to check it out, I saw an inviting green space. As I have written about many times on here, green spaces are my nature spots of choice so I made a beeline for the green stuff. This park is magically delicious. It's not the architectural wonder of Parc Guell. Instead, the magic of this park comes from the people, elements, location, and design. The people are hilarious. I felt like I was transported back to my liberal arts college past. All around me were drum circles, dirty hippies and the smells of patchouli, body odor, marijuana, and horseshit. I heard Peter, Paul & Mary, the Indigo Girls and Tupac. The crush of humanity was a thing of beauty. In addition to the dirty hippies (have we cycled back to them yet), there were throngs of tourists, families, children running wild, grandparents on their last nerve, and couples looking for grassy knolls on/in which to do the nasty. The elements are wondrous. Being a park, there are all sorts of trees, flowers, trails, and inviting leas for exploration. Additionally, there are random sculptures that make for great photo opps.* My favorite elements, though, involved water. The fountain/castle is breathtaking. Not only is it a stunning visual, but it's interactive, as you can climb it, engage in the water element and spend time hypnotized by its glory. There's also a small lake, perfect for a romantic row around the park. I wouldn't get in it as the liquid looked very Toxic Avenger-ish but the sentiment was nice. If you knew where you were going beforehand (I did not), you would know that the park is close to the zoo, the Arc de Triomf (had no idea there was one in Barcelona) and some cool neighborhood details. Keep your camera at the ready because the scene changes quickly and you're going to want to be able to capture everything with a quickness. Not to fear: there are plenty of nearby shops for all your eat & drink needs. While not the Gaudi dreamscape of other Barcelona sites, I found this park to be both highly functional in design as well as highly entertaining. There was always something new to discover and engage yet the oblong shape made sense and isn't so circuitous as to be disorienting. It's just enough Alice in Wonderland to entertain without being overwhelming. What a happy accident. I need to get lost while exploring more often. *Just be sure to go in and grab your opportunity, as waiting in line like a gentleman is a f00ls errand. read more

Every time I went to Barcelona some events were there. It's located 2 minutes from the beach and just few minutes walk from Placa Catalunya.
