La Playa de la Barceloneta was fine considering I went in the cold winter. Well, cold for Barcelona at least. My friend told me that the beach is like a public toilet in the summer. In the winter, it was pretty dead. There were few people out, but the beach still looked somewhat dirty. There wasn't much to do since it was too cold to swim, but the sand was soft, and the ocean views were nice. We waded a bit and just relaxed on the sand. The bus stops right by the beach. The public restrooms were only open for ridiculously limited hours, something like 11am-2:30pm.

Mediterranean beach This beach is in the city area and because of this, they get crowded in high season. I reached here early in the morning to avoid the crowd. There were hardly any people at that time. We strolled around the beach before crowd pours. The seawater and sand are cleaned daily. They are cleanest in the morning but can get a bit littered at the end of a busy beach day. We can all help by taking your litter with you or putting your litter in the provided bins. There is not very much to rent at the beach. Barcelona is not a beach resort, but a city with a beach, so there are few watersport rentals on Barcelona beaches. There are no pedal boat rentals on Barcelona beaches. But still, you can find a few shops across the road to rent something, but not very popular though. The beach swimming season in Barcelona is generally from May to mid-September when the Barcelona seawater temperature is most comfortable for swimming. All Barcelona beaches have the European blue flag of excellence awarded for water quality and services. Vendors walk around selling everything from mojitos to on-the-spot massages, also there are cafes and bars situated on the beach throughout. The beach features loads of amenities on-site including bathrooms, showers, changing rooms, umbrellas, lounge chairs, sports courts such as volleyball and beach tennis and more. Well if you are in the city, you should not miss this.

Woohoo, love this beach! And boy is there lots to love! It's huge! We arrived on a Sunday morning and it was packed with people. But, everyone did behave themselves. People seem to really respect each other. We started on the south side near the W and then worked ourselves to the north side towards the Marriott. I Ike the north side a lot better, with it's less pebbly sand that's easier on your feet, inside and outside the water. The sand is brown and coarser than say a Caribbean sand. However, it does brush off your skin a lot easier when it's time to clean up. There are tons of bars on the beach and right on the boardwalk. It's nonstop, and I was loving every minute of it, ordering water and drinks throughout the day, either sitting at their patios, or doing the "take away" back to our beach blanket. There are lots of options for lunch or dinner here as well. We ate lunch at an Maluke Beach Club near the W and Bacoa for lunch near the north end and had really nice outdoor patio meals. There are restrooms and showers throughout the strip near the beach. Yes, there are vendors selling booze and water, however if you sit close to the water, they can't really bother you. I wouldn't trust what they are selling anyway. I did see a group of girls from NY get cheated by one of the vendors. Stay away from them, despite their advertised low drink prices. If you want a cold drink, just walk up to one of the beach clubs and buy them there. There is public nudity here, mostly the top, however you did see the odd one with it all hanging out. That's just the way it is. The whole place is very clean, with lots of trash bins, and they recycle too. The color of the water is green and pretty clear. In late August it was a good warm temperature, only taking my body about 5 minutes to get used to it. All in all a great day at the beach, and will definitely be back!

If you don't mind crowds and the constant solicitors walking by this is a great beach. How many major metropolitan cities have a beautiful beach right in the center of things? The beach is free for everyone. If you walk further from the port the beach is wider and less crowded. There are beach bars all along the beach for food and drinks. Plenty of free public restrooms and changing areas too. You will have to deal with solicitors constantly walking by selling everything from blankets and jewelry to cold beer and mojitos. I didn't say it was all bad right :) One star off because of the jellyfish. I have never been to a beach with so many large jellyfish. There were so many jellyfish that they had yellow flags up and constant loud speaker announcements in multiple languages.

Barcelona is a city so rich in culture, history, Picasso, paella, and Gaudi-centric architecture that it almost seems incidental that it also has a great beach scene. There are actually several city beaches, but this is the one most tourists flock to after a stroll in Barri Gòtic or La Ramblas. After all, the city's stream of life pours right into the Mediterranean Sea much like most southern European ports do such as Marseille, Naples and Athens. So why wouldn't there be a beach to attract sun worshippers and seafood lovers alike? And hell, of course it's crowded no matter what the weather is like because it's a place to be seen. Flaunt it, baby, flaunt it. For better and worse, it was a gorgeous day when we let the sand tickle our toes. Barceloneta Beach reminds me of Santa Monica or Venice in LA where people of varying physiques from chiseled like The Rock to unformed Play-Doh huddle on towels - not with each other, of course - in the hope of bronzing themselves without burning skin cells (photo). There appeared to be a lot more hawkers on the cement walkway than I recalled from our last visit nine years ago, but what stays constant are the beachside eateries and bars (photo: http://bit.ly/2jBaG8W) and Rebecca Horn's "Homenatge a la Barceloneta", the rusted block sculpture which looks like a precariously balanced stack of boxes (photo: http://bit.ly/2jj68qT). The neighborhood has a similarly ramshackle appearance (photo: http://bit.ly/2Bo2bIV), but it's all part of the Catalan charm, ain't it?

Can walkable beach. Although there was a little distance, I walked from Las Ramblas. The beach is very sunny and the Mediterranean beach is the best. There are benches, monuments and restaurants. There was also a pool where the sea could be seen. I was able to sit on the bench and take a break.

Breathe. That is the smell of the Mediterranean Sea tickling your olfactory nerves, sending powerful synapses to your brain to release those endorphins putting you in a happy state. Breathe. That is the smell of your coconut scented SPF 45 suntan lotion. You may not be on a tropical island, but the warm sun is enough to make you believe that you are. (plus, those palm trees in the distance are pretty convincing too) Relax. With earplugs, sink into a deep slumber or take a short nap. But this beach is more for people watching: between the topless girls and the American frat boy hitting on the topless girls, you wouldn't want to miss any of the action. Vendors abound here carrying trays of food/drinks (donuts? samosas? mojitos?) or trying to coerce you into a half an hour massage. If beach volleyball is your thing, they have a set-up for that, otherwise, throw a frisbee around. You can count on clean bathrooms, but no soap for washing hands. The imposing W Hotel on the far distance makes for quite a view. After you're done spending time here, stroll the boardwalk and check out the many tapas restaurants around you.

It's a bit of trek on two connecting metros (at least from my hotel) and about a 10 minute walk from the stop to the beach. But just to have the glorious sun touch my skin and along with the smell of the Mediterranean, makes it all worth it. Right when I started to get comfortable, I hear, "Mojito mam fresh mojito?" Other vendors, proceeded with, ice cold beer...? Blanket? Massagiee? Braids?" It does ruin your zen while laying out. Until our time at Playa de Barcolenta I did not see any of the roaming vendors that were all over Rome..well with the exception of some trying to sell selfie sticks. But, at least the vendors here aren't very aggressive unlike in Italy. The beach wasn't overly crowded on a Sunday around 1 or 2, but started to fill up more before we left. There are wash off stations and you can see the ultra mod W Hotel slightly in the distance. I heard guests there get their own private beach area. We did think about staying there but it's so far from everything. Way further down there is a nude beach, however, it is Europe, so there were plenty of tops coming off here. The sand isn't super soft and there was some debris on the beach. Playa de Barcolenta is a must go your first time, since it's the main beach and great for people watching. Next time I may walk further down to one of the more secluded beaches. Oh, and another plus for this beach, if you get a little hungry on your walk back to the metro, there's an amazing French fry shop on the way back. Until next time Barcelona!

Barceloneta beach is beautiful and idyllic but ruined by the Vietnamese woman hassling you every 2 mins for a massage, one lady actually put her hands on me and I had to swipe her away and tell her no countless times and she laughed and eventually walked away. In the end I blatantly ignored them as they stood beside me until they moved on, they finally got the hint that I wasn't going to be persuaded. So if it wasn't for these woman, Barceloneta beach would be tip top! The beach is clean, there are plenty of toilets dotted along the prom and restaurants and cafes, perfect on a hot sunny day, it costs €10 to get a sun lounger on the beach but I wouldn't unless you want hassled constantly.

My roommate and I went here while we were in Barcelona for the weekend. We literally just looked up the closest beach to our hostel and this one came up with a decent rating. We definitely weren't being picky - we just knew we had to go to the beach while we were in Barcelona! When we got there, we were actually happy that there were those annoying people trying to sell stuff to you because we needed to buy a beach towel since we didn't have one. We ended up bargaining for a huge beach blanket for only 10 euros. It was super cute, too, and my roommate let me keep it even though we split the cost. Either way it was perfect for a lazy beach day, which is basically all we wanted. Also, once we had the blanket, all those people pretty much left us alone and didn't keep trying to sell us stuff. The beach was pretty crowded, but it was a beautiful day so it didn't really bother or surprise us. The most surprising thing? All the topless women. It wasn't a nude beach, but a lot of the women didn't have any bathing suit tops on. Maybe that's just a Spain thing? After the initial realization, it's pretty easy to ignore. The water was also GORGEOUS. It looked pretty clear and clean, and it was such a beautiful teal color. Overall, we didn't really have any issues with the beach. Everyone left us alone and we got to relax under the radiant Barcelona sun for a few hours. It was nice because the strand had a bunch of seafood restaurants that we could choose from, too. Not really any shops, but we did go to one of the restaurants for an early dinner and it was delicious with an awesome view of the ocean and beach we were just at. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because of how crowded it was. If it had been a less touristy beach - there would've been nothing more perfect! I really miss Barcelona and this beach is definitely one of the main reasons why!

This playa in some ways reminds me of South Beach in Miami, except you don't have to deal with Jersyfied d-bags, it's that much cooler since you are on the gorgeous Mediterranean and topless sunbathing is totally acceptable, and may I say, absolutely comfortable and liberating! A wide and long strip of soft sand with Barcelona metropolis in the background. it can get pretty busy. If you are looking for some shade and refreshments, many cafe and small restaurant options are available. I highly recommend renting a bicycle and strolling along the beach drive, the marina and the beautiful square at the end of La Rambla, as you start your trek towards the playa. You can also grab a beach chair and a guy will come around to collect 8 euro for the day. We even found a small "Muscle Beach" - it was a kids playground, where guys would hang out, do at least five intense pull ups and then walk around giving each other quiet up nods :-) It was quite entertaining. Of course my bf, had to show off with some Crossfit skills, and was instantly the cool guy on the play ground, LOL. Definitely add this as a day adventure on your trip to Barcelona.

The beaches of Barcelona are world-class. Second to none. Clean, wi-fi enabled, massive promenade and walkway where people walk, run, ride bikes, skateboard, and sit on benches watching the world go by. The beach itself is incredibly clean - did I say this already - because its worth mentioning multiple times. The great sandy line that stretches for miles along Barcelona's coast is simply amazing. It's got dozens of bars, places to eat and things to do (sea kayaking anyone?). On this morning, an amazing thing happened. I was hanging out in one spot taking pictures and a guy approached me. He was a little rough around the edges, so I stepped back a half step (see my review of the Castleton Post Office for more on this reaction). Anyway, he came up to me and said "Listen... Listen" (more like "Leesan," then more emphatically... "Leeeeesaaaan.") Then he backed up a couple of feet, stood on one foot and raised his arms into the air and gave peace signs to his imaginary and adoring fans. This guy was telling me something. I think I heard them too, given the power of his conviction. The moment was priceless and I got the shot. I thanked him, we laughed and he left. Lots of good learnings from this moment. Its about not always having to take yourself to the world, but sometimes letting the world come to you. It will, but sometimes we make it more difficult because we're a constantly moving target. Beaches always have this effect on me - introspection, but the beaches in Barcelona have it in spades.

Got in an early morning jog to here and decided to watch the sunrise. It was really beautiful since there was no one on the beach, except a few other doing the same and folks that managed to go clubbing all night long. I hung out there for about an hour and found it relaxing.
