This salon is fantastic! I will be coming regularly from the Bronx to Brooklyn to do my daughters'…read morehair. My youngest one is a cry baby and drama queen. She was true to form and the stylist handled her with compassion and class. At the end she was beaming and shouted "I will come back again." She was complemented all the way home and now her head size is too big for her little body. You now have a loyal customer. Shining Star is clean, stylish, modern and easy to get to. It's a new salon and I wish them all the luck in the world. They are far better than all the other kids salons in the neighborhood.

I went to Shining Star Kids Hair Salon with my 5-year-old for the second time, and unfortunately, I…read morewill not be returning. First, when entering the salon, there was no greeting or acknowledgment, and it was unclear who would be doing my child's hair aside from the name listed on my booking. Professionalism and communication were lacking from the start. Second, some of the stylists have negative attitudes, which is unacceptable in a space that caters to children. My daughter had her hair braided by a stylist named Tiffany, who showed very little patience. She repeatedly complained that my daughter wasn't holding her head still and became visibly frustrated. Rather than maintaining composure and professionalism, she started shutting down, stopped braiding my daughter's hair, and got on her phone, behaving immaturely and unprofessionally as if she were the child. Her behavior was disgusting, and after finishing my daughter's hair, she acted as if she were mad at her. The energy in that salon is very strange for adults who claim to specialize in braiding children's hair. As an educator who works with children daily, I know that patience, empathy, and understanding are essential, especially when working with young children. You never know if a child has a disability or other challenges that affect their comprehension or ability to follow directions. If a stylist is not comfortable working with children or lacks the temperament for it, perhaps this is not the right profession for them. Overall, this experience was disappointing and unacceptable. I hope the salon addresses these concerns and ensures all staff are trained to interact with children in a patient, kind, and professional manner.

Excellent service with great haircuts and stylists who listen. Today I went to Skye for a slight…read morestyle change with a new shape. She took the time to really understand what I wanted. I wanted to bring back my bangs, but make them look fuller. She cut my hair in a way that achieved that. I enjoyed how she worked with me, and the result was beautiful and highly flattering to my face and hair texture! Highly recommend Skye!

But what makes me unwilling to ever go back, was how the payment process went. After I got the haircut, I went to the register. Instead of handing me the credit card device (think it's referred to as "toast" because that's the company that makes them), the woman held it away from me, and into an alcove where I couldn't reach it. She asked if I wanted to leave a tip, which of course I wanted to, but without handing me the device, she held her hand over 25% and asked rhetorically "25%? " I have to say, I've never been in that kind of situation before. That kind of high-pressure tactic was deeply unpleasant, and enough to alert people not to go to that salon, or at the very least, before you get to the register, make it clear you intend to have the device put in your hand.

There was uplifting pop music playing but not too loud to be distracting, and there were no TVs to distract from the exposed brick walls, chill decor, and shining tools. I had a very disappointing experience at Sheer Madness today…read more I arrived only a minute or two after my scheduled appointment and was prepared to wait, as I understand appointments can run behind. While waiting, another customer arrived approximately 10 minutes after I did. When the barber asked for her appointment time, it turned out we were both scheduled for the same slot. Despite arriving after me, she was taken first. At that point, I chose to leave. Being overlooked in favor of someone who arrived later felt unprofessional and reflected poor customer service. As a customer, I felt completely unseen. What makes this especially disappointing is that this was my second visit. My first experience was excellent and resulted in one of the best haircuts I've had in a long time, which is the only reason I'm giving two stars instead of one. I had high hopes based on my first visit, but unfortunately this experience left me with a very different impression. I understand mistakes happen, but a simple acknowledgment, apology, or explanation would have gone a long way.
