He would not talk much about his program over the phone with my wife and said he had to come to our house to explain how it works. Long story short, he ended up taking our dog on a very short walk and we were so impressed by our dog's behavior while on the walk, we decided to pay Rick's fee up front which he represented to us would be for one year of training at about one hour per session per week. The total averaged about $50 per hour. Of the seven sessions we hung in there for and used his services, only two came close to being a full hour. Most were 15 to 30 minutes in duration. He kept telling us that was all our dog needed or could handle. That is one reason we became unhappy. The other reason we became disenchanted with Mr. Walkley is that he always chose and notified us by text when the next session would be. He did not let us first check our calendar. He did not even suggest the next training date options at the end of a session before leaving. He simply left, selected a date, and notified us as to when he would be available. If the date he selected was not good for us, it was 1-3 days later before we heard from him regarding another date he had selected. My wife requested on more than one occasion that he pick a same day/same time every week so we could plan. We advised him that there was only one day of the week that typically did not work for us and he often selected that day for training our dog. So, after seven training sessions over more than a six-month period of time, we called it quits and asked for a prorated refund of our money. He then explained to us that the upfront fee we paid was a discounted amount for our single payment and if we cancelled early, his normal fee of $195 per session would apply and he could only give us a credit toward future training. This condition was never explained to us. He did eventually provide some waiver of liability forms that alluded to the discount but did not disclose the numbers. Once we convinced him that we no longer felt comfortable dealing with him and that we were prepared to file suit, he offered his original reduced refund in cash in exchange for signing a "General Release Agreement" which would prevent us from posting any negative reviews. We refused to agree with that. It seems likely that is why he has no negative reviews on the internet. Rick Walkley talks the talk but he doesn't walk the walk. He expects to set the date and time of each session without first checking with you, he won't set weekly appointments, and he spends only a few minutes training your dog. Beyond that, he wants you to do the training but provides very little guidance and instruction for you. Let's face it, how much can he do in 15-20 minutes average training time for either the dog or the owner. It's your choice but if you decide to use Focus Dog Training be sure that you get everything in writing before paying your money.

Because we only have her, she loves all the other dogs and loves to socialize. I never worry about her when I'm gone and she's always happy to go back. Schomer is located near Conroe. Despite living in Southwest Houston, I felt this kennel was worth the drive for the services I used. The first time I used his services was back in 1998, with my boxer/pitbull mix named Bailey. Bailey was a jackass before introduced to Schomer. I was told it would take about a month, and given the reasonable fee structure at the time. As we approached the end of the month he was there, I got a call with an update from Mr. Schomer who told me about Bailey's progress. While my dog had definitely made some accomplishments, Schomer felt I would be happier if he kept him for another month. This was not a negative thing AT ALL. Read the second sentence of this paragraph again. In fact, Schomer insisted that I come up to see how things were going for myself. We watched from indoors as Schomer brought Bailey out and demonstrated the newly learned behaviors. I was in tears and absolutely amazed. Once Bailey graduated from the program after the second month, he truly was a different dog. He went from being a problem child to being an obedient dog. As a bonus, my smaller dog, Noah (English pointer), had picked up on Bailey's training and began mimicking Bailey. I had very good success walking Bailey and maintaining control around other dogs. Interestingly, Noah did not require a leash moving forward and became an even more amazing dog. Fast forward later in Noah's life to 2012, I had moved to the Woodlands and it became more convenient to use this kennel for boarding. There were some times I was traveling extensively and had turned to Schomer for help. Noah was much older at this time, and Schomer was very helpful in diagnosing an issue for me. I've been taking my Mini Aussie to Lorena for training for over a year starting when my dog was a…read morepuppy. I started with private at home lessons to work through a complete fear of the car. Lorena constantly adjusted the training as needed to my dogs specific issues and personality. I appreciate that all training was in a positive manner. My dog now willingly jumps into her crate in the car with no hesitation. We have moved on to private classes at the facility and then participated in our first group nose work classes. While it's been a long process I see great improvements in both my ability to work with my dog and my dogs overall training. I would highly recommend.

He has stayed once overnight and I didn't once worry that he was anxious as he had been at previous boarding places. Part of my problem is that I have a Great Dane, a little over a year old (and I'm embarrassed to say), that I have not socially acclimated well. I called the clinic ahead of time and asked about their waiting room area because this had been an issue with my last vet's office. I explained my circumstances and they said call us in the parking lot when you arrive and we will let you know when a room is open so you can take him right in. I arrived 15 minutes early and they did just as they had promised. The wait to see the vet tech was a little long but she apologized and said they had an emergency that morning so they were running behind. I can understand and appreciate that. The tech advised me of the packages and what was recommended but not necessary and even waited while I called my boarding facility to see what they required for his future stays. They took Brutus into the back to weigh him and a few minutes after asked me to come back to help get him on the scales. I managed to coax the front half of him on and 2 of the vet techs helped "load" the back end of him on. He was 156.6 lbs so it was no small feat and I appreciated the two ladies' efforts. Dr. Martin was great. Super patient with administering the vaccinations and advising me on my puppy's care. I had asked for my boy's nails to be dremmeled. Here's where they really showed that they care about my business and taking care of my pet. Brutus wiggled, squirmed, turned over a chair and did everything he could to get away from the three of us and having his nails trimmed. After about 10 minutes we finally got him calmed down enough to basically accept his fate. lol If you care about good customer service and making sure your pet is in the right hands I highly recommend this vet clinic. They have won my business after a year's search.
