SEXIST EMPLOYEES - Was recently at a private party held at Sissy K's Upstairs. They have very wide benches connected to the wall for people to sit/dance on. I was dancing on it with my friend (I'm a male, she's a female) and the guy working at the party said "You can't be up there get down." So I turned to my friend and said "The guy wants us to get down." The guy then told me, "Nah, girls can dance up there, but no guys." I was absolutely dumbfounded. The fact that it was a PRIVATE PARTY (not a public room) made it a lot worse. Like what was the reason?? A couple of my friends tried to dance on the bar later, and different employees told them the same thing. DJ was good and bartenders were nice, but I'm not sure if it's worth going back to Sissy K's to be treated like that. read more

$1.50 budlight drafts. is there really more to say? if it weren't for the excessively cheap beer, i probably wouldn't frequent this place. the crowd tends to be pretty lame, and the music downstairs is usually really really loud. still, my friends and i often plan to start the night off there to save some cash. best to get there early to avoid the cover and grab a table. they usually "run out" of the cheap drafts after a certain point. that's usually our cue to head elsewhere! read more

Great spot to get drinks but the people who go to this bar are very trashy. Had some drunk girl try to fight my boyfriend after she stole his drink out of his hand. They kicked her right out. Floor is always really dirty and wet from drinks being spilt! They have a cover to which they shouldn't because the place is to small and sweaty! read more

I like the deivision of this place (dance upstairs typically live music downstairs. Only problem is expensive drink (typical of Fanueil Hall) and crowded dance floor. I typically have a good time when I go here, despite the lack of elbow room. Not a place to go and talk, though. read more

Beer draft special is good, but the place is WAY too small - you can't move to enjoy your beer. I love kareoke, but this place sucks. They do not have a good song selection, the people who sing are boring, and it is too loud to actually hear the people. This will become your new favorite after work bar. It is located right on the edge of Faneuil Hall and is one of the more fun bars in the area. They have Karaoke down stairs and a DJ upstairs so you can bounce between the 2 floors. The staff is pretty much all good looking 20 something year old chicks. I have never paid a cover, no idea if they even have one. This place normally fills up by 11ish on Th,Fri,Sat nights so get there around 10. This place is a fun haunt to check out and has a solid line up of regulars. If you want a new bar or are in the area check it out, you wont be upset. Oh and the budlight drafts are about $2 each, so drink up. read more

Terrible service. I went here for my friend's 21st birthday and was repeatedly told I could not dance on the stage with all of my girl friends (and my boyfriend). I spoke to the manager before leaving the bar about the rule and he was not willing to listen to my very calm reasoning of why I thought it was sexist, homophobic, and lazy to prohibit an entire gender from being with their friends and having a good time. His only reply was that I was drunk and being aggressive towards him. A girl waiting in line with her boyfriend spoke up to tell him that I was in no way being aggressive and he yelled at her and kicked her out of the line. I will never again give money to this bar and its bigoted manager. read more

Walking around waiting on a later flight, I Stopped in for a beer and very happy I did. The bartender, Brittany, was very friendly and accommodating. The Clam chowder was also awesome. I ordered a cup and instantly regretted not getting the bowl. Seemed to me like the best price bar for the area. I will definitely return next and every time I come to Boston! This place definitely has its regulars. I've been in there a few times once for lunch and the others for drinks. It always seems to be really packed at nights especially for karaoke. There are two floors which is nice to spread out. The top floor was a dance floor and dj. As for the lunch it was nothing special and no one else was in there except my friend and I. read more

I went to Sissy K's earlier today trying to get some food to eat and maybe a couple of drinks before heading home. I found 2 gift certificates that I had from that place in one of my wallets. One had a receipt, which I couldn't remember if I had $36.56 left on it or if I had spent that much. The other, I never used. Both had $100 marked on the back. I'd given one to someone to use as recentlly as last week, and couldn't remember which one nor how much was left on the card. So, I arrived at the door and I asked the bouncer if there was a food menu b/c I wanted to grab something to go; & a way to check the balances before I order b/c I didn't want to order and not be able to pay. He said, yes and that the manager should be able to let me know either way. He pointed it her out me and told me her name was either Emily or Michele but I can't remember. Anyways, I went to her and I said the name I was told, she responded; and I asked her if she was the manager and she said yes. Then I asked her if she could check the balances on the cards for me. She took the 1st card and purpusely slid it the wrong way and kept slidding it wrong, until another staff approached her. Then she tried the other one, the correct way and a receipt printed out and she told me that the machine was telling her I had zero balance. I said, OK. Thanks and asked her if I could please have that printed receipt w/zero balance and she acted like she didn't hear me. So, I left thinking I'll resolve this in the morning. I walked to The Wild Rover and did the same thing and the waitress checked for me. She told me to sit anywhere and I told her that I was going to the bar since I just wanted a quick bite to eat and was prob going to get it to go so I could eat it by the water. I sat at the bar and the bartender asked what I wanted to drink and I told her my order. While she was taking my order, I noticed that manager walking in from Sissy K's and heading to the bar by the register. Bartender poured my drink and told me the price and I said I wanted to get some food to go too but I was paying w/a gift card; and asked her if I should pay as I go or if I should give her my credit card to open up a tab. She said she could take care of the bill for me now and then bring me a menu. When she went to the register, where the Sissy K's manager was standing, they had a talk. Then she came back and said the machine was not accepting gift cards. Then I asked if they were accepting credit cards and they said yes and that they could take care of the bill for me. Not knowing what that meant, I put $5 on the bar, which she walked away from. I put it back in my pockets. The server who had checked for me walked over and heard me asking another re:the cc and said, oh, the gift card isn't working again? Then the other one was like, no it's not substracting $ from the gift card, which is bs b/c the person I gave the cards to were able to use them w/out problem. After I drink my beer, I walked back to Sissy K's and asked the bouncer again for the name of the manager; and noticed he'd lost his friendly verve. I said, "that manager's name was Emily right," and he was like, "no the one who swiped it's name is Michelle." White people always think being coiniving is a sign of thinking on their feet. Anyways, I want my $ back from both establishments b/c I'm never going to either again. I used to bring large 200+ groups meetup folks and power profesionals from conferences that I help organize to these bars. Never again. Y'all are a bunch of RACIST SHITS. I have had a really good experience here, as well as an annoying one. It happens unfortunately. I went there on a casual date one afternoon and got buzzed off of their amazing selection of 4$ margaritas, frozen or on the rocks in almost any flavor (downstairs). The service was attentive and kind, with my glass never empty. I cannot speak well for the service after dark however. The drinks are then given in TINY plastic cups instead of the typical glasses those drinks are served in (slightly understandable since glass breaks easily when dropped, requires sanitization and plastic is disposable.) The people serving behind the bar are helpful and accomodating but the female floor servers at night aren't even tactful about profiling customers for tips. The first floor had 2 servers that did not even ask if we needed anything after sitting at a table for 10 minutes and asking a larger party of 6 (more tips) seated near us what they would like to drink. One server then stood next two a table of two college aged guys showing her bracelets and flirting with them when she was obviously supposed to be training the girl shadowing her. It wasn't very busy in there either and I was very hungry so we went to another spot. Bottom line: buy drinks from the bar unless you want wait all night to be served at a table. Or try a different bar. The Stadium Sports Bar and Grill and Kitty O'Shea's are right around the corner, literally. read more

Been in here on a variety of occasions by chance and each time I've had a great experience. Pop in here for lunch once and again, food is good by bar food standards. Normally meet friends here after work on the occasional Friday as you can't beat the drink specials. Trivia is always a solid distraction. Look, Sissy's is what it is. No more, no less. Don't go in with higher expectations than you should, and you won't be disappointed. Weekend cover seems to be around $5. Live music and dive bar type atmosphere downstairs. Upstairs is loud top 40 DJ that is OK and dancing. Dance floor fills up closer to midnight. Definitely fun to start out downstairs for a few drinks and then meander upstairs. Be careful of bathrooms in the basement and mediocre service. Three stars because the general atmosphere is "fun". Go with reasonable expectations, and you should have fun. read more

Went here while visiting Boston for the weekend and we wanted a place to dance. The line outside this place on a Saturday night was ridiculous, considering it wasn't even very crowded outside. $10 cover also seemed a little excessive. Biggest complaints: strobe lights were blindingly bright and the DJ wasn't very good (played 5 seconds of a good song, switched to electronic music for 30 seconds, then played 5 seconds of another song, etc). Also why were the floors so sticky????? Clientele was somewhat aggressive. Despite all this we still had a good time dancing and it fulfilled the purpose we came for. read more

Lobster roll was very good, nice toast on the roll. Fries were crisp, overall decent lunch deal. Place definitely smells like a bar and the music was bad, but I'm basing this review on food and nice cold beer. This is a great place if you want to get hammered for not that much money. Mostly 25 and under crowd, it can fill up quickly. There are 2 levels with a DJ upstairs and live music downstairs. They also have cheap drafts of bud and bud light, $1 small and $1.50 for the large. Also during the week they put out free food for happy hour which is awesome, also the waitresses sometimes loose count of how many beers you had, which can work in your favor. Nothing like getting hammered with dinner for only 10 bucks On the downside, lost one star for dirty tap, you know what I mean. Also they "run out" of bud and bud light drafts every night about 9pm, which is about 1 hour after the cover starts and the line gets long, how convenient. read more

If you do not meet that criteria, I think that it is in your best interest to refrain from entering this establishment. It's loud, crowded, and it is impossible to have a conversation with anyone. Just had to write this review! Avoid ANY takeouts! My order included two entrees for takeout - baked scallops and shrimp. Guess what -both came without the sides that were promised. An honest mistake? Probably. And then I discovered that the beautifully described scallops on veggies had no veggies! So, I called up the restaurant. Hesitatingly, they offered to add the veggies to some salad that I had also paid for, after several rounds of explanations! The overall attitude of the person on the phone and the server (Anna) left me with no option than to wish them the best and let go of my incomplete order. This place is awesome. It's really crowded and I hate that the karaoke stops at 1:30 but overall a good time.

Great bar service, the bartenders were pleasant and helpful. The pretentious wait staff on other hand looked like they're in high school and were glazed-over like they've been sneaking shots in the back. Maybe they need it to endure such unprofessional management. We were sitting at a table when one of the tipsy waitresses attempted the impossible: stacking cups right in our faces without spilling. Full cup of salsa goes all over my white shirt, outfit, purse. She kindly brought me a stack of napkins but did not apologize or offer me anything. I asked another waitress if there was anything she could offer us, to which she rolled her eyes and walked away. I approached the manager, who was already aware of the situation but decided to stand around and not handle it. He responded with "She said she apologized. What do you want, a beer?" Sissy K: I'm sorry you had to put up with all that business on SantaCon, what a nuisance. Whether I'm dressed like Santa or like an underaged girl with my tits out, I'm a customer who deserved more than napkins thrown at me.
