Rolled into Sirene on a prix fixe dinner night. Fortunately, we were able to have a la carte options at the bar. Opted to try the morel Porridge, which was delightful. It had plenty of mushrooms and fresh green things. It was warm, comforting, well-balanced, and delicious. Had a tiny bite of my friend's Allium Tart. Really nice carmelization and a lovely presentation. Definitely try any cocktail with the strawberry amaro. Incredibly friendly staff. I will be back to try more things from the regular menu. BTW, the restaurant part of the place was hustling on a Monday night. Hope that keeps up. Recommended.

Just had an amazing Mother's Day dinner at Sirene last night. We had the best table outside (back and to the right, last table) for four, but could easily seat six if that's what you need. Their menu has changed since what is online - no more steelhead trout or mussels. I'm sorry that I didn't take a picture. For four, here is what we ordered: 6 Pacific Cocktail Oysters Smoked Fish Dip Roasted Asparagus Salad Cod with Morels and Asparagus (not on current online menu - delicious and I'd order again) Half Fried Chicken with All the Fixin's Rize Up Sourdough We had the BEST time and it was all super delicious. Our waitress was also kind in dealing with my (can be difficult in a Boomer way) dad. I'm sorry that I didn't take a picture of the fried chicken but the ones on Yelp are accurate. It was enough for us to share (two drumsticks and a wing and a thigh). The collards were SO good and vinegar-y which is how I like them. The standout for me was the asparagus salad. Run, do not walk.

Solid choice for an elevated dinner in the area. The manager David is so warm, kind, friendly, and generous. Our seafood etouffee was really delayed and he brought some house made dashi stock for us, sent an extra dessert (chocolate cake with buttermilk ice cream), and comped the dish. It was a 30+ min lag time but he and the male server were so gracious about it when we asked about it. Not sure what happened, perhaps our female server didn't put it the order right or they gave ours to another table. The drinks are good here and I love the house wine by the cm concept. House red wine was really delicious. My citrus house made soda was refreshing. The bread and butter were as good as I reviewed last time. The Dungeness crab salad was delightful and fresh with the Meyer lemon and melon balls. The chips with trout roe dip were okay. Probably wouldn't get that again. The etouffee was good when it came out and was served with some brown rice. The mixed seafood was fresh and delicious - especially the shrimp. Lemon custard is still amazing (tart snd just the right amount of sugar w citrus and the fish shaped cookie) and the chocolate cake they brought out was not too sweet. Buttermilk ice cream was very rich and flavorful. Really lovely setting for friends to get together and I saw lots of date nights and birthday celebrations. The unique soap scent in the bathroom which is a collaboration with scents by Nadia was also different and refreshing. Thanks David! We will be back!

Service - 3/5 Ambiance - 5/5 Food - 3/5 Came to Sirene for dinner and left feeling underwhelmed overall. Oysters were fine and exactly as expected. Sea scallop crudo was disappointing. I'm usually a big fan of yuzu, but the balance between the scallops, citrus, and bee pollen felt off and didn't quite work for me. Crudités with caviar ranch was not what I was expecting. The vegetables served with caviar mixed into the ranch felt underwhelming, and the dish missed the mark for me. Spiny lobster crudo was the standout of the meal -- great flavor with a nice level of spice. Fish and chips were tasty but ultimately forgettable. Overall, a few bright spots, but not enough to make the experience memorable or worth a return visit.

Amazing ambiance, service, and food! But something's are a miss... Sirene is honestly a gem of a restaurant. The restaurant is fairly large yet feels quite cozy in all areas. The design of the restaurant is also very tasteful. Everything from the front to back patio, even the bathroom is tasteful. The back patio was a highlight for me. Many restaurants treat the patio as an afterthought, but at Sirene. The patio feels like the main seating area. Very thoughtfully designed, soft lights, plants. And heaters spaced throughout the space. It's a very comfortable area. The appetizers we got were a 10/10! Get the chicory salad with squid, get the black trumpet porridge! Those two were the highlights by the whole table. But maybe don't get the fish and chips and don't get the fried chicken... Not sure what happened here but it just didn't work. The fried fish coating was very soft, not crispy, and the fried chicken lacked a rich flavor and juiciness. But overall it's an amazing place to go to. After this, I'm going to seek out their sister restaurant , The Morris in SF!

Fantastic latte and sublime cinnamon bun!

Sirene, dear Sirene, I am not worthy. Oh my goodness! This morning one of Oakland's finest galerists invited me to meet at Sirene for coffee and I feel so very fortunate. May I say, this is much more than a coffee shop, it's only one of the hottest new restaurants in the town. But oh my, coming here for coffee and a pastry is incredible. I can hardly imagine how wonderful dinner is. I had a fantastic latte and the cinnamon bun was absolutely sublime. From the richly flavored frosting to the elegant texture of the bun to the crust of sweet caramelization on the bottom. Magnificent! It was really an experience and a joy to eat it. I loved every single bite of that pastry. It's almost a fine dining version of your local coffee shop - it's really that good. I'm serious, the service is so kind and thoughtful. It is happy that human beings like this help you get your morning to such real lovely state. There is tons of seating. With lots of light upfront and less light but an incredibly warm environment in the back. There's a rear patio for sunnier and/or warmer days as well. What a discovery! Did I mention that I can't wait to come here for dinner?

They had me at the free to customer sparkling water spout :) What a cool place! I visited during their lunch hours. The counter staff were very welcoming and friendly. I ordered the chartreuse cappuccino and the farmers plate. Loved the chartreuse cappuccino! What an interesting and creative idea. The flavors work. Get a little anise kick at the finish. The farmers plate included pate de campagne made from pork, brillat savarin soft cheese, and mustard frill, which I've never had. It was actually somewhat sweet. I loved it! I'm so happy to have an option like this just a short bike ride away. It's very unique and a cut above. Definitely coming back for dinner!

Loved the ambiance in this place! The staff were super friendly and suggested a few of their specialties. Fried chicken and the chartreuse slushy were the stars of the night, I will come back for just those 2 items over and over again.

Really enjoyed our time here at Sirene - their outdoor eating area is homey and beautiful with how they decorated their courtyard area. I'll need to go back again to try their raw bar and crudo, as my wife was pregnant when we went and we needed to eat cooked food. I loved their early girl starter, which was the standout dish for me. Other items, like their shrimp chorizo fell a little flat. Other dishes, such as the abalone were delicious. Mussels were also a hit. The staff were super attentive and were great in making sure we had a great experience. Don't skip the buckwheat doughnuts - they were BOMB.

Been meaning to come here for a while and it was worth it, I'll be back. They seem to be busy every day of the week so I strongly recommend reservations. Though even with the crowd, it wasn't loud and the staff were attentive and available. They also do cafe hours and I plan to come work from here some time. The food is a bit pricey, but artfully put together and all fresh. The dumpling and the porridge were show stoppers for me, I'd absolutely come back for those. The spiny lobster crudo was also very good but I found the scallop crudo to be a tad basic.

    Steelhead trout

We had a great experience here last night! The service was excellent and the food was superb! The standout was the seared steelhead trout, easily one of the best fish dishes I've ever had. We eat out often and I order fish regularly, and this was next level. Perfectly cooked and incredibly flavorful. Absolutely delicious! The fried chicken was also fantastic, crispy outside, juicy and tender inside. We started with the smoked trout and chips, which tasted house-made and were so good. Cocktails were superb. Overall, a really lovely experience...so glad Oakland has this spot. We'll definitely be back regularly.

I genuinely expected more from this new restaurant in Oakland that has gotten some attention from the food press (notably Eater). Yelp reviews were uniformly positive (except for the typical "I'm angry at the bartender" diatribes). But, oddly enough, the meal just didn't work for me. I thought the appetizers were substantially better than the main courses (the shrimp sausage was wonderful). But all of those seafood appetizers were small considering the price - I understand that margins are thin, but I felt a bit ripped off by the very pricy uni with the tiny portions. Skip the dumplings - small, and while the combination of flavors is intriguing, nothing stands out. For my main, I went with the fried chicken, and those portions are substantial. But it's fried chicken... Service: wonderful. Ambiance: great. And while the seafood menu is fantastic, portions just felt too small.

We were able to get a last minute reservation at Sirene. Haven't eaten on Grand Avenue for dinner in awhile. The bread at Sirene was the best ever either salt on the crust. Omg. It's from Rize Up in SF. Had to refrain from eating more than one piece to save room for dinner. We shared the small portion of the fried chicken and picked a few sides and the mussels. The chicken was flavorful and loved the crunch of the skin. Mashed potatoes were a wonderful accompaniment. Orders the cheddar biscuits too but ended up taking it home. The mussels were a great addition to our meal in a wonderful broth. And the toasted bread with it was soooo good. So many things to try in Sirene but we limited ourselves to these items. Need to return and try more!!!

    Is sirene pet friendly?

    Yes. Well, dogs anyway.

Do they take reservations for brunch on Sat/Sun or is it just walk in/wait list?

It's just a standard, in-line cafe for this. Offerings are still small. Coffee and pastry rn. This may increase, but it's kinda bare bones.

Tallboy's martini menu is well-executed. While I didn't personally try one of the slushies, a friend ordered the espresso martini version and gave it a solid thumbs-up. Unfortunately, the experience falls apart when it comes to food and service. Waiting 30+ minutes for two hot dogs (after paying) is hard to justify. When I checked in with a server, she was curt and dismissive. She was quick to explain there was only one person in the kitchen, with no effort to offer a solution, timeline, or even basic courtesy. I understand staffing issues happen. However, customer service is a close second to concept. How an issue is communicated and addressed is what separates good service from bad. What's more frustrating is that these aren't customer problems to absorb. If the kitchen is understaffed, if tables aren't being cleared in a timely manner at a seat-yourself spot, those are management problems. Guests should not have to choose to leave without the food we paid for. There's a lot of competition out there, and concepts alone aren't enough to bring people back. I genuinely wanted that hot dog. That's probably the most disappointing part of the whole experience. Great drinks, solid ambiance, but the service needs serious attention.
