I had a glass of sangria while i painted my work and made friends with the person sitting next to me. I also photobombed other peoples pix. I bought this class in a Groupon but I really like it so Im willing to do it again soon. Can't wait!

He instructed easily and I learned good techniques. Even though the "class" is just for fun and not necessarily to learn, I go for the painting, and Rich gave a great class. We looked forward to paint nite again with him as the artist. I went a second time, again to Molly Spilanes. I love the venue and the area, and chose a different picture - red fall leaves or something. On the paint nite site, the artist should have been Rich again, but instead was Andrea. Maybe she is under pressure from college and whatnot, but her energy was negative. The group was fantastic and my painting came out OK, but there were lots of things I didn;t enjoy and will probably avoid a class if she is the instructor. However, I emailed paint nite because if this is common, booking with one artist and then arriving to find another artist instructing the class, I may avoid paint nite for a short while. The class started late. It should have been 7pm, but it started at 730pm~ish. Her tone just seemed harsh. Now, i am not all puppies and sunshine myself, but we're there to have fun. The instruction went OK, but we were towards the back and couldn't see that she had painted anything on a canvas to show us - she didn't point it out or hold it up, so we couldn't see above the rows ahead of us. We struggled with technique. I also noticed - she took liberty and changed her interpretation of the painting we chose online - she said she liked spring better than fall - but I hadn't realized until I went online at the paint nite and saw the painting was changed. I was wondering why it didn't look like what we signed up for. That's fine, because I still came home with a painting I did myself, but I would have liked to see the painting that we chose and then *I* could interperet it how *I* wanted since *I* was the one paying for the class. At the end, around 9pm, she started talking about how she knows who gives her bad reviews because she can remember our faces (this had to be in jest, but still - not cool), and that if we give her less than a 10 in our survey, she'll lose her 5 star rating. And she'll know who it was because if we come back again she'll remember. Ok. Then she pointed out the tip jar, and not to feel obligated but she does have student loans. Well, I do too! The way the class ended - her yelling about giving her a good rating and soliciting tips - made me realize it's important to know who will be the artist and to know ahead of time what to expect. I hope she does well on her finals because maybe she was stressed, but I do go for the painting. I would do this again in the future but in a different venue or borough. We based the decision for this specific paint nite on the venue, the artist, and the painting. and we only left 100% pleased with the venue.

We had a very disappointing experience working with Paint the Town from start to finish…read more The process began with billing issues, including receiving an incorrect invoice that reflected a higher amount than originally agreed upon. Even after that was corrected, we were sent multiple follow-up invoices as if payment had not been made. Leading up to the event, there were repeated requests for additional funds, along with communications suggesting the event would not be accommodated, despite confirmation of payment already being provided. To date, we are still awaiting a refund for the overpayment. Communication between the vendor and their teaching artists appeared to be extremely limited. As a result, the instructors arrived without all necessary materials and were not properly prepared for the scope of the event. There were not enough supplies for all participants, and the facilitators themselves expressed frustration due to the lack of information and coordination. Some even shared that they had scheduling conflicts due to last-minute changes and unclear expectations. Unfortunately, this lack of organization and communication impacted the overall flow of our Mother's Day event, which has historically been smooth and well-executed. This year, the experience felt disjointed and unnecessarily stressful. Additionally, the coordination between the vendor's main office and their East Coast teaching staff seemed disconnected, contributing further to the confusion. We often received duplicate or conflicting communication from multiple representatives, even after already providing responses. Overall, this was one of the most challenging vendor experiences we've had as an organization. We would not recommend Paint the Town based on this experience, nor will we be working with them again in the future.

So when the place is full or there's a lot of kids, it can be noisy. But it's too be expected. There's also a couple small dogs in the store. They keep to themselves. They had a decent selection of pottery to choose from. However, I think we wished there was a little more. We wanted to paint some of the marvel characters that we saw in a picture and also saw as a finished product on the shelf, but they were sold out. It's $8 to sit and then the price of the pottery on top of it. It's not cheap, but you're paying for the entertainment of it, the experience and memories, as well as, bringing home a one of a kind painted pottery. Additionally, there's a credit card fee if you pay with credit card. So I opted to pay in cash. Owners/staff are friendly. The staff offered suggestions on how to start painting (e.g. sketching out my design with a pencil first). But be patient, the owners have broken English. It didn't bother me, but I could see how it may be frustrating for others. Overall, we had a nice time at Mud Genius.

Sadly it was a frustrating experience and I am left wondering if it's this place only functions when the wife of the husband/wife team is at the helm. When she appeared she at least made an effort at customer friendliness. We went in on a weekday. I asked for an ice cream bowl. The husband's owner pointed to the shelves. I said I looked and could he help. He pointed to them again. No help. Sigh. I pick out a big item for my 8-year-old. We sit down. He proceeds to lecture my kid on using a big brush so he will finish faster. Is fast the goal here? It was overbearing and he didn't get any social cues to back off. More people come in -- a 5 and 8-year-old. He insists they sit together even though there's plenty of space because as he says: "this way I don't have to keep walking back and forth." It's a small shop people. Now we are crowded next to a 5-year-old who has ants in his pants and is ready to climb the walls. Relaxing it was not. Then there's the dog, which they keep in the store. I don't mind dogs, but some do. One such customer said her kid was afraid and could they put the dog away. He is put in the back only to keep coming back out or yap. Now we have to listen to the drama unfolding. But, I think the final straw, after enduring all this was that when I asked for a fine point brush because all the brushes out had bristles that were worn out I was informed customers ruined them so that's what they had. The message here: We can't have nice things and neither can you. I get kids are the main customers but it's an art shop and I KNOW brushes are not that expensive that you can't keep some aside for adults who are trying to do some more detailed work. So, no, it wasn't much fun, and it was sure as hell not relaxing. We won't be back.
