I've dealt with Singleton's in two capacities. Grocer and wholesaler. Both sides of the business get 5 solid gold stars. First, as a grocer. This place has it all. We always stop in for smoked bacon (smoked on the premises), a few pints of Ben and Jerry's, a bottle of wine or Champagne, some Cabot cheddar and cold cuts and of course, Singleton's famous beef jerky and root beer. Singleton's stocks a wide variety of food and LOTS of alcohol, so not only is it a one-stop kind of place, but it's a fun place to shop. We definitely never shop at the Shaw's in Ludlow anymore. I like that they have a lot of local and house-made items in the store. I always find a new product or food I have to try. The second part of this review has to do with using Singleton's as a wholesaler for my wedding. My husband and I wanted to use Singleton's beef jerky and homemade sodas as wedding favors. We called in advance and spoke with the owner, who was awesome. He helped us set up an order for jerky and assorted sodas, made sure everything was set for us the day of our wedding and was great to work with. We got an excellent price on the items and our guests were thrilled, because Singleton's stuff is quality. read more

I've been going to this store for years. It just keeps getting better and better. From fine wine (Firestone, Chateau Mouton Rothschild) to elk burgers, it can be found at Singleton's. Their butcher shop is first-rate. They have groceries, liquor and all manner of dry goods. They sell firearms and ammunition. They do private sale gun transfers. On my last buying spree, we bought some of their famous beef jerky, Quiche Lorraine, smoked bacon, eggs, VT cheddar cheese, buffalo steaks, Talisker single malt scotch, merlot and 12 gauge shotgun shells (My friend has a Vermont license). How diverse was that shopping basket? The staff is friendly. The meats are sourced locally and smoking is done on the premises. Besides, if you thought this place wasn't worth five stars, their store sign would surely put them over the top: Singleton's Whiskey Guns Ammo read more

This place is awesome! Mr. Singleton was there. Super friendly fellow. read more

Our group just got back from a weekend trip to Okemo, VT. Having been up there during the huge snow storm this past weekend we relied on Singletons for our survival, our meat, and our beer. Singleton's meat selection was great and we really enjoyed the fresh cut smoked bacon with our breakfast this morning. If you are heading up to Mt. Okemo for skiing I highly suggest stopping into Singleton's for basically everything you will need. "Whiskey, Guns, Ammo" read more

The store is good they got a lot of stuff but if you're worried about the coronavirus you do not want to shop there the people at the checkout wear the masks under their chin and the owner doesn't wear one at all!!!! Not a safe place to shop! read more

Live locally in Chester. Have gone to Singleton's for years when I'm in the area or in the summer when my tomatoes are ripe: Love their bacon for BLT's. Stopped in last week for just that. Friend & I ordered sandwiches to go while there. Cannot describe the really dirty area in front of meat counter. There are containers of snail shells sitting on a rack there that are so coated with grime, they were sticky to touch with visible "crud" on the lids. along other packaged food items there that are dirty...really dirty. That would be bad enough at any time, but, now with the "germ-alert" lifestyle of Covid, I'd think a cleaning crew might be a good idea... one that actually LOOKS @ what needs to be cleaned. Also... ordered a roast beef on rye. I believe it was $10.99 or $11.99 . The bread was so stale and dried out, it was inedible. The money spent for that sandwich was very upsetting. I am disappointed & turned off by the whole deli "experience". read more

Singleton store is not the family friendly store they make you think they are. One example is after 27 years they let a family friend and loyal employee go. They also let another long time older employee go. Letting older employees go to save a little smells alittle like age discrimination, maybe read more

Great quality meat/butcher and cheeses. Also a VT liquor store that sells guns and ammo, hence their tag line "whiskey, guns and ammo." Try their homemade beef jerky and variety of frozen foods too. If you need a some high end Vermont back woods style clothing, boots, a slingshot,or some kitchen staples they can supply all that at full price. Basically they can satisfy all your needs. read more

We were introduced to this place after a friend gave us a smoked pepperoni from Singleton's. WOW! Not only did I savor it for as long as possible, I made sure when we took a road trip up to VT., we made a stop. When we got there it seemed like nothing special. Just a local convenience market. Until we made it to the back of the store. Not only did they have the smoked pepperoni, we got their cured bacon, specialty hamburgers - bacon blue cheeses and jalapenos cheddar and hot italian sausages. Everything is vacuumed sealed and rock hard frozen. They also had a cheap cooler for the ride home. Staff is very friendly, knowledgable and helpful. If you appreciate smoke meats, be sure to stop by. FYI, only 11 miles south from Okemo Mountain. read more

We called for 3 trays of sandwiches thinking we'd have to wait for an hour or two for pick up...they said, "come on over, they'll be ready when you get here" (we were about 15-20 mins away). Not only did they make three huge trays of sandwiches in record time, they were FANTASTIC!! Total crowd pleaser, very well done - and we refrigerated leftovers and ate them later...just as tasty! read more

The sign says, "Whiskey, Guns and Ammo," but that is just the start of it. Also on the list is alcohol, meats, winter gear and anything you need for a wintery trip to Vermont. The smoked cheese they sell at the register is awesome. A great stop on my weekend tour in Vermont! read more

I gotta say, this place is pretty great. I'm in from out of town and was impressed with the offerings. Has the old school general store vibe. Had everything we wanted, nice prime ribeye, produce, eggs, wine (surprisingly good selection of ports), liquor. Worth the 30m drive from our Airbnb. read more

A need for liquor brought us to Singleton's. Wow, what an interesting store. It definitely had everything we needed, and then some. We went in for liquor and walked out with liquor, a growler of beer, a stick of salami, a couple bricks of cheese, eggs, and frozen pizzas from a pizza restaurant in town. We didn't happen to need outdoor gear or ammo, otherwise we would have walked out with that as well. The staff was very friendly and helpful. read more

We love Singleton's! I grew up on them! Best local meat around, best cheese, best locally made food! They also have everything you need for hunting, including a reporting station. I've since moved to Texas but got married in Vermont in September. We used Singletons for all of our meat and our beer. They have AMAZING, I mean best in the entire world, bacon we used for our brunch. We also got their smoked pepperoni for cocktail hour. The kegs were, hands down, the best deal around! They are super easy to work with. I talked to Dan and Allie almost every day leading up to our wedding. They are really helpful, flexible and easy to work with. I highly recommended singletons for any event but, mostly, for their absolutely badass meat! Oh, and did I mention, their slogan is Whiskey, guns, ammo? My heart! read more

Best place around. The staff is friendly and the smoked foods are amazing! Too bad they do not ship their meats.

The best butcher and meat counter in all of New England (maybe the North East).

Absolutely LOVE this business. Butcher shop is first rate. Work area behind butcher shop is as clean as can be. Great alcohol selection & clothing department, and groceries. Employees are exceptionally helpful. Great store. read more

Their smoked pepperoni is the BEST I have ever had, along with their bacon. The butcher is amazing with homemade sausages and game meats. They also have great selection of VT artisan cheeses and products (wine, jerky, groceries) . This is now a "must" when I travel to Vermont. They have a store in Quechee also! On left side of Route 4 when traveling toward Woodstock. read more
