Sausage Pie.

There are a lot of pizzeria's locally, but recalling fond memories of the original Singas Pizza location off Broadway in Elmhurst, Queens (sadly it closed a few years ago), I decided to give this Singas a try. It's nice to see they still have the buy two get one free deal, which was around back in my Queens' days. So obviously I ordered two pies: one mushroom, one sausage, and for the free pie I chose a plain (which for pizza taste testing standards offered up a nice control specimen LOL). While my taste buds have certainly advanced since my last Singas pizza, it was to my pleasant surprise how much it tasted like I remembered! The crust had a really crisp bite, more like a crunch really, which I recalled right at my first bite. I also noticed the flavor of the crust, particularly the bottom, with it's buttery (almost peanut oil like flavor). The cheese, sauce, and crust ratio was just as I recalled with the crust being the predominant component, followed by an equal proportion of sauce and cheese. The sauce's flavor was a balance between sweet and tangy, offering a solid, albeit commonplace taste. Cheese was like the sauce; solid and wholly familiar. In the same ilk as above, both the mushrooms and sausage were standard pizza fare, but still tasted good. The Italian sausage was particularly tasty with a hint of sweet and also spice. Yes Singas is not the best pizza around, but it's very solid, and offers (for me) a welcome factor of nostalgia.

pizza (pepperoni, sausage, plain) - good. Three pizzas around $13 (plain was free). Paper plate can be used to estimate pizza size.

I used to come here close to 10 years ago when it first opened. Back then I thought that the pizza was good and price was great. The pizza only come in one size. It's a small size compared to traditional pizzeria offerings - maybe 10 inches in diameter. Used to get 2 pizzas and get a free plain, and it would run around $11 for three pies. Today the deal remains, but prices around $1 more per pie. I was in the area yesterday and thought it'll be a good idea to try Singas again. We're glad we did. They only serve pizza, and it's as I remembered it. It's served hot, the crust is medium thickness and imparts a slight crunch. The sauce is neutral in flavor - not too sweet or too tangy, and the gooey cheese has a mild flavor that stays attached to the slice. What Singas gives you is a solid pizza, and good value. You can get a variety of pizza for around $6-$7 a pie. Each variety has a different price. The slices are a perfect size for kids. You don't have to cut it smaller. Now the negatives. This place is a dive. Plastic bags are covering the ceilings because of water damage. Some light fixtures are missing or cooked. Lots of wear and tear. If you just turned off the lights in this place, you'd think this place was abandoned, except there's a working pizza oven. My family just sat at the best booth away from the water damage. The tables were clean enough. It's cash only and there's a non working atm. The owner or employee was friendly. There are pizza condiments at the ordering counter. I wouldn't mind coming back for take out. My family likes Singas pizza.

It was definitely the star of the three types we had and came out delicious, cheesey and piping hot right out of the oven. Like most bar pies, it needs to be consumed right away as I don't think it travels over time well. The other two styles we had blended Indian flavors with a pizza medium. The nihari beef (weekends only) was a deliciously prepared shredded beef that comes with a stewed broth. First time having it and it was delicious! The butter chicken was heavy and filling but also super tasty. The woman at the counter was very informative and told us everything we needed to know about their pizzas. You're able to get any pizza in any style, offering you a different taste/variation on all their flavors. We'll dedinitely be back to try more and get another bar pie!

We ordered a four-section pie instead, and it was a great way to try a few different options. The Hot Boy pizza with hot honey was easily the standout, and the bottom right slice was also excellent. The darker meat slice on the bottom left was not my favorite. I did not enjoy it, but my partner did. Pizza was huge, and we had plenty left over. Next time, I'll make it earlier for the individual slices! Staff were nice. Environment was nice. Again, I came close to closing time but they were still taking plenty of orders!

Really, really good tavern pie, although I wouldn't necessarily call it a traditional tavern pizza…read more When I think tavern, I think crackery crust. That is not this. The caramelized ring of cheese around the edge is brilliant. The bottom was a hair undercooked and therefore a little limp but not too bad. One other reason for the limp is the very generous amount of cheese that solidifies into a shield atop the pizza. The sauce is a tad sweet but not too bad. I know I have nitpicked a bit here but it is still excellent pizza and worth a stop if you are in the area.

8/14/25 - Went to a pizza shop today that I have never tried. I am not sure how I never ate here…read moreconsidering that I've driven passed this place a thousand times taking Alex to and from dance class. TJ's Pizza and Catering is located in Parlin, NJ. I went in with the intention of ordering a large plain and a large Sicilian. But there's a sign on the wall that refers to this place as the home of the Tavern Pie. Tavern Pie? What in the world is that? Never saw that anywhere on Staten Island when I was growing up. But if that's your specialty, scratch off the Sicilian and add one Tavern Pie. The good: The plain pie was wonderful. It's the neopolitan style we all grew up eating. When I opened the box, the aroma immediately brought me back to Al's Pizza on Jewett Ave in Staten Island. I knew I was going to like it. And it didn't disappoint. The flavor of the sauce explodes in your mouth on the very first bite. The crust was pretty good too... crunchy and very little limpness. The cheese is very flavorful. And its real cheese with flavor.... not the cheap version. The foot traffic in this place is incredible. It took about 20 minutes to cook the pies and in that time, I easily saw 25 people coming in. The staff is super friendly kick-starting conversations about football with the majority of the people that came in. And to their credit, they knew everyone's names! In my mind, this definitely speaks to them having a loyal customer base. The bad: I was not a big fan of the Tavern Pie. As I am learning, Tavern Pie is a very thin crust pie cooked well. TJ's version isn't terrible, but it's not one that I'd run to buy again. The sauce wasn't as flavorful and all that cooking took the flavor out of the cheese. Not sure why it wasn't as flavorful overall if it's the same ingredients just cooked longer. Maybe this your thing? It's nice to try but its not for me. Overall Rating: C+ My score probably should have been a smidge higher but when I try your specialty and it's just average, you get points taken off.

They also have a pizzeria conveniently located right next door, which is a nice bonus. The service was outstanding--Alessandro was the best! He recommended his signature cocktail, the Orange Cosmopolitan, and all I can say is WOW. Perfectly made and dangerously good--they definitely sneak up on you! He checked in on us throughout the evening, always friendly and engaging, which truly elevated the experience. The food was just as impressive: Pollo Milanese - a perfectly cooked chicken cutlet topped with fresh mozzarella, arugula, cherry tomatoes, onions, shaved Parmesan, and a bright lemon vinaigrette. Pollo Carbonara - topped with prosciutto, spinach, peppers, and fontina cheese, served over penne pasta. Alaska Chicken (special) - stuffed chicken with shrimp, roasted tomatoes, spinach, and cheese in a rich cream sauce, served with saffron risotto. Absolutely delicious. For dessert, we shared a toasted almond cake and a caramel cheesecake cone--paired with cappuccinos, of course. The perfect ending to a great meal. It was a wonderful evening shared with wonderful people, made even better by Alessandro's exceptional service. Highly recommend this restaurant, and we will definitely be back to try more dishes!
