I have gotten a lot of my piercings here and I won't lie the more I go the more I feel like the vibe is off. Most of my piercings are fine, my helix is the only one that has given me trouble (to be expected) so the service itself is fine. For me the vibe is uncomfortable, I won't name names but there is a piercer who has made me uncomfortable and I have heard the same from other women. read more

I have been coming to Sin Cal for about fifteen years now. I remember when they first opened up in Riverbank! Since then I have followed them to their Modesto location. Jeremy has done a majority of my piercings and although he is not in the shop physically, his presence is still felt through his family and the employees working there. I think I speak for everyone when I say we can't way to see him in his shop again. Matt has done my last few piercings, most recently my Ashley. He was very gentle, friendly, and overall professional. He was focused on cleanliness and took his time making sure my piercing was symmetrical. Don't be deceived by the bald head and tattoos... dude was a total sweetheart and made me feel comfortable during my experiences. Shame on anyone who judges him. I think Jenn needs a special shout out too. I respect the hell out of this woman for keeping Sin Cal alive and being the definition of resilience for her family. She has helped me multiple times picking out jewelry and always gives good recommendations. Thank you being you, Jenn! Do not let these reviews convince you to go here. Not only was the experience unwelcoming and unprofessional, my piercing was completely botched. As I am signing the paperwork the girl helping me is talking crap about someone who had rescheduled a piercing change appointment at 4 which is when I got there and says they'd have to go first before me which I didn't mind. She continues to talk about how annoying and rude her 4o clock sounded over the phone as her 4o clock is right behind me waiting. After finishing the paper work she said the piercer will be out to check if I have the anatomy for my daith which is what I was getting. He comes to the lobby comes up to me no greeting or anything and says "There hasn't been any daith I couldn't pierce". After these two huge red flags I don't know why but I continue to go forward with the piercing. He takes me back and I am about to lay down and he says that he's going to do this while I'm sitting up. For context I have gotten 14 piercings before this I have never had to sit up for any of them except for my nose piercing all the rest are ears and a navel. I go through with the piercing and takes a very long time getting the piercing in and very painful. After on my way home I am in an extreme amount of pain I have never felt like any other piercing before and I've gotten an industrial before and was no where near as bad as this. For two days I was in extreme pain and not only that after a day the bottom part of the ball fell off, not to mention I was pierced with a CURVED BARBELL and it should be pierced with a horse shoe or something similar from my knowledge. I sadly had to go back and get the ball screwed back. I have so much regret not trusting my gut and completely disregarding all the red flags I witnessed within a few minutes of being there. It's been two months now and I just went to another piercer who tells me the piercing is pierced way too far inside my ear. I asked if they can change it to a horseshoe but they tell me because of how far the piercing is inside my ear it would be painful and would not fit well. I just end up taking the daith out because it has caused me nothing but pain. I really wanted to give this place the benefit of the doubt but I have nothing nice to say about this place and will never be returning. read more

this place is great! i went around 6pm on 12/23 and they helped us nicely! we got 3 piercings (3 people) and jen the owner pierced us!! she was amazing! super friendly and cracked jokes with us and it was just the easiest piercing i've gotten (nipples). she made sure we were all comfortable and i would say this is the best shop ive been too. i drove all the way from manteca and i would do it again! read more

I've gone to Sin Cal for 3 piercings now: Belly button, Helix, and Industrial. I tend to be really dramatic when it comes to piercings, and Matt has been incredibly patient with me every time. Every piercing that I've gotten there has healed amazingly, and I can even stop by for a check up whenever I want (no appt needed). Their prices are really fair, and I NEVER felt like I was being overcharged (if anything, I felt like I was paying too little). The vibe in there is super cool. I can't say enough good things about this place! We took my daughter here for her birthday back in March to get her ears pierced and they were AMAZING! We had a large group of family come with us, around 8 people including my two younger children, and they were incredibly accommodating! They were so kind and gentle with my girl that she literally shed zero tears, like smiled through him piercing her (see photo below lol). I've came to this place to get pierced three times, twice for my nose bc of issues I got my nose pierced and the jewelry wasn't going through my nose all the way so I had to go back to get it repierced no biggie. Then I got my belly done, I picked the bigger piece of jewelry bc last time I got a size smaller than I needed but the lady told me I should go with the smaller jewelry for my belly size which i shouldn't have because the size of the jewelry got imbedded into my piercing, my piercing was healing around the jewelry balls. I went to a different shop because I was under the impression I just needed a new piece of jewelry. I was told abt the jewelry along with the fact it wasn't done right, & the jewelry was imbedded. it got pierced it too high so now I have to wait for it to completely heal without the jewelry before going further. My piercing was highly infected and it only made it worse that the balls were imbedded in my skin. My piercer was Shawn he is super funny, and pretty comforting I have to admit I'm a lot to deal with lol. He did ask me if that is where I wanted it to be pierced after marking me and i said yes not knowing what's to high & what's to low. Besides the fact it was pierced high, I'm no expert but I don't think that was the cause I do believe if I would have gotten the right size jewelry the first time this wouldn't have happened and it would have began to heal correctly. read more

i am so upset because i really wanted to love this place, the jewelry itself is very pretty & theres much to choose from, but i left with probably one of the worst piercing job(s) i've ever had. i've gotten pierced and re-pierced at a multitude of places but this sadly takes the cake for one of the worst experiences--the jewelry used for my nose piercing was extremely short & i almost instinctively knew what was to come, and it really is my fault for not saying anything on the spot, because in a sea of 5 star reviews, theres a common problem within the 1-star reviews--which is failure to ensure that fresh nose piercings (especially) are followed up with the usage of a proper bar which accommodates for swelling. i don't know if this is done purposefully to have returning customers pay $20 for a jewelry swap or what, but i am so extremely disappointed, especially after the fact that our piercer seemed like a seasoned professional who took pride in his work--i really should've taken a hint when there was another walk-in besides my friends & i who came in saying that she was coming to get repierced at the same shop after her medusa rejected because of the same reason (improper jewelry). my nose jewelry is literally being eaten by my nose & i had to push it out at work before it fully embedded itself into my skin & i was left with a bloody mess. mind you, i wasn't shown any jewelry so i just went with a standard L-bar because i really was trying to get in & get out. so it really is sad that i cant even trust a professional piercer to install jewelry with proper care to the customer. not to mention, i also got my thirds done & when i had mentioned to my piercer that the markings he made on my right ear were too far out from my seconds & disproportionate to the marking on my left, he measured it out on a q-tip and told me it was fine, just to agree with me that the piercing was made too far out after the piercing was done. yes, he redid it, but the second try was eyeballed and is still off. lol. a second piercing that wont stop bleeding !! also, wasn't sanitary compared to the standard despite the sloppy use of alcohol. every moment in which my piercer used his charisma to build trust was shattered within 1-2 days of seeing my results. i really did feel like i was in good hands with the way he shared other customer stories & saying that he's constantly fixing "piercing horror stories" from local shops such as no limit & emerald, that have yielded much better results in my personal experience. yiikesss, but yeah, the only reason i'd ever recommend this place is probably for its jewelry, but only if you already have the piercing. and if its healed. read more

Justin was very attentive to want I wanted, and added his creative input when I asked for it. I had the pleasure of working with Levi for the start of a tattoo I have been waiting to get for over 10 years. After showing him a few examples he diligently worked to come up with a custom design that we both agreed on. I was really happy he was able to get me in and out that same day. I think we spent an hour on design then two hours doing actual tattoo work. Levi uses a rotary machine which is my favourite type of machine to get ink done with. The really cool part: Levi let me keep a copy of his artwork of the design he tattooed. Clean shop, reasonable prices & kind staff. If I'm back in the Modesto area and need a tattoo, I'll definitely consider Levi for the job. read more

Honestly I rate this place at 0 stars. I went in to get a chest dermal. I've had one before so was very familiar with the whole process and how uncomfortable it is. I forgot the persons name who did the dermal piercing but he was literally training someone on me. So the new trainee or apprentice whatever he was, did the piercing on me and did a horrible job when using the hollow needle. The professional had to come and dig more into my skin, it was over 4 minutes of him poking the needle through and then he went to put the surface piercing in and it felt like he did not put it in deep enough at ALL. It even looked like it was falling out. I got so many comments on how weird it looked that I myself just ripped it out 2 months later. My body has never rejected a dermal piercing and it was no rejecting moments after he put it in. He did a horrible job along with the person who he was training. It was a painful and horrible experience and still had to pay for it all. I would NOT recommend this place to even my worst enemy. read more

My sister and I got our double nostrils pierced here. Very reasonable pricing and it includes the basic jewelry. I believe our piercer was Brandon. Knowledgeable and informative throughout the whole process. He was nice and let us know when he hit scar tissue so we could be prepared for the pain. We were in and out in less than 30 mins. When we walked in we were welcomed immediately by another guy who was just as nice!!!! All of them were super down to earth, super honest and just really made you feel comfortable.
