This is the most amazing pub in the world, unless it's just when we visit!…read moreOn our first ever visit ti Islay, we were staying in a boarding house very close to the pub so we had to try it out. On entering we found a local guy singing Elvis songs to the jukebox with a broom in his hands as a mike stand! We thought the usual - Here's a drunk!, but, no. He asked us very nicely if we had any requests and proceeded to play, and sing, them. After a few drinks it was our turn to request, and sing! By the end of the night, a singing group, booked to play in the nearby hotel had found they had no audience and come into the Ardview to join in! The selection of drinks was excellent considering the problems of getting stocks (apart from malt whiskies, of course!) and we were accepted as part of the family within a very short time. The next day, locals were stopping to talk in the street and say how much they'd enjoyed the night - yet it was down to them! Magical!

Three very young waitresses, poor listening skills, busy chatting with each other. They did get busy when a middle aged man showed up (owner?) ;-) Food ordered: fish and chips came with side salad. Chips arrived lukewarm and limp; fish ok; tartar sauce lacking any personality as did the side salad. Perhaps: come for the music not the food or service.

The picture I posted is of the Fanad Head Lighthouse which is just a few hundred yards down the hill and from which the pub gets it's name. The scenery in the surrounding peninsula is stunning and the local people will make you feel very much at home. If you go to Ireland then you should not miss out on visiting this gem.
