When I went to pay they did not offer the discount. I told the cashier I'm in the plumbers union and he asked for proof of union card. My husband was behind me in line and when the cashier rang him up he said "you're in a union, right?" and offered the discount. My husband is a non union electrician so he declined the discount. The cashier didn't know we were together. I was so excited to shop here but can't help but feel discriminated against because I'm a woman. Bummer.

When it comes to uniform basics like navy or khaki pants/jumpers and white, collared shirts, you may be able to find what you need for less at Old Navy or Target, but Ruth's is indispensable for such specifics as patterned jumpers and blue or red sweaters, which can be in particular or hard-to-find shades depending on what your school requires. Speaking of Ruth's sweaters, I'm a big fan. They don't pill and they come out of the washing machine already almost dry. No need to put in the dryer, so they last and last and look like new for a long time. The jumpers also dry lightning-quick...which means you don't have to buy that many because you can wash mid-week and hang to dry. Busy parents on a budget love clothes that air-dry overnight! It's also worth mentioning that Ruth's Children Shoppe gives back to the city's public schools. It feels good to patronize a business that cares about its community.
