I really wanted to give this business a phenomenal review, but after taking time to reflect on my experience, I unfortunately cannot. My 3 star explanation follows: 1st Star - the owner Scott Garrett comes out to give you an estimate. He is personable and does a thorough job. The estimate is also itemized, so you can see exactly what you are being charged for. This felt much more honest than having an arbitrary number handed to you. 2nd Star - we have spent approximately 40K on landscaping with Garrett over the last few years and most of the work has been stellar. In July 2019 we had a major project done to our driveway where it was extended approximately 5.5 feet on both sides with brick pavers. We have a large driveway and the job turned out fantastic. They also offer a lifetime warranty on the brick work for as long as we own our home. They stand by their brick work and that says a lot. 3rd Star - the crews sent were great. They were professional, worked diligently from 8 am - 5 pm, cleaned up every day, and did a wonderful job. No loud music, no littering, no sloppiness etc. Very respectful and hard working. Why I removed 2 Stars: 1st Star Removed - the large driveway project literally started an entire year after it was supposed to. It went from starting in July 2018 to being pushed back until July 2019. Garrett initially ordered different brick pavers from a company other than the one my husband and I signed off on. It was not an issue to get the original / correct pavers, but it pushed the job back. Other factors- not on our part, also kept pushing the job. We were patient and understanding, however it was an inconvenience (trips postponed, multiple parties scheduled around when the job was supposed to be completed but hadn't even begun, etc). 2nd Star Removed - the large driveway project took longer than what they estimated and as a result a smaller job that was part of the bill was completed in a sub par manner. We were supposed to have a "decorative boulder wall" created near one corner of our house, and what we received was not my idea of a boulder wall. We received approximately 10 rocks, sized 12" tall X 12-15" wide, set down around an already cleaned, existing bed, with mulch tossed on top. We were charged $1495 for something that truthfully, I could have done myself in an hours time (I already had the bed weeded, cleaned and prepped). I feel that since the main driveway project went over the time they estimated it would take, the "decorative boulder wall" was disregarded and we were shortchanged on it. It was such an upsetting way to end the working relationship I thought I had cultivated with Garrett. In the end, I feel that being patient and understanding didn't fare well and that being firm and more assertive would have yielded better results.

Ecologically nasty and interpersonally.... I'm still shocked.

My experience has ranged from a single guy with ropes and a chainsaw, to a dozen men with heavy equipment deployed by a general-like figure barking orders and managing the job. The one redeeming part of my experience with The Lumberjacks was that they were able to get my large dead tree removed relatively quickly in the midst of a global pandemic. Originally it was going to take several weeks for them to arrive. But when I asked if there was any way to expedite the process, I was told "yes" if I was willing to pay a rush charge of $50. On a job that was going to cost over a grand, that was the bargain of the decade. The Lumberjacks brought a three person crew along with a lift that looked a little bit like a tank. We walked around the property to talk about other work I wanted done beyond the tree removal, and was quoted a price on the spot. I agreed, and the crew spent the rest of the day cutting wood. After they were done, I asked to be walked around to inspect the work. What I didn't see at the time was the damage that was caused to my property. I spoke to someone at my insurance company. They told me to call the tree trimmers. After calling The Lumberjacks to discuss the matter, I was unceremoniously directed to some fine print on the bottom of the estimate that said the company was not responsible for damages, or some such. Well, that just sucks. Now, by solving the problem of the dead tree, I have another problem to solve. And we're still in the midst of a global pandemic, which just makes everything harder. This was not the kind of experience that would encourage me to call The Lumberjacks again if I need additional tree work, nor would it give me the confidence to recommend them to others. I'm sure they work on lots of houses without doing damage. I'm sure mine was a rare fluke. And ultimately, it's less about the damage itself than it was about how this unfortunate situation was handled.

There are multiple bullet points that I would like to make positive reference of with this experience all of which I believe unfortunately are in short supply in this day in age. 1 it appears to be an the owner operated company and the owner is Hands-On which is respectable 2 they answered the phone on the weekend and it was not a voicemail or call center it was a human being 3 they were honest in saying they they could fit me in as soon as possible and showed up to the job promptly and on time which is a frequent issue with snow plow companies. 4 they were extremely fair priced for a large area of snow. It was done quickly and when they were done plowing the individual even asked does this meet your satisfaction. That alone is a high point in my book. 5 his snowplow was in good condition with the driveway having been recently redone the owner was worried about damage but his equipment was in good condition and had the screw in guides on the bottom of the blade which most plows do not which insured zero damage to the property. After the job was done I also learned from him that he is actually the owner and works on the weekends. This owner showed great pride in his workmanship and Company. Most owners don't work on the weekends this day in age. I will definitely utilize him on more job sites and refer him whenever possible. I am curious to see if the same professionalism and workmanship carries over to the sealcoating side of the business. I would say at least give them a shot you can't go wrong with the fair and economical pricing.

When…read morewe initially spoke we did a full walk through of what we needed to happen, to include cleaning up the front yard with sod and seed, grading it, removing shrubs, ivy, and a dead tree stump. About a day later he sent a quote which did not include everything we discussed. I chocked it up to him being extremely busy. He sent over a new quote that included the additional items he forgot about. We got on their schedule and when they came by they worked very hard late into the evenings. Unfortunately both mornings when they showed up to work is was very early (7:15am and 6:30am respectively)..in both instances neighbors complained to us about the noise and heavy machinery/leaf blowers that early in the morning. Once all of the work was "done", Nick did not follow up to do a walk through of the job site to verify everything was completed, he merely sent an automated invoice. I sent him a note back highlighting items that were not completed fully, or not at all. Even though they were listed in the original quote sent to me and discussed with Nick on multiple occasions, to include the day the work started, Nick insisted everything had been completed. His reply is probably what was more upsetting and unprofessional than the work itself. He was rude, passive aggressive, and not interested in ensuring a quality job was done. The ivy was removed, but the roots remained. His excuse was that the quote did not include "moving dirt" to remove the ivy. Anyone that has ever tried to remove ivy knows if the roots stay, the ivy stays. Nick stated I would have had to pay extra to remove roots, even though many of the over 20 roots visible above ground were 1/4" thick and at least a foot long. They also used heavy machinery to grade the yard. The areas where the tractor was located have now been destroyed and need grading and sod themselves. Nick was not interested in fixing this either -- he blamed it on the area being saturated by rain. I have other complaints with Nick and the work, but none of them were directly discussed with him as they are mostly minor. As such, I don't think it's fair to him to bring it up here. I have since severed ties with his company and cannot in good faith recommend Nick or his services to anyone. I truly wish I did not have to write this review, but believe it is in the best interest of potential customers to know the risks associated with using this company for their own homes.
