Timing is Everything!!!…read more I just happened to stop in at the Chop Shop in Downtown Butler, PA, during a recent Heatwave. As my luck would have it, I quickly discovered that this restaurant does not have air conditioning. I'm not sure if it was just offline or if it is permanent; however, be warned!! The restaurant had children and elderly people seated, so I couldn't wimp out and go somewhere else. The Chop SHop is a downtown Butler must-try, and it is three concepts rolled into one. The Chop Shop is a vintage-style eatery serving sandwiches, milkshakes, burgers, vegetarian fare and grilled meats. I ordered their specialty milkshake, which is a loaded milkshake that comes with everything thrown into one Milkshake. Although it was a perfect drink for a heatwave, my milkshake quickly melted due to the heat in the restaurant. For the main course, I ordered the Mixed Grill, which had grilled elk tenderloin, smoked quail, caramelized bacon brussels sprouts, dauphinoise potatoes and a blackberry brandy demi-glaze. The food was awesome, and those potatoes were crazy-good. The Elk was cooked to medium as I ordered, and the quail was tender and juicy. Overall, a good but hot dining experience. The Chop Shop has great food, great service, and one day may serve alcohol in the restaurant, but for now, their food and drinks can be enjoyed without it.

I came here with a large party for a recent family reunion, and everything was only just okay. Our standout impression was our server - she handled us all single-handedly and ensured we all had everything we needed. She was phenomenal. Unfortunately, the food is just fine and the interior isn't very interesting at all. Dirty, dingy, outdated. I ordered their French Sandwich, which was interesting. The dressing they used, which I asked on the side to dip my fries in, was the most exciting part. Tangy, garlicky, slightly spicy (not really) contrary to my uncle's spice tolerance. Everyone else's food looked passable, but nobody pointed out anything they particularly enjoyed. A warning, their large salads are HUGE - think the size of the salad bowl they give you at Olive Garden. The bread they give is plain, with butter in single-serve containers. Not much to write home about, am I missing something?

I used HSWT as my wedding caterer in Fall 2008. They did a really great job, the jerk chicken was delicious (as was the brisket), the tossed salad was made with really nice greens instead of the all-too-common iceberg lettuce, and they made a special grilled-vegetable entree for my vegetarian friends (which came out so deliciously wonderful that I didn't even get to taste any of it!) They also put together a "care package" for me and my husband, so we got to enjoy a cooking-free week of newlywed bliss. Finally, they are great in a crisis. The week before my wedding, the chef had an accident and was hurt too badly to cater the wedding. (Fortunately, he has recovered and is doing fine.) This could have been a nightmare situation for everyone, but even though Andy was hurt and probably had better things to worry about, he lined up a really great substitute chef, and I didn't even realize anything was amiss until after dinner!
